I have a bumper sticker that reads:

"My Old English Sheepdog is smarter than your honor student"

I can't speak for all OES or even all honor students, but based on everything I've seen from both groups, I believe this to be true.

Now I know why Guinness is so smart ......he hangs with Labs and GermanShepherds. So , in fact, it does matter who your kids hang with 8O
My favorite part is the last line:

And sometimes the dim-wits make better pets. While a smart dog will figure out everything you want it to know, your super pet will also learn everything it can get away with, Coren warns.

Ain't that the truth!
I KNOW our Border Collie is smarter than WE are !!!! :lmt:
And it is incredible how her brain works!! And what she does before you even ask her!!! 6th sense!
Love her, Love her!!

Hi, Lynn. I've found them at bigger dog show - the ones that draw lots of spectators/vendors especially. But you don't know for sure that someone will have it till you start browsing, so it's pretty hit & miss.

I googled it and this site carries it - there are probably others: http://www.dogstuff.com/smarteroldengli ... 16765.html

You can also get the same saying on a licence plate frame. '

Every time I read it I start to giggle. I was disturbed to see that it wasn't reserved for just OES - you can get it for any number of breeds. 8O Tsk, tsk

Well, after that news broke about intelligence of dogs, I went in search to see where OES ranks. Cause Winnie is by far the smartest dog (albeit challenging, too) I've ever had - and I've had a lot of dogs!

To my dismay  those who rank canine intelligence peg my beloved Winnie a dismal 63rd out of 79 breeds. :x

Say it ain't so!

Intelligence and trainability/biddability are not necessarily the same thing

The border collie, as an example, is an easily trained dog in many ways. Most pop out asking "what can I do for you?" An OES is born with one burning question: "What can I get you to do for me?"

Translation: You train the BC, the OES trains you. Which is smarter?

Not only do they think "What can you do for me?" --but then they figure out how to work together to get what they want from you. 8O

Just wait till/if you end up with a pack of the critters...

:D Willoughby is very pleased with the news release! The cats, as usual are critical and have been whispering together as a result! 8O

I know Willoughby can count as he knows how many biscuits he's suppoed to have and when! 8) He also knows where the A& W is where we stop on our routine trips to see Merlin or when driving to the Coast.

On the long drives, he'll be asleep on the back seat and when we're approaching the Exit to the A&W, his head pops up in the mirror and he starts looking to make sure we don't miss it. He usually get 8-10 french fries!
