Does anyone Cross Stitch

One of my projects for fall is a Xmas Tree Skirt. It is all breeds of puppies
with hats on and Xmas decorations on it.
I have never done cross stich and just looking at it makes me want to
return it. I do tons of needle work but this (NEVER)

Does it look worse than it is?

all that counting.............

The worst part is finding the proper starting position. After that you just move from color to color through a section.

Fold the instruction sheet into smaller portions or rig a "frame" and just work the area within the frame. Looking at the overall project is overwhelming. Divide and conquer.
Counting cross stitch is incredibly easy. My mother taught me how to do it at 4 years of age. You'll do just fine.
I love cross stitching. Haven't done it in over a year as I have been so busy. This is the last one that I did and it looks exquisite with all the detail in it. http://www.dimensions-craft.com/product ... oduct=3180 It isn't hard. Depending on how detailed the pattern is you can finish it relatively fast to it taking you much longer.

For the one that I did above it took me about a year. That was with me working on it for hours every day, just lightly some weeks, to not working on it all for some months after getting burnt out on it. I tend to swing back and forth like that through out a cross stitch project.
I'd suggest a selection of colored pencils. Assign each color thread to a color pencil and as you finish that section, color it in. I always make a copy of my patterns and do this. It helps to keep track of what you've done and where to go next.

Best of luck. Lots of work but it will be an heirloom piece when done.
Yep I do it lots.
I'm currently working on a big picture of a unicorn with all the background stitched in. I find it relaxing.
You definitely want to cross off each stitch on the pattern as you do it. I take copies of the pattern and work off the copy in case I ever want to use the pattern again.
My advice is to give yourself plenty of time so you can relax and enjoy the process. :)
I plan on useing the tree skirt next Xmas. That should be enough time. Great idea to copy it. I will about 10 times lol.

this is the skirt
Don't put the stress on yourself that this must be ready for Christmas 2009. I did that with an embroidery project and got to where it was no longer enjoyable.

Work on it as you have the time to sit and enjoy it. Don't force it.
Sheepieboss,
I said that wrong. I ment 2010 xmas
thats well over a year.
That tree skirt is so cute. Good luck and can't wait to see pics of it in use. In 2010, of course!
Oh I love that!!!!
If I lived over there I would stitch it for you in a flash.
Good luck, it will be beautiful.
Just remember take your time and enjoy the process of creation.
I agree with the colored pencils suggestion. I find the hardest part of cross-stitching is just getting everything set up . . . after that it is really fun.
