That is so sad
Rats.

The disease that cost Sam's life is truly horrible. Attended an arboriculture meeting where this was discussed......loss of tree species that is their food.
I can't even read it. I know it will tear me up. I'm the one who can't watch a disney movie, cuz when the animals die, I'm a basket case.

And still...I'm really sorry for the little one.
All of Australia is in mourning for Sam. Such a tragedy she survived the black saturday fires, healed from the horrific burns and smoke inhalation only for the disease that afflicts 50% of the population of Koalas here to claim her.

They suspected it, ultrasounded her & operated on her 2 days ago for exploratory surgery to see how affected she was and no good Cysts found on the liver etc so they had to let her go. If left they die a terrible long painfull death.

Not only did she bring to Australia hope after the devastating fires but now she also brings to the world as a martyr the plight of Chlaymydia in Koalas. They are about 5 years off a vaccine to help Koalas here in Australia. Most carry this but stress like loss of habitat can bring it on full blown and is a curse of our Koalas, so hopefully they can find that vaccine earlier to help our special unique Koala bears.

Sam in her honour is being preserved and will be given to Melbourne Museum and go on display to remind everyone in years to come that this very special Koala brought hope to all out of the sadness and despair after that awfull black saturday that not only claimed many lives, properties but many of thousands of native animals as well.

Because of sam wild life shelters have been blessed with money/donations to continue on there good work and ongoing care for those native animals still recovering. Sams photo with the CFA fireman captured the plight with donations coming in not only here but from around the world for the care and rehabilitation ongoing for all the native animals caught up on that fatefull day. She may be gone now but her legacy she has left behind will live on for a long time still helping her other furry friends and she did bring joy/hope out of sadness to all that experienced that Black Saturday to think she survived all that, a fire storm, rescue, healed well for this to take her in the end, she was so very special :(

Sam you will be greatly missed and only about 3 too young after all you have been through to leave so soon. :(

Yesterday was 6 months since the firestorms hit :(
So small, so young to have made such a giant impact and help so many. Way to go, Sam.............Rest well.
