Maxwell Silver Hammer Golightly XVI RIP

Our mighty mighty Max, developed a fast moving, aggressive form of bone cancer and was released to the Rainbow Bridge on Wednesday August 5 2009.
We are devastated. The river of tears will not stop.
Max was our strong boy...except for his initial puppy visit, Max never went to the Vet for anything. I was told by our vet on Max's first visit that although he'd seen a lot of Old English Sheepdogs, Max was the epitome of the breed. Everyone that knew Max, knows how much he lived to chase and return the soccer ball...it was his job and we did it every night of his life that it was not raining...and even some nights when it was.
A few weeks ago, I thought he had pulled a muscle chasing the ball...he'd done this occasionally throughout his life and after a few days, he was back at his job...only this time, he didn't heal...a xray showed the cancer had taken hold of his right front leg bone and had moved quickly to his lungs.
If you knew Max, you loved him...and he loved you. Our other OES Stella, has the brains and she could out smart him in a instant. When we gave them Milk Bones, Stella would go into another room and bark...Max would drop his bone and come see what she was barking at, while Stella went and stole his Milk Bone.We called Max our "big dumb goof"...but his heart was the size of a Buick.
So if we are out of sorts, please forgive us...we are adjusting to a awful large hole left in our hearts left by the passing of the greatest Old English Sheepdog there ever was...Maxwell Silver Hammer Golightly XVI.
He was my buddy.

Even if he wasnt the cleverst Sheepie, he was the loveliest and I'm sure you agree with me! Think about the great time you had with him, he gave you joy and happiness!

All our condolence to you and your family! :ghug: :ghug: :ghug: :ghug:

So sorry! :(
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your wonderful Maz. My heart goes out to you during your time of grief.

Tears,
Bless your Maxwell and my heart goes out to you all at this sad time.

So hard when our babies have to leave us, give stella a belly rub and cuddle from us, she will miss her best buddy as you will too.

Memories flow he will always be with you all. :(
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. We will be thinking of you and Maxwell :(
I am sure there was a soccer ball waiting for Max in heaven. He sounded like a wonderful sheepdog. Please accept my condolences on your loss.

:ghug:
I'm so sorry for your loss. These Sheepies make it so easy to love but oh so hard to lose.
:ghug:
So sorry for your loss.
We are so sadden by your loss :ghug:
I am so sorry you lost your boy, I am sure you gave him years of love, and I hope the happy memories come back soon. RIP
Thank you all. It has not even been 24 hours and the hole in my heart is big and it hurts.
God bless my vet for coming to my house and releasing Max on our deck. The backyard was his kingdom. I have a half acre and he ruled it.
The pain he was in yesterday morning was unbearable. Max was a big boy and never whined about anything...but yesterday morning he was literally screaming...we were going to to wait until after my vet closed but I called him and he rushed right over...releasing him from such pain is the one thing that makes this fathomable in our minds.
We did let Stella come sniff him after he passed...she then laid down next to him....and this morning she is looking for him. She has diabetes and we really thought she would be the first to go...so the shock of losing my big strong boy is unbelievable.
I only hope that my sweet Stella does not give up.
I need her to be the world's oldest living diabetic Old English Sheepdog.
Ah, poor Max to be in that pain. Bless your vet for coming out.

:ghug: :ghug: to both you and Stella. It is indeed a big hole in the heart.
Thank you for helping Max when he needed you most, and I'm so very sorry for your loss. :(
So sorry for your loss. :ghug:
Your vet was an angel.
 The tears will not stop falling  I am so so sorry for your loss.

Run free big boy, go find Dolly

Memphis Blue,

In spite of the pain it has caused you, you gave Maxwell the greatest and most loving gift possible at that time of his life. He doesn't hurt any more and rest well assured he is playing with both a soccer ball and all our beloved children who patiently await us at the Rainbow Bridge. He is watching over you - you will feel his loving presence for the rest of your life and before too long it will be a great comfort to you.
My beloved Punk didn't suffer in the same way but he needed help to go to the Rainbow Bridge and it was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life, and yet it was the best thing I could do for him at the time. And now it is almost exclusively the good times we had that I remember - even when I remember his passing it is his release from pain and weakness that I can appreciate more than ever.

You will always treasure your time with Maxwell and eventually you will be able to limit the memories of his passing and cherish the best of times you had with him.

Our love and thoughts are with you.

Carl
I am so sorry for your loss. You and Max will meet again.
He was a wonderful sheepdog, I can hear it in your words. The best you could do for your friend was to release him from the pain. He will always be in your heart.
Big Max would have been 11 years old today...we miss him so much.

Happy birthday pal.[/img]
hugs for you, remember the good times..xxx
Hugs and kisses from Gigi and Bogey.
So sorry for the loss of your beloved Maxwell. He will be waiting patiently with all of our sheepie babies until we go to collect them at the Rainbow Bridge. :ghug: Hugs to you, yours and Stella.
Max sounds like he was an incredible friend. I'm so very sorry for your loss.
Well pal...we got through yesterday but it was really hard...but when we think of all of the pain you were in, it makes it a little easier to remember letting you go a year ago. We have laughed a lot over the last year...thinking of all the goofy things you used to do.
We've rescued a lovely little lady named Candy...you would love her! She is smart enough to defer to Stella on most things. Stella is getting worse every day but we hope she is with us a lot longer.

So pal...we love and miss you every day and would give anything for one more day with you.

Love
Mom,Dad and Stella
Sorry for your loss. We will keep MAx and you in our prayers.
I am so sorry for your lost, my heart goes up to you and your family

:ghug: :ghug: :ghug:
I re-read your first post, and I bawled all over again. I'm so sorry for your loss. Time helps the sting go away, but never the ache. I still cry for my Mojo who passed on 8 years ago. I think it's the final mark of a great dog, that you're never able to get over him/her. Some people have pets, others have furry kids- loving their pet like a true member of the family. And I think we're blessed immensely when we open our hearts to embrace a furry kid.

Lots of love as your continue to grieve and remember your mighty Max.
