Koombaya - with the Dog Scouts!

yes...dear forum friends, Heart and I are going camping for 3 days, 2 nights((( :twitch: )) with the Dog Scouts!

For someone who has NEVER camped EVER..this will be an experience~~~~not sure whether good or bad, only time will tell.

With a little nudge from a friend, "Heart" :hearts: will be trying to get her BackPacking Badge..which means a 1 mile hike...a 2 mile hike...and a 3 mile hike with her wearing her backpack with all her stuff in it.
(((I THINK I have to walk too...not really sure if I can just send her off and wait for her at the end with a cosmo in my hand)))!!!

In addition, "Heart" :hearts: will be trying for her Camping Badge...Which means, among other things...'MOM' has to tinkle in the woods, start a fire with one match, hike all the 'equipment' to the campsite..etc..etc..etc...
((I really don't know what Heart does for this except sit there and laugh at her mom acting like a fool)))

so ...please wish me luck!!!! and ask fondly about me when I don't come back,)))))))) cuz I got lost in the woods or a bear ate me.((((((((

Having younger friends don't keep you young....I find I am just aging much faster!!!!!~~~.....

sounds like a blast - just one question.....

Is the camping badge shaped like a mosquito?

:D :D :D :D

Have fun!!
Val - you will do fine. I wish I could be there - it sounds like a ton of fun!!!
ah if I was a few years younger I would be asking if Dutch and I could go with you  Have a great time and we know Heart :hearts: will pass all with flying colours
Have tons of fun.. My Boys love camping!!! Make sure you bring an air mattress big enough for you and Heart.. or you just might find yourself sleeping on the ground.
Isn't there a Holiday Inn Badge????? :twitch:

GOSHHHHHHH!!!!! I REALLY wished there was one!!!!! I'd be down in a second...I think I would get 6 of them just to fill her vest and be done with it!!!!!!! :D :D :D
This sounds like so much fun! :D

When I saw the title on this post, I could clearly picture Heart :hearts: and her dog-friends all howling around the campfire! 8)

I did feel like we seem to be doing more than the dog for this particular badge. :lmt:

Yes I am sure that there are lots of Bears in this park.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Hey...what the heck do I know????? Lions..Tigers............or Bears.....ohmy~~~~~~~~
Hey, you can make s'mores round the campfire. That should make you feel better. Have fun, and we expect pics!
oh val oh val you are a trooper take pics
Eat a low residue diet before......peeing is easy, it's the other part that is more difficult.

Heart :hearts: will have a blast.............
So are you saying you can't just camp in your backyard?????
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

There will be NO other part !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Val you are too funny, you will have the best time. Bring bug spray
ROTFLMAO!!!! You have the same potty issues I have. Brings wipes and a camping potty to put in your tent for privacy. I am still voting for the Holiday Inn badge!
ROFL Who sets up the showers and makes sure there's hot water???

Being the intrepid traveller that I am,  I'm for the Holiday Inn Badge too.

T'was my first thought as well.

Judi mumbled something about dragging Val & Heart camping this coming weekend, but no mention of Dog Scouts, badges or NO ACCESS TO CIVILIZED PLUMBING. Yegads!

Ladies, we sometimes (OK, very rarely, but...) camp at trials. The last time I did so was in Iowa. Of course, a friend had her camper with hook-ups and TV. Which is just as well, because it rained non-stop. Just us and five wet sheepdogs in a tiny camper laughing ourselves silly watching Dog Whisperer episodes on DVD and contemplating that some people should only be permitted to own stuffed dogs. A good time was had by all.

Second and third the bug spray recommendation. If the skeeters are anywhere near as bad as they are here you may welcome being eaten by a bear

Very brave of you both.

help me................................................
I wish you moonless nights for your consitutionals....and no snakes.
LOL - I would pay good money to see this!

VAL and CAMPING don't seem to belong in the same sentence..... :sidestep:

et tu ravenmoonart???????

to be clear on this....for those of you who have forgotten the tea cup!!!!! :tea: :cup: :tea: :cup: :tea: :tea:

We WILL have what they call a pit toilet.....I looked it up...and ...well....ohmy.....I am speechless....not a pretty picture to say the least... (maybe I am getting the Swine Flu???)

AND....since I have never done this before, I think you should try everything at least once!!!! ( I now know I HATE octopus..but LOVE escargots.))) ***my throat is REALLY scratchy..

AND....there must be a Holiday Inn very close. I am sure they charge triple when they see someone coming from the campground

""HERE comes ANOTHER one!!!!! Up the price on the room by the ice machine!!!!""

UnForTunately...cameras are NOT allowed in the campground.Soo...sorry, no pictures......   @@@I would really hate to expose everyone to the H1N1.....
I truly admire you--camping 8O 8O 8O
I with the others--The Holiday Inn (without room service) is my idea of roughing it!

BUT...you will have another adventure to add to your list! :D
I think you are going to have a lot of fun. I would have loved to have seen the campsite though...... if I know you and Judi - you will have the most organized and designer campsite ever. :D
Im thinking we need to design your merit badge for this trip, Val...hmmm, where can I find a pic of what that pit toilet looks like :lmt:

Also maybe one with a bear? Or a Mosquito?

It could be worse...my last (and I DO mean last  ) tent style camping experience involved a freak late-spring snow storm, winds strong enough to bend the tent poles, and a high enough surf (we were a beach) to soak us down in our sleep! 8O Nope, no more camping for Raven!!!!
OFGS! Pit toilets aren't that bad! OK, they stink so hold your breath. You can sit (take sani wipes and wipe the seat first) and not worry about peeing on your shoes or holding position for long periods. They are private..if there's a lock on the door. If you need to read in there, take your flashlight with extra batteries.

Having worked for and being married to Smokey Bear, pits and I have a long history. Thankfully I never had to clean one or was I the one who got to pull a fool out from one....he said he "dropped his wallet." I think he was just a pervert. Anway, my greatest concern re: your camping is over.

You will have a wonderful time, probably not be able to sleep well unless they also provide cots or you are good with very firm beds. But Heart :hearts: will love having you massage her all night because you can't sleep.

The lack of shower is fine, because everyone else is in the same boat. It's only for a couple of days. As for the hikes, hopefully you've been walking already and this will be nothing.

Maudie was our camping sheepdog. She LOVED it. She kept the bear out of the car where we were huddled, she bravely tolerated the canoe on an Arizona lake, nearly dieing from heat stroke afterward, she cleared the trail of all cattle or other large varmits ahead of us, but most of all she loved to get between my husband and myself in our sleeping bags and snore and pass gas. It was just a happy little tent.
Sheepieboss..thanks for the words of encouragement.... 8O

Sounds like a wonderful time!!!!

I will go and enjoy the experience ~~~ as someone always tells me, ''it is what it is''~~~~~ with having to hike to our campsite with ALL of our gear, probably a mile, I will not be able to bring the jug of Cosmos, but will make sure the wine is securely protected between my clothes... And just for the record...I am not a walker...at least not until this Friday .....

By the end of the weekend, I will be able to attest to whether the old adage, YOU CAN'T TEACH AN OLD DOG NEW TRICKS...holds any **water**................no pun intended~~~~
There is always room for wine or cosmos, premixed. If you are afraid people will see the bottle, double wrap in ZipLocks.
I could have loaned you Chewie's backpack. Then you would have been able to pack in the cosmos!! Who's to argue if they are loaded with your favorite drink vs a water bottle??

8O :?

I haven't a clue what she is talking about. She claims she saw something on the website - I could not find anything and I looked on the rules and regulations. She thought something to the effect of "it scares the animals". :?

If there is any semblance of truth to that - I would assume only "flash" photography will scare the animals. So I will be bringing my camera.

I am not sure if she dreamt the "no camera policy" during one of her obsessing nightmares about camping OR (a more likely scenario) she did not want me taking pictures of her going potty - I have some of Mopsy that family members thought were in poor taste.

In any case, she should NOT have brought this weekend to all of your attention because I will go to State Park Jail over bringing a camera just to provide all of you with pictures of "Camping Val".
NOTE TO SELF::::::::::

take Judi on a very long hike............and come back alone!!!!!!

thank you - iced tea on my monitor now :D :D :D
:lmt:

I will still have my camera.

BTW....

She has done worse than camping for a "little scrap of material" just so Heart can wear it on her Dog Scout vest.........

She picked up lots of other doggies poops. I decided that was one badge Harry did not need.

Mine's spattered in coffee
note to self...set down drink before reading Val's posts!
I have been sitting here laughing outloud!!! Talk about funny posts and holiday inn badges....

Camping is awesome, really!! Aside from the weird noises in the woods and fellow campers who are loud and obnoxious at 2am.....lol

In all seriousness, I suggest you bring "wet ones" and baby wipes in a very large container. You are going to want to wipe your hands constantly and wipe down everything around you. I would also suggest a misquito coil too. Bug spray is one thing, but a lil plastic coil will keep them at bay.

Don't forget to bring either a coleman lantern or a big flashlight (and extra batts) so you can find your way to the potty at night....

Make sure you tuck the furkids in bed before you start telling scary stories....Have fun RUFFing it! :P
