Langley isn't interested in his food

I have never seen anything like it, Laika will gobble her's no problem.

He just lays there watching her eat. Then if she walks past his food he runs up an eats it. Not much either compares to before when he was eating over 3lbs. now I am lucky if he will eat a pound of food. Not sure if I am over reacting. Think I will take him in for a check up. Does anyone else have a picky eater?

OH but he loves cookies and raw marrow bones.

Bailey does the same thing. She waits until Riley walks by to eat her food.
I've asked the same thing! My pup is the same. First I moved down to feeding 2 times a day but then he started again. I have to convince him or hand feed him to get him going. He's a healthy pup, and changing the food didn't change his behavior either. As long as he was gaining the right amount of weight, I was told it was okay. So sometimes I just pull his food up and say oh well... you have to wait until morning. Once I started to do that, I find he eats more of his food.

We did that with babette too, Syd should of been named "Hoover" after the vacuum cleaner. Babs would just watch the boy gobble then when he started to move towards her bowl she would finally decide to eat it.

I finally did what J. did, gave her 10 mins to eat it, if not then taken up and nothing till the next meal. She has changed her ways now and eating up everything that is put down in front of her only had to do that a few times for her to realise eat up or miss out. We have finally got weight on her now due to her not mucking around when it is dinner time.

So no dont stress about it at the moment, also sometimes the growth spurts slows a bit and there not so interested in as much food then it gears up again and you cant fill them up. See what happens and try if he mucks around the food is taken up till the next meal and see if he improves in getting on with eating up.
Ditto. Just pick it up and wait until next meal. Also cut back the treats, break the biscuits in half or whatever you have to do to lessen the amount given out as treats. Of course you really shouldn't be feeding treats........yeah right, like that's going to happen, especially here.

Paige was NEVER an eager eater, often going 3-4 meals skipped. Only thing guaranteed to get her head down was canned fish, oilier the better....but never twice in a row. She was always slender, vet commented, but shrugged when I said, "She knows how much she wants to weigh and is keeping herself trim."
Sounds like Langley I had him on 2 meals a day for almost 2 months now.
I also feel the need to spoon feed him, just doesn't see to be enough food. Or I scatter cheese on top. Of course my vet says this is a no no. But I cannot help it! So funny he always waits until Laika is done eating too. But I have been picking it up. But he is a growing boy!
Just as children go through noneating spells but still manage to grow and develop, so too will your little Langley. His body will tell him when he must eat.

Are you expecting him to eat a certain amount? Maybe your expectations are too high.

If he's teething, then no, he won't want to eat.

Relax Mom, Langley will eat again. Unless he has other indications of tummy or bowel trouble, you've checked him mouth for stuck objects that are poking him in the mouth, then relax.

If he's only eating his "cookies" then he's training you to his bidding. Time to stop that.
He just really loves cookies. I won't worry so much. I feed him raw so he doesn't need tons. It was just such a jump in amounts. But of course Laika only eats 2 lbs a day. So I guess he will eventually get less too. He is 50 lbs now and almost 6 months.
Asterisk has never been an eager eater. Since I had her at 8 weeks old, she has always just grazed or ignored her food. Wendel is the opposite. You put down his food, he inhales it.

I have to be careful though, because if I leave Asterisk's down and she doesn't eat it, Wendel is more than willing to eat her food too.

She eats when she wants to.
Chewie is 3 and still is a little eater.
Not picky, just not an eater. Sometimes another dog coming near will encourage him to eat. More often he just doesn't care and one of the other piggies eats his share....
We are having that with our little Duibhin...
He wants lots of attention instead of food!
Of course he gets lots of attention BUT, he won't eat until
the others are done!
I am going to start picking up food!!!
Bet he starts loving it!!!!
I also started supplementing garlic and nobody is pleased!!
snowy did that. she would leave her food till she was ready. no big deal. BUT!!!\ when we got the new adopties no go.

all 3 chow down before another can get it. all 3 good eaters. just love to watch them.
One thing I'd suggest not doing - is catering to any interest he may show in 'spiced up' food unless you normally always add bits.

Our Shar-Pei Kobe is like this, she'll turn her nose up to regular dry food (Katie will eat anything that looks like it might be edible or just interesting). BUT, she'd eat it if we put 'extras' in there like cheese, egg, boiled chicken, rice, etc. Of course, once she realized she could eat around the kibble she would and now even turns her nose up to broth over her food. She will not eat plain dog food at all and has now decided she doesn't like her bowl. Brat!! :P If she doesn't eat it, the second Katie realizes it's there, it's gone. Doesn't bother Kobe. We've started just putting it up and giving it back to her for next meal time. Think she must have skipped a couple full meals before she finally ate her food last night.

As long as Langley seems fine otherwise and is gaining weight at a normal rate, I'd say he's just a 'unique' eater :P
cut out the cookies and use some of his food ration for rewards - I "dehydrate" meat to use for my guys trainig treats and some days its all my picky eater eats.

I pick up thin steaks (her favorite) that are short dated with the coupons on them, freeze until I have time to put a bunch in the oven on 200 degrees for about 6 hours, slice thin and they have yummy smelling training treats. I also do the same with pork or chicken for those who can and will eat it.
We tried taking Ru's food up but he didn't care. We use the cheese method too :D
well he ate about 2lbs this morning! I didn't feed him last night we had obedience class. In which he spent the whole time watching everyone else instead of listening to me. The instructor said boy dogs do not listen as well as girls. I thought it was the opposite. Could be his age right now too.
Do you really mean two pounds of food? Or two cups?
pounds :) raw food weighs more than dried.
2 pounds may be all he needs - maybe even a little more than he needs actually. Morgan gets about 2 pounds, Marley and Cedric maybe 1.5 - 1.75. We won't talk about how much B eats

When you train you need to adjust his food downwards for what he eats in class or training session.

Morgan never seemed to listen, but he did pick stuff up very quickly when we reviewed it at home. Marley listens, she just doesn't always care to cooperate :D :D
How have his stools been while consuming that much food? If they've been runny, maybe it's too much all at once?

It just sounds like a whole lot of food all at once.

Its not really - and its much less likely to cause bloat. A cup of ground mix dog food weighs close to a pound. And hardly ever runny stools!
my dogs stools are smaller than my cats! :) it is all nutrition. On raw they barely ever have soft stools.

A few months ago he was eating close to 4 lbs a day. I think since he has slowed down his growing perhaps that is why he isn't as hungry or interested.

Yeah - how old is he now? Puppies can eat up to 3% of their adult weight (four pounds sounds like a lot though), as they start to level out in age and size it comes down closer to the 2 - 2.5% of most other dogs.

And I love the nice small easy to manage poops :D
He will be 6 months end of the month.
ha it is the end of the month!
yes it is and we have had one summer like day so far :(

how big do you think he will get? FOr cvomparison, B is 150+ pounds and eats a large turkey neck (about 3/4 of a pound) - or the equivilent - and three cups of mix I make a day.
Morgan ( a newly slim 117 pounds) eats the same with only 2 cups of mix and Marley (65- 70 pounds depending on her mood) eats only one cup of mix and the turkey neck or other bone. Like I said, days I train, they may only get the bone.
Hard to say he is smaller than his brothers and sisters by probably 10 lbs. I think he is catching up. Laika was the smallest as well as a baby. But I think she is big girl now.
well you know they grow more slowly on a raw diet - that could be all the difference is.
that is what a figure. I am sure he will catch up  and maybe surpass.
Langley's appetite is back! big time!
