I think I have the oldest Ausralian Shepherd in the world!
I guess you have seen the posts... he is so old....
What a nice boy!!!!
Marty picked him up 3 weeks ago...
He is heartworm postive, deaf, missing an eye etc....
He is a nice boy....
He is laying here at my feet surrounded by sheepies!
I am sure thast is an aussie nightmare!
He is a good boy...
Any ideas would be welcome!

Do you have any Aussie rescue groups by you? We have a pretty active group up here by us (I know, that doesn't help much! )

Are you thinking of treating him, or just letting him live out the rest of his life with love?
Poor baby  What a life he must have led!

We also have an active Aussie rescue, I hope you find one that can help you out!
What does the vet say to do about the HW? Treatment might be too much for him. I'm such a softy, I'd probably keep him knowing he has a year or so left in him and now is safe and comfortable.

We did that for Little Lady. She was foisted upon us as OES mix, ha! Not at 20 lbs. She had one eye, mostly deaf, stiff and matted. We cleaned her up, kept her safe and warm for her last 3-4 months. She didn't care for me, but loved my DH. That was fine.
The aussie groups here are full and can't take him!
He is doing really well considering....
We are giving him Heartgard instead of the
treatment....I am afraid that would be way too painful!
Paddington also had heartworms when we got him but, due to his
health we did the same and he was heartworm free a year later!
He is safe here but, I would really like to see him go to a home
where he can get all of the attention he deserves and was
lacking alot of his life!
Update on our Dawson...he is getting along wondrful with the sheepers!
Earlier today he coughed up some blood, which I am sure is from the
heartworms....
I am going to talk to the vet...
Being an old man I am not sure what to do for him..
I won't let him suffer and he is doing great outside of that
one episode!
He actually was playing tonight with a Nylabone
(although he has no teeth)

I am happy that his time here is wonderful...
he loves to cuddle and sleep with me.

If Dawson only has weeks at least he blessed us in letting
us share them with him!

I hope he proves me wrong...I am worried!
Thank you for the update on Dawson. I was wondering how he was doing. The Aussies are indeed a loving breed. Give him a gentle hug from China and Asia. :D
