good "pottying" for us

Hello all...
I have been reading all the threads on potty training.
Here is what we did. Lucky was 8 weeks when we got him. We put up a baby gate in our master bath which is down a short hall from our bedroom. He can hear us and we can hear him. He goes to bed about 9pm right after we take him out. We then took him out about 2-3am then he'd go again about 6am. Now at 11 weeks, we take him out at 8pm then again about 10-11pm...he doesn't go again till 7-7:30am. Seems like a long time to me...9 hours, but he's been doing that for about 2 weeks now. During the day I take him out every 1-2 hours. Lots of times he will sit at the door when he has to go out. If he is playing with his toys, he forgets to go to the door and I have to quick catch it before he has an accident. All in all though he seems to be catching on beautifully!!
Oh, we do take his water up at 9:00. When he comes in after going outside before bed he gets the last of his water till morning.

That sounds good. :D keep up the good work.

Key points for success are learning how long it takes your puppy to process the food and water - and timing the trips outside so they never or rarely go in the house.

Also, watching them and learning the signs that they give. Mostly it is a restlessness and body language thing that you pick up. Growing up with the Brittanies with litters of pups and having dogs all the time at our house, and training fosters, I have way too much practice

One common mistake is giving them too much free roaming in the house, and they get by with a pee or a poop in the house. Then it is an uphill battle.

With a new dog or puppy they never get so much house that they don't have someone keeping them in visual range at all times.
