Panda's firestation adventure...

Brian moved to a new quiet fire station in the swanky part of town..Paradise Valley....

Last night he called and asked me to come for dinner....I readily accepted because i couldnt wait to see the new station...of course, panda came as well....

Usually, panda is a little weirded out at any station...but will still play, run, chase and roam.....she has been known to hang out in some of the crews hooches with them....lol....

Anyway, we walk thru the bay (off leash), go to the door, i open it and we walk in...the hallway of the station is beautiful...black terrazzo floor, white walls and natural maple accents....i start walking, get about halfway down the hall and realize that panda isnt near me...

I turn around and there she is still by the door...backed up completely with her butt touching the door...i call to her...nothing...i call again..nothing..try enticing her with a cookie...nada...

Brian comes from around the corner and calls her...she backs up even more (if thats possible)...i go to her, put her leash on and she finally follows...but hugs the wall...i mean, full body up against the wall...

In the open bright living area, she cowered under the table and wouldnt come out...even for cornbread...hmmm....to leave we had to put the leash back on and once outside she was fine...running and playing...

I have NEVER seen her act like that...i wonder what her impression was that made her scared....the floor seemed fine....i even bent down and looked at it from her level but couldnt sense anything odd...

The floors were slippery, however, when she first walked in, she was on a rug and still refused to move.....

I hate it when we can't figure out what's wrong :( :(
When Panda was about 9 months old she totally freaked out at a show where the floor was dark blue... and on someone's kitchen floor that was a dark shiny vinyl tile... not sure what it was about but she got over it. I wonder if it's too shiny or dark if they think they'll fall through or something?
could she see herself in the flooring?

einy get upset if he can see himself this is why we have plastic water bowls not stainless steel he would not drink untill i changed the bowls

he was scared of the sheepie in the bottom looking at him while he drank

zoe and einy
hmmm...stacey...you may have hit something...the floor was shiney but not overly so....just dark....i think we need to go more often to practice (and get free meals) 8)
Poor Panda probably fmelt all the new smells and felt all the new textures. Oh well, I'm sure eventually you'll figure it out. :D
I think it was the floor. She saw a sheepie underneath her and didn't want to step on it. Poor girl, assume she was right as rain afterwards.

Yeah, my aunt and uncle lived in Paradise Valley for awhile before returning to New York. Ritzy, wayyyy over there, next stop, Payson.
i am with everyone it had to be the floor they really are sooooooooooo senitive , try maybe another door .. or maybe she did not like the modern fancy look
Poor Panda, maybe she could sense something, or maybe she didm't like a smell or the floor or something.
My vote is the floor and a different surface so was very strange to panda girl.
I would assume that if the floor was dark enough and lighting hit it just right, she may have mistaken it for water thinking she would have fallen through it?? -

We have black granite tile in our guest bath, and Matisse will NOT go near it unless there is a rug down on the floor.....

Also, they can see reflections, so I'm certain that doesn't help the matters...maybe they get vertigo (is that what it's called)???
Aww, Poor Panda. What did all the new firemen think of the pretty pink princess?
yes, the floor was black shiny terrazzo... and we all know how she hates the water..lol....

of course they all loved the pink princess....but they did think she was a little kooky with hiding under the table and hugging the walls....
