Give a shammi (chamois) leather as a gift to a young child

Get the kid a shammi leather.
Best thing to get them into a work ethic,... and... you get a house full of nice clean windows too.

What the heck is a shammi leather? And why would someone want to get a 5 year old boy a 'gift' to do chores with?

AND this topic is several years old now...
When I was a kid, even though there was always stuff we wanted from watching all the toy commercials, and since my little brothers and I have birthdays on the 1st, 9th and 11th of July, as one of our gifts my parents always took us to Valleyfair (MN's fun amusement park) around the time of our birthdays. We LOVED it and then just got one or two other simple things besides that or were allowed to pick some silly thing out at the Valleyfair. To this day we all still make a July Valleyfair trip :)

They still try to make our days special - even though they have resorted to giving us cash as a gift - my mom makes the meal of our choice (even in a few days on my 27th, I'll be heading over there for some tuna noodle casserole hehe), birthday dessert of our choice, etc.

Not JUST reminiscing here - something like that may be fun in lieu of a toy they don't need!

We were having the "Present" talk yesterday. One of those Sponser a Child commercials came on, and he asked me why they didn't have toys, water, floors in their houses, food, etc... I tried to explain the best they could that although their parents worked hard, they didn't make enough money to provide everything they needed. He told me that instead of buying him presents for his birthday since he has plenty to buy those kids some toys to play with. How sweet was that? It made me cry...lol

One really cool thing I saw when we were living in England - and I still use it as gifts over here in the states - OXFAM Unwrapped!

You can buy things like - a dozen hens; schoolbooks; safe water; a pair of goats; training and materials people in needy (3rd world iirc) villages around the world need to survive and thrive. And they send you a little card that explains what you bought and how it affects and helps the recipients, that you could give to him and he could put up in his room or something. The website lists prices in GBP but they do take US payment. Just use xe.com to convert! I used to just double to get $ but I know it's less now.
Chamois is a very very soft leather made from splits lambskin or splits sheepskin ... poorly imitated by products like the Shamwow.

Used for polishing and/or dusting and/or drying.

Originally actually made from a type of goat called a chamois though....

Those shamwow things suck.
they are actually really horrible :( I was very disappointed.

BUT...how's the Slapchop work, that's what I want to know! The ad makes me laugh hysterically.
