Eleven and 1/2 yrs of steadfast refusal to go out in rain!

We've had two solid days of rain, and thus, two solid days of Portage refusing to go out. He just smells the moisture and puts on the brakes at the door. Sigh. It's been this way for him since puppyhood.

We've had three poops in the house as a result. And dragging him out results in one very cranky wet dog who withholds his poops until he's indoors, dry and warm.

On the positive side, he has continued to get stronger, and although he's still incontinent, we're seeing some ability to hold it. (We went through four or five pads/depends a day before, and now one or two will do it...mostly dribbling before he steps out.)

Of course all the rules change when it rains. We have gotten some pees on the deck (under the overhang) but he tries to get back in before he's finished.

We are, of course, okay to wait him out. Eventually the sun does come back out, but if this is the start of forty days and forty nights of rain things may get a touch stinky around here.

Big, silly dog. Apparently in his world raindrops penetrate skin and can cause a horrible death. :o

Hudson, however, is happiest when he's dirty, wet and smelly. What a pair they make.

oh that made me laugh. would you like to go to the bathroom in the rain? no! Wont he go on newspaper? My very first yorkie, tiny little thing was trained to go on paper. When she got older, if there was a paper on the floor, just come through the front door well you can guess the rest..
Patch also is adverse to rain or dew - she is afraid her dainty GIGANTIC paws might get wet - she literally jumps and hops across the yard like she is walking on hot coals. She is so full of personality so I chalk it up to more of her funny antics.
I guess it is feast or famine when it comes to this subject. My dogs have no problem going out in the rian. Shaved or full coated, they don't even seem to notice it is raining on them! No clean-up inside other than having to towel them down or use the doggie hairdryer on them. But for some reason it always seems to take them longer to find "that perfect spot" when it is raining
I have to force Clyde out in the rain or even heavy humidity. He won't budge. He'll go once he's out but he's not happy about it. It's more like he hates the moisture in the air more than getting wet. Or he just found yet another excuse to be more lazy.
Mine also hold it, fortunately rains don't last long here. In emergencies they'll condescend to go out in drizzle and make a fast retreat when done. Forget it tho if there's lightning or thunder.

I had one boy who grew tired of holding it and would to the edge of the covered porch and lift his leg.....sometimes he'd pee out and sometimes he'd pee towards the house. It was the thought that counted.
Yuki doesn't go outside either when it rains ...but thankfully when we do force her, she poops and pees as fast as lightning!!

I RATHER HAVE THAT A MILLION TIMES OVER than the puppy who like the pp ....will stay out forever trying to pee AND then drink all the water puddles. I hate it. Having a dog who likes to be clean is much better. Plus, a wet dog makes a stinky dog.
Sammy hated the rain too. But she never had an accident in the house. She would hold it as long as she could and then go the very last minute. Sometimes that meant the whole day. I thought that was just one of her quirks but now I realize it's a common sheepie thing. She also hated windy days and humid days. She really adored snowy days though.

It makes me smile to remember this.

Lovind and Missing my sweet Sammy girl.
lol, I love how different Portage and Hudson are. It's so cute. Like oil and water those two are.
How different are these dogs?

Tonight Archie hid in his cage when I got his wax cotton coat out - we are having a lovely UK summer at the mo' (The grass needs watering and this is free!) the side door has been open all day and he knows it is raining, his earlier walk he got wet, I thought I was doing him a favour!

I put his coat away, out he comes of his cage sits by the open door pawing me to put his collar and lead on

Out we go, forward a few steps stop and sniff, forward a few steps stop and sniff, repeat you get the picture! an hour and a half later one very soggy happy doggy! and yes he waited until he was indoors before shaking himself off!
