Where is Parking for Central Park?

I may have the opportunity to visit New York City with the dog in the car, and I'd like to talk a walk in Central Park with Mulligan. I know Central Park is huge, so I don't know what section I'd like to stroll, nor do I know where I can park to be near to the section where I want to go park hiking.

So, where should I go to park to walk in the park?

Of course money matters somehwat so a $50 per hour spot wouldn't be great... :D

You might try making reservations for Tavern on the Green and park there. They have a patio but don't know if it is dog friendly. If you paid for a $50 brunch or lunch--at least you would get food and parking!
The park is huge; so there really isn't specific parking. But the Metropolitan Museum of art is on the park, so you could use their parking garage and just walk on into the park if you wanted. I'd check their website for current parking fees and restrictions.

I personally love visiting the boat pond at the park; there are gorgeous large bronze statues there. Also deep into the park, not exactly sure where, there is (or was, this was many years ago) an old style carosel.

here's the park's official website:

I am not sure any NY restaurants are dog friendly" I think they can't be (unless of course you have a little foofoo in your bag and then everyone pretends not to notice)
We went to Tavern on the Green when we went to Westminster a few years ago. I would never go there again except to look at how beautiful the place is. They were so nasty to us and I had a hair in my salad. When I quietly asked my waitress to get me a new one...she looked in the salad, turned up her nose and said it was "just" an eyelash.

I would just find someplace you can park and skip the Tavern.

thats such a shame! I went there decades ago, and it was the height of fine dining back then!
Hi Ron,
If you are coming on the weekend you should be able to get FREE on street parking near the park in the 80's and 90's. Being a biased west sider I usually find it easier to park on the west side than the east side (my brother would disagree, he is an east sider). On the weekends when many NYers head out to the Hamptons or Jersey shore it is usually pretty easy to get a spot. Avoid the avenues (i.e. Columbus or Amsterdam, you have to feed the meter). Just make sure you read the parking signs and you will be fine.

Make sure you have poop bags! NYC just raised the fine for not cleaning up to $250.00 and they tend to watch pretty closely in CP.

Enjoy yourself. I love walking in the park with Dudley and Oscar.

ive never had a problem finding a parking in sutton place area... maybe you can park there and walk to central park?
Tavern on the green was a beautiful place. I used to go alot with my parents when I was younger. I heard that it changed quite a bit so I wouldn't be surprised if people were turning cheek either way -
We go to Tavern on the Green every couple of years and have always had a good experience. It is a little pricy--but we have always had good food and good service and the beauty is worth the money. JMO
