4 weeks without a cigarette

Most of you regulars know of my battle with quitting. I'm proud to announce that I've gone 4 weeks without smoking. I'm using the patch this time. I've had my moments of hard craving but so far so good.

President Obama says he's 95% quit. I want to tell him "you either smoke or you don't smoke. You can't be a part-time smoker." Cuz I would be if I could. Good luck to him.

Oh, Paula!!!!!! :roses:
You never HAVE to have a cigarette again for as long as you live!
You have broken the death-grip that they had on you, eliminated the physical addiction and now you have to fight for just a little longer until you can eliminate them from your memory and your instincts!
HANG IN THERE, you're 90% home! :ghug:

You mention the President's self delusional denial- well, maybe it will work for him, but I agree with you. But what I found interesting is that while I was watching his news conference live, I didn't equate his situation with me, or think about my quitting or anything until just now! Those buggers are GONE from my head! Woo Hoo! It will happen for you, too. I promise!
:cheer: :cheer: Great job, Paula!! :cheer: :cheer:

As someone who would have a cigarrette a week or so when I "smoked" I think maybe some people can be part-time smokers :)

Good work!! think of all the money you will save!!!!
Congratulations Paula, it's a hard thing to do and I'm still trying
Funny you should mention this just now, Paula, as I was just thinking about you yesterday and wondering how it was going with your quitting. I know you've struggled with it and I sincerely applaude your efforts. I am proud of you for going four weeks without a cigarette. Bravo!! I wish you the very best of luck and will power to continue to beat it.
Paula, I'm always so proud of you. They say you can quit many, many times, until it sticks. I hope your are stuck this time.

I look forward to a smoke-free lunch with you in August!!!

As for the Prez...yea right. Part-time, my Aunt Fanny! He was (probably still is) a very heavy smoker. That kind can't go part time. It's all or nothing. I know, because that's the kind of smoker I was. I also had to laugh when he was first asked the question, and answered, the legislation is not about me...it's for future generations. That was the true answer.

Ok...gotta grab a nicorette. (My crack gum!)

Love ya, Paula !!!

You can do it for the long haul!! Hang in there!
Congratulations!! You are inspiring me! I bought an E Cigarette and am going to give it a try. It is supposed to work like the patch--but with the 'oral' gratification.
Paula, well done you....I have quit for 8 years now, I can't imagine smoking again....so stupid, I can run now and ride my horse and i don't stink of smoke and have more money....it's a no brainer!!!!
Paula, how is it going with quitting smoking? I am with you all the way, I've been through it, best thing I ever did. Think beyond the cig, you'll do great!
Keep up the good work Paula! My husband smoked for years & years. He was always going to quit but never quite made it. That was until his dad died............ :( His dad had always wanted him to quit & was always giving him incentives to try to kick the habit. We got thru the funeral & the next day he threw his cigarettes away & quit cold turkey. That was in June 1990.....19 years ago! It was rough going for about 6 months. He went thru some personality changes during that time too....became extremely grouchy & usually he's very "laid back & rolls with the punches". But my sons & I kept encouraging him & we put up with the moods. Once we got over that hump, he was alot better. So I know it can be done & YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!! :cheer:
CONGRATS! I want to quit. both I and my husband want to begin Chantix soon. Maybe mid september. I too have quit before, but boy it is tuff.

The best thing I ever did........got my life back.......go running, walk the boys, ride Minnie, gotmoney....no brainer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We're all behind you!
I could use all the help and support I can get. Thanks. Today was my first day on Chantix. Had a bad headache but it is gone now.
Will keep posting

Hang in there, cookie...it will get better..honest!
Good luck and be tough!!! 8)
Remember that you are supposed to continue smoking for the first week you take Chantix. Chantix needs to build up in your system. But you have to set a quit date.

I've used Chantix twice with success. The first time I used it I quit for over 2 years, and the second time was at the beginning of this year. Stopping smoking was the hardest thing I've ever done, and quite frankly, not a day goes by that I don't want to smoke. But I guess I don't want to smoke more than I want to, cuz I haven't bought cigarettes in months.

Keep on keepin' on is my motto.....
Thanks for your help! My quit date is Sept 23. Yesterday I had a headache that was really bad - side effect of Chantix?
Wow you gave it up for two years! Now months! Good for you! Many of my friends have had success with Chantix. I am hoping! i need to quit
I never got headaches from Chantix. I got sick to my stomach for an hour after taking it. But I figured that was better than the nausea from chemo for lung cancer!

I can't say if your headache was a reaction to the Chantix. Not everyone experiences side effects.

It could be an anxiety or stress headache. Knowing you're prepping to quit smoking is definately stressful. Good luck!
Quitting causes headache. Be sure to keep ahead of it with asprin and/or Tylenol.

unless wine triggers migraines for you...like me :(
Well after three days on Chantix - the headaches are bad, nausua, vomiting and confusion - all not good. Dr wants me off and will try Welbutrin (Zyban). Will have to wait until Thurs. So I still want the quit date of 9/23. I will keep trying. Now just want my brains back and to feel better.

Thanks all!
Definitely sounds like a reaction to the Chantix. One member (who hasn't posted in a loooooong time) had a severe reaction also and had to quit. Hopefully the Zyban will work. There are so many quit aids--you can try them all til you find what helps. Debcram is still chewing gum after 5 years, and I'm on the patch.
i will try the zyban with the patch. if i cannot take the zyban, i will use the patch alone.

you have had success with the patch?

wow five years on the gum for the other member?

this is a nasty habit !!
Do you want more biscuits??

Good luck and keep going...

My husband calls it my "crack" gum. Jokes on him...he's been chewing it too, for 3 years!!!!!
I thought Tony still smoked cigars???????

I just remembered that I forgot to put on the patch this morning. I will be crabby the rest of the day......
Thankfully, Tony gave up cigars about 3 years ago! But now he's on crack gum
ha crack gum! A friend of mine has chewed the gum for twenty years! just returned from the doc. he wants me to wait a few days then start the wellbutrin and patches. hopefully i will not react so violently. i am still sick from the chantix.

so i start the wellbutrin sun. take it for a week, then put the cigs down and apply the patch. hope all works.

thanks all!
ok all fine with the pills and the patch. not smoking for almost four weeks. also working out very hard so i do not gain weight. but oh do i want to eat! that is the biggest challenge. i am always hungry. so i eat carrots, pretzels etc.. non fattening food. also lots of sugarless gum. i keep busy with the dogs also.
Good for you!! :cheer:

keep up the good work :D
Four weeks without a cig is awesome. Truth be told, not a day goes by that I don't want to smoke. But I don't.

There is a cool quit meter at silkquit.org that will track how many cigarettes you haven't smoked, how much money you've saved, and how much time you've added to your life.
:clappurple:
I am on quitnet.com. they count the days, the money saved etc.. it is cool and motivating. You still want to smoke? oh no i was hoping this would get easier. it is not horrible but not easy. it is the craving for food that is difficult. So i am exercising a lot!

thanks for the support!
today is 4 weeks for me yeahhhhhhhhh
Yay!!! Keep up the excellent job :D
Go Suz go! I still think about smoking every day, but every day the thought is weaker.

Think of how good you smell and how much money you have saved and how you no longer have to plan your life around smoking. It is a great liberator.

That is....

EXCELLENT!!!!!! WOO HOOO!
You are now IN CONTROL of this aspect of your life -- you are no longer controlled by that stupid firestick. You'll never have to have another one! Keep it up, and let us know if we can help!
I am jumping on the bandwagon and just started a smoking cessation program. Today we got our "aids" and I choose Zyban, the patch and the puffer. A bit worried about taking the Zyban. the warnings are scary...
i have been taken zyban you should be fine good luck the gum really helps
me...on nicorette for 6+ years and counting
