But Langley gets a pillow; gets it just right and goes to town. I just try to casually distract him. Not sure if I should tell him it is bad. Or will I scar him thinking his urges aren't normal haha! just joking. |

This isn't a blast back at you but more a humping observation, in general. I'll never understand why people get so bent out of shape or weirded out by humping. Who cares? Between dogs, I never intervene unless it seems like an actual problem and/or the other dog is scared or could get hurt because of extreme size differences or something like that. Most of the time, the dogs work it out just fine on their own. On people, it's a no no but you establish your boundaries and stop it.
As far as I'm concerned, they can hump whatever inanimate object that they want as long as they're quiet and happy, lol. Quiet humping beats bouncing my couches off the walls any day. ![]() |
I have to agree, no big deal unless between dogs and one of them doesn't gets upset. Then it's more a dominance issue and/or part of a good play session.
Interest in a pillow? Harmless self entertainment. |

I agree its no biggie, unless .......
Our dalmo did the humping thing. He had a big soft teddy to sleep with when he was a puppy. He started humping it. DH is a farm boy, and thought it hysterically funny which just encouraged Rastus. ![]() But then it progressed to humping human feet, we couldnt sit down and cross out legs without daffo jumping on the foot that was in the air and going for it, ![]() ![]() ![]() Whenever he got excited, he started humping. So he humped at the offlead park, usually the other dogs head. ![]() ![]() When we went to the vets he humped the vets leg. ![]() Rastus is a fairly dominant dog and he started using humping at the park to dominate other dogs. ![]() In the end we had him desexed and did lots of leadership work. He will still try it sometimes at the offlead park and he usually picks an older dog who is less flexible so its harder for them to turn and have a go at him ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

![]() no, laughing and cheering a hump is fair play, too! Clyde is an air humper when he gets excited (like when we come home in the evenings) and it starts out slow and then one of us yells "AIR HUMP!" and we cheer and give him butt scratches. I assume those rewards pave the way for future air humps. ![]() |
