Announcement and IN NEED OF TRANSPORTATION HELP!!!

I know some of you may know that we have been wanting to get a rescue for our home and playmate for Baloo for some time...
After many talks with Grannie Annie and not being the right fit with any of those great dogs she's placing... it is with a lot of EXCITEMENT that I now can say:

WE ARE GETTING A SISTER for Baloo!! Litterally.... his sister. His littermate.
They got Lily back and needed to find a good fur-ever home for her.... and we fit the bill!! Baloo and his sis will be reunited soon- I hope! I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am!!! :yay:

Here is where I am asking for help from anyone who is able: I can't afford to fly Lily here... she's as big as Baloo! (How much would it cost to fly a 90+ pound dog?) I can only imagine!

If anyone... ANYONE happens to be traveling for the upcoming 4th holiday and will be going anywhere in the path of Peoria, Ill to NY... Please, I beg, Please help with transport. I can offer some small token towards gas. I know it's not cheap. That's why if anyone happens to be traveling for the holiday anyway... and doesn't mind a tag-along for a little bit of the way, it might work out well.

We can work out details as needed... I just wanted to put the first pleading forum post out here as soon as I could... :plead: :plead:

I'm glad to hear of your new family member. :D

I can't help with the travel, as I'm west of you but I'm sure someone here is in the right spot!
Go to http://www.Yahoogroups.com Search pet rescue.

There are various pet rescue groups that do transport. http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/I-90_Rescue_and_Transport/

Sign up for the group and then ask how to get your pup on board. It would be great if you could be a voluteer to transport for other dogs. Most driving legs are just 1 hour.
HEY!! THanks for that info. I didn't even know that existed. I would love to help out a driving leg if I ever could...

I will check into it and see what I find out.
I have signed up for several groups for driving pets (as suggessted above) but I am actually not getting much help in the way of getting my transport listed -- unless I am doing it wrong...

but it appears it's because I am not going thru an official rescue group.

If anyone has any other suggestions or can offer some fantastic help... PLEASE let me know!!! 8O
I don't know if you looked into air, but it would cost just under $500 to fly him Northwest and it looks like American Airlines offers a military discount, too. (Are you guys even military? I forget.) I looked at the shipping calculator and it seemed too cheap (like kennel and all for under $400) so I think that warrants a phone call. It might be worth checking out. When all is said and done, it might be a lot easier and less time consuming-- and not as expensive as you thought. Maybe...
We've used Northwest Airlines several times and always had a good experience. It looks like they have a difference rate schedule then when we had Bumble flown in from San Diego... http://www.nwa.com/services/shipping/cargo/arpets.pdf

You'll need a vet certificate for her to fly... I think it's good for 10 days. And an appropriate size crate. If temperature restrictions are a concern, look for a flight early in the morning or later in the evening. And get a direct flight... NO stopovers.
This may be a silly question...

but what sized crate do you guys suggest for flying? :?
You can find info if flying Northwest at this address-

There are other prices on the page above... not sure which ones to use.
alternatively, you could just drive out yourself. Having driven from Ill to my placein NY (about 3-4 hours further than you) in one day in May, I don't see its undoable.
Oh No one said driving it is not do-able. Not at all. Our hometown is in Ohio. We just returned from a driving trip there 2 weeks ago. I didn't have another trip scheduled into the budget untill late August when my DH visits his family for the last time before his deployment to Iraq (again- *sigh*) DH leaves for training in Louisiana on July 6th. Not back till Aug. (hence the trip) then he's off for Iraq. :(

SO it was just time and finances were the reason for the feelers if anyone was able to help. I understand that it is not possible. I am ok with that. No worries  Lily will get here one way or another.
go to uship.com it is like ebay you put in the dates and pic of the dog and people send you bids .. i was going to do it with a pup from n.y to fla they only wanted 150.00 but the pup fell through. alot of truckers go on it for extra cash they also have a rating on the people and feedbacks good luck
^^^

Thanks! I will look into that.
