Puppy Update: Henry II

Update: it turns out that that cute little puppy that I got a few weeks ago was not a good fit for me or my home. He is a great puppy: cute, smart, charming, confident, playful, etc. It is hard to explain when the chemistry is just not right. It is sort of like when you first start dating someone. He could be the greatest guy . . . for someone else.

So I sent him back to the breeder and I am sure she will be able to find him a great home and they will be lucky to have him. Even knowing it was the right decision, it was really hard to part with him. But, in the long run, I think he will be much happier for it too.

But even before he was gone, I was already missing having a puppy around. As luck would have it, Edy of Bizzeeboots had a male pup that would be available in a few weeks. After what seemed like months of waiting, I finally got to meet our new Henry yesterday and he is exactly the personality type I was seeking. It was love at first sight. All I want to do is cuddle him and feel those soft puppy kisses. I kept the same name because I love how sweet it sounds. Plus I figure the other pup will probably get a new name from his new family.

I wanted to share some pictures of Henry's homecoming:

Car ride home from the airport. The gentle boy just sat there and gave me kisses the whole way.

Yikes! What the heck is that??

(Yes, that is a dog bed on the porch. No, they don't sleep outside. That is just for their comfort and convenience while we are out back.)

We had a great day and I am thrilled to have him. I think he will be a great playmate for Maggie and beloved friend for my BF and me. Please welcome our new Henry. :)

Welcome Henry II! :)

I totally get where you're coming from... sometimes there's just a "personality clash", I had that happen with one of my own breeding that I kept. (Bree) She's a great dog, but it was like she just didn't mesh with the dynamics here..... she's still mine but lives with very good friends of mine about 5 minutes away.
Welcome Henry II!!! I know this was a difficult decision for you, but it's good that you determined it early in time for the other Henry to get a great home quickly.

Henry II is adorable!!!
What a cute little guy. :D

The picture running from the rhino is fun - hopefully not a permanent condition. Hope he's chewing on the snout soon!
Ah, you got one of Edy's :D Hope this one works out well.

We watched that litter grow each weekand had our favs.

I'm not sure I'm up to another puppy so I envy you and admire you at the same time. (sigh) Imagine a quality puppy, that is one from a great breeder, not these rescue bums.......tho they are wonderful (!!) rescue bums.
He is adorable! His eye patch is in the same place that Frank's eye patch is. :hearts: http://www.ideapatio.com/oursheepdog/franksbreeder.html

Glad to hear that he's a sweetie.

p.s. Nice Rhino!
I just love him, and glad you found a fit for you (and your family ...hehehe).

He really is just tooo cute! Keep posting updated pics of that sweet boy!
:? Am I the only one that feels sad for the first pup??

Thanks everyone! This guy is fitting in perfectly. He is a super sweet little pup. Maggie, the BF and I are having a great time getting to know him. He is great with Maggie and responds to her signals instantly. She just has to look at him sharply and he stops whatever he was doing and runs away or rolls over. It is really fun taking him out places because of all the oohs and aahs. I am especially pleased that he is very calm when greeting everyone, including children. I am also amazed at how much easier the housebreaking is for a raw fed pup. He needs to go much less often than a kibble-fed pup and he can hold his pee all night. :clappurple: He is slowly adjusting to Mountain time. His 4 am wakeup ready to play is now creeping closer to 5:30. If I can just get him to 6, I'll be happy. Actually, I am already very happy. This is my dream puppy.

Really? I am sure he is going to go to a great home where he will be loved and appreciated for who he is. Just because he didn't fit into my household doesn't mean he's not a good fit for many other people. In fact, the same qualities that didn't work for me may be ideal for someone else. Of course, I was sad to part with him but because he was cute and endearing, etc. not because there was anything sad about what is in store for him. He is a beautiful dog from a well-respected breeder and he is still such a baby that it should not be hard to place him.
Congrats on your boy!! I know it must have been hard for you to part with Henry #1. Sometimes the dynamics in the household just don't work and it's a hard decision to make to give the pup/dog back. Unless one has been in this situation, it's hard for someone to understand. I'm sure you put allot of thought as to not only what is best for you and your household...but what is best for Henry too. I went through a similar situation almost two years ago with Carmella. We loved her to death and became very bonded in the short time she was here...but to make a long story short...it just didn't work and her breeder found her a wonderful home and she couldn't be happier. :D

The pic's are great....he's a cutie!!
I think Henry II is lovely. I am sure HenryI will find a great home too. Just because he didn't work for you doesn't mean he won't be the perfect pup for someone else. You already have one there to consider too. The dynamics have to be right for Maggie too.

Since I have Carmella/Bella now, I totally understand. She is not a dog for everyone, as a matter of fact, most people are scared of her. She is the most loving OES when it comes to people...but dogs can be another issue. It took some time but she is a good fit now. Why start out that way if it isn't necessary? I wouldn't wish my problem child on anyone, but we love her and she is happy here. You needed to do what was best for you and the pup. It is great that you realized that before you had a problem.
He sounds like a real sweetie val and your so lucky he is holding his pee pee at night at that age. WOW.

Having kept two I did not have that joy till ages later, I thought the two terrors would never get it.   Even though last potty was about 11 at night and up real early at 5 in the morning.

I'm Jealous when it comes to how good he has been at holding overnight :P    You have it way too easy there :P

Sounds like he is doing wonderfull and fitting in great with you all.
I dont doubt HenryI will find a good home, I sincerely hope so. I just cannot imagine a pup that age not fitting in????

I understand. When you are taking in a puppy, it is a loooonnngggg commitment. You need to be in love with this creature that will be crying at night, peeing on your floor, chewing your stuff and such. I think that you were right to do what you did. The first puppy deserves to be loved as much as you love Henry II. I am guessing he will find that family.
Having to give up a dog, no matter what age is a hard thing to do. Be it a puppy or a full grown dog.

I can attest to the fact that Valerie and Henry II are wonderful together! And Maggie is wonderful for him too.

I am sure the other breeder will find a good home for the puppy. Sometimes dynamics just dont work....... and they need to be returned and everyone wonders why. But there are good reasons and now all is well. Valerie, you did the right thing. Quit worrying about it now and go throw those toys to your two, and let me dig up some prized posessions in the yard!!!!!!
