no secret I had a fall a few weeks ago, I am up at night and happen to catch a program on the Discovery Health channel.

Sirprised me to all get out.....

Germs Germs Germs... Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad
subject was your basting brush.oh my the germs ect.
it showed one person wash the brush under very hot water and soap and another wash the brush and put it in the dishwasher. WRONG
after being tested both had so much bacteria it them it turned my stomach.
noway to clean them so if you use a reg brush , toss it.

Way to go is silcone. Does not habor the germs after cleaning..

So just a heads up on a germ source I had not thought about.

Mine have been replaced as of today Smile
Thanks! I've always felt the basting brush was a germ land. Think I'll pick up a silicon one this weekend.
Provided that you aren't basting right at the end, the heat should cook off most of the germs anyway. Fire cures all. Smile

Exactly what I was thinking
Yea, it's not like you are licking the brush after Twitchy

But who wants to take that chance? Cool
Yeah, I threw out my regular basting brush a few years ago and got a silicone one. But I will never give up my wooden spoons! Laughing
I go to Ace Hardware and get the 99Cent paint brushes (small) they have a wooden handle......... I will use them about 6 or 10 times, then throw them out. I do put them in the dishwasher on Sanitize.... but they make great bbq basters.
