Help! Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GT Reviews Please

HELP!

As most of you know, I'm looking for a convertible. In researching and researching looking for a convertible with enough headroom, I've come across the Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GT.

This is a 6 cylinder model with a padded ragtop. I happen to be looking at a 2001 model for about $8,000, which is way over what I really wanted to spend, but this looks like a really nice car (on the 'net anyway).

So I've been reading about the model a little bit, and apprently it went away after 2005 to be replaced in 2007 by an upgraded version. I see a USED 2009 model (non-GT so it's a 4 cylinder) going for as little as $20 grand, so that's complicating things as well.

Does anyone have any experience with this/these particular model(s)? The headroom is listed as 39.6 or some such which is great -- how about shoulder and hip room? And leg room? How about getting in and out, and what about accessibility to the tiny back seats -- do the front seats get out of the way nicely or is it impossible for anyone over 30 (or a sheepdog) to get back there?

Thanks!

PS Any info from anyone in the business that might have an inside track on issues about the car would be appreciated too!

Two seater cars with fours seats really are a compromise, you'll find the rear seats next to useless apart for very small people, maybe okay for a hound to lounge on though!
I used to have the Eagle Talon version of that car (sans convertible, slightly different body style but very close) and it was hands down, the most uncomfortable cramped car that I've ever owned. The legroom was terrible and I knocked my knees on the dash almost every time I drove. Seats had zero lumbar support and didn't go back far enough. The back seat was useless and hard to access if you actually wanted to use it even to put things in. I bought the car because it was cute and got a great deal from a friend of a friend that was losing his license from too many speeding tickets. It didn't seem that uncomfortable on the test drive. Unless they changed some things up with the interior, it may not be ideal.
FWIW, my 6'4" tall son has a MB SKL350 that he loves. He bought it used, with 20,000 miles on it, and he got a great deal on it. Still a bit higher than what you want to pay, but it is an awesome car.
My ex-g/f had an '04 Mitsu Eclipse GT hardtop. Fully loaded, with the V-6, leather, sunroof, and manual transmission.
I really liked that little car. While it wasn't extremely powerful, the 200 hp V-6 and stick gave the car some zip. It handled very nicely and the leather seats were very comfortable.
I'm 6'1" and I didn't really have a problem fitting in the car even with the sunroof.
She bought it brand new and sold it about a year & half later. She said it didn't feel sporty enough. Of course she was comparing it to my '02 Trans Am. If you do that, then yes, it doesn't feel too sporty. But that's not a fair comparison.
A Trans Am is a completely different animal than an Eclipse.

For what the Eclipse was, I liked it.
