Begging at the table

Keira has started begging :plead: at the dinner table. Not all her fault...I'm am guilty of giving her nibbles. But it's getting really annoying, and Tony is running out of patience with me and her. Last night we had company, and Keira was hanging all over everyone.

Tony and I discussed this, and have come up with what I hope will be a solution.

We are planning on crating the dogs while we eat. Does this seem like a fair way to handle it? Any other suggestions?

You could also train her to lay down next to the table and only give her treats when she's in the position you want. I'm the feeder in the house and I figured since I was guilty of turning the dogs into beggars, I also better be the one to make them manageable while we eat. All three of them lie down and line up next to or under the table and wait for me to give them treats. It is amazing to me that they wait so patiently-- I don't even give them much, lol.
seems reasonable and fair to me - only Morgan is allowed in the room with us when we eat and we use it as training time. Usually the dogs are eating in their space while we eat in ours though.
We've done both crate during dinner and creating a border of where they are/aren't allowed. This is generally the wall for the kitchen so they just lay there until one of us seem done ...then they start coming closer and closer. They're learning slowly.
Ours aren't supposed to cross the threshold into the kitchen at dinnertime.
They sometimes need reminders. Sigh. Kaytee won't stay out so she goes
into another room (bossy girl... you'd think she was deaf too).

I slap the wall/floor and say "back".

When dinner's done and the table is clear,
I say, "babies come" and they get a treat.
We have never let Archi in the dining room when we eat - period

We have a child gate between the kitchen and dining room and lounge, he gets let in the evening or during the day when we say so, not when he wants.

He is very good in the kitchen and when carving a joint of meat he waits without any begging for the odd scrap to be dropped - he knows if he pushes his luck then he is put into the utility room or the garden - it has worked well so far.
