fostering a sheepie

Hi I was just wondering how I would get started on fostering an OES? Does anyone have info on this?

What a good heart you have!!! Contact your closest rescue, and tell them you are available.

But be warned! We were Lizzie's foster's parents...and we couldn't let her go, we fell in love with her (thanks Kristine!)

It really takes a special person(s) to foster. Thank you!
I don't want to keep one furever b/c I have my Holly BUT I have 4 1/2 acres and I can take care of one more. I just contact the rescue group in Pennsylvania?
Yep...and let them know your availablity. They may "screen" you, but I'm sure you've got the right stuff!
I say go for it. I foster for both bassets and OES, and the need for foster homes is always there.
There are all kinds of dogs, and all kinds of foster homes. A good, savvy coordinator will match the best pair for EACH individual home and dog.

For example, I usually take dogs with medical needs (I'm a nurse and lifetime dog and farm girl!) and those with behavior issues (I'm very dog experienced and train - they get to come to my classes for free....)

I don't take fosters that need a smaller pack or to be an "only" - as I have 5 of my own. I also can't take dogs that can't be with kids - mine are grown but my grandkids are always around.

Fostering is great.....and unlike Deb - i haven't kept one yet. Several have been tempting, but they have gone to wonderful homes and I've remained in contact with several over the years - like a big family. :D
Yup, just state your availability and run for cover

I don't think there's anything OES rescue needs more than foster homes. Thank you so much for considering doing this.

I don't know who really covers PA anymore. New England and NY Rescue/Madeline both cover the area to some extent, in addition to Chris Gaburri in the Pittsurgh area. Where's Cindy when you need her? 8)

You can always check the NEOESR list for PA contact info: http://www.neoesr.org/oes-nat.htm

Bravo! :clappurple:

Thanks for stepping up to volunteer your services. As mentioned, foster homes are the single biggest need in rescue work. I am sure your local rescue group will be happy to have you. :D
I wrote to Chris in Pittsburgh and I am waiting for a reply. Thanks for all your encouragement I will keep you guys posted :D
