we finally met another OES

At the dog park today we met Carolina, a lovely OES girl. This is our first OES sighting, although I think Hnery knows one from doggy day care that I have never met. Henry and Carolina seemed completely uninterested in each other but her owner and I compared notes. Such fun for me.

Isn't that exciting? LOL I act like it's Christmas when I see another oes. LOL
Meeting another OES is so exciting! I love the name Carolina - that's very pretty! I hope you told her about the forum!

Hi,

It's funny isn't it as even if we ourselves have sheepies it's such a thrill to see another one! I guess there are not that common and it's great to be able to swap antics and stories with their uprights.

I think Carolina is a nice name too and Henry was just playing hard to get. :D Maybe he was trying to be cool?

I noticed that the AKC posted the most popular dogs and I could not find a sheepdog on that listing of about 30 or so dogs. No wonder we get so excited when we see another in our area! I wouldn't have any other dog. They don't know what they're missing. I know that when I walk my dog around the neighborhood Blue Star gets alot of attention. Some people have never seen a Sheepie up close. I hope I'm able to attend one of the picnics that everyone talks about. Having so many bobtails in one place will absolutely amazing.

I get so excited when I see OES too! Brad and I went to TN for Valentine's day and we saw one at the dog park! O_o We were over there in a heart beat talking to the owners.

I've never actually seen one run in person before (all the ones we've seen just walked or took naps). No wonder sheep do what they say... lots of presence! And I love that bear-like walking... so cute!

(Still can't wait to get hers!)
At the doggy daycare where Truman goes every other Thursday, there are two other OES! They have a web cam and he was playling with them!! Cool!
I used to see a couple when I groomed pets, but I haven't seen one since I left the job 6 years ago (well, until Japser lol). I wish we could fine one...I'd love to get Jasper a sheepie friend.
Jamie and I have been known to pull over the car if we see one out walking with his or her upright. We usually make a play date for the dogs at the park. I have no idea why we do this. It's not like Farley and Abby don't already have enough friends.

Hmmm - maybe it's not about the dogs - but like Marianne said - it's about the parents getting together to compare notes. :)
We do that too.. or at least we've been trying to!
There are 3 OES in the town I live in, including my two...lol... and the other belongs to a very good friend, so we do get together occasionally.
There are 2 others in nearby towns, one of which I met once in a parking lot at Tim Hortons, and was so excited to meet her! The other is a 2 year old male from the same breeder as mine, and we have been trying to make plans to get together since summer, but it just hasn't worked out with our schedules. Hopefully soon! :)
I've never seen another one in L.A. but I thought there was someone on this board from the area? I can't recall, but if you're out there - please speak up! I'd love to join up at the dog park once Spike is old enough to go there.
I always thought that my husband was pretty calm and cool when it came to the dogs. He is known to have his periodic bouts of private talk with our dogs but that usually just involves formulating some plan to get in trouble. I never thought he had it in him to get as excited as most of the people here do about seeing other sheepdogs. Well was I wrong!

I work nights so, I sleep during the day. (Simple logic you would think!) I was awoken today by a frantic phone call from my husband. He starts by yelling, "get up, get up!" After pole vaulting out of bed, he tells me to look out the window. Apparently there was a lady walking a sheepdog through our neighborhood. After he had accosted her for about 10 minutes, he decided that I needed to know about the whole thing even though the lady was already 5 blocks away!
It's great to see that your hubby has been smitten! I hope he exchanged phone numbers, emails or the address for oes.org! ;)

I usually carry "business cards" for such encounters. They have my name, phone number and, of course, the website on them!

Since I had no dog, I've not been carrying them for the last year. However, even without a having a sheepdog with me under tow, I ran into situations where I wanted to share oes.org or the rescue story with people.

OF COURSE NOW THAT I HAVE MULLIGAN I NEED THEM ALL THE TIME!

I just printed up another 20 of'em yesterday.
Gee Ron, sorry to hear you don't have one at the present time; we need to find one for you. :D

I know there are a number of OES in the St. Louis area; I trying to come up with an idea of drumming up interest in forming an OES club but don't know how to get the word out. Any one have any ideas?
Ron and Joan have had Mulligan for several months now, I believe he was referring to when he didn't have a dog after their beloved Jake went to the bridge.
Yeah, that was pretty stupid of me..... I went back and fixed it.
