What does a "Puppy Cut" look like? Help!

Hi everyone. We're taking our 1.5 year old OES for a furcut, as we don't show her and it's getting too hot for her with all that fur (this will be her third cut ). I never know what to tell the groomers, so I'm wondering about this puppy cut thing, what exactly does it look like? I'm assuming they would know what it is and could do it if I request it, but I don't know if that's what we want, because I've never been given a good explanation of what a puppy cut looks like.

Does anyone have any pics to show me what a puppy cut looks like?

Thanks so much!

Here's a picture of Isaac in a puppy cut. It's about 2"-21/2" all the way around. Your dog should be mat free if you expect a groomer to do a puppy cut.

I ALWAYS want at least 2" all around and MAKE them, BUT... from my experience for both maltese and oes, puppycuts are shorter than that b/c most groomers I run into will say they don't have 2" guards or some other lame excuse since they hate scissor cutting. Again in my experience, groomers tend to do it 1-1.5" all around unless you specify more or they're just experienced then they usually do the legs a little longer by an inch or so.
Groomers argue what a "puppy cut" actually is for various breeds. Find a photograph of what you're looking for and show it to your groomer. Be sure to specify what you expect, such as not to shave to the skin, etc.. If there is any question, have them phone you before doing anything you'll both regret. 8O

Tonks and Luna are going in for their summer cuts at the end of this week, and are severely matted (remember them rolling around at Sheepie Palooza? All the water and the wrestling? Its now all mats). So I'm figuring our groomer may have to just shave down, and am bracing myself for it.
Here's Foz in puppy cuts. He's 3 yrs old and always looks like a puppy. Please click on my camera icon to check on more. Both my buys are in puppy cuts.

I think Stacy's is the best example of what it should look like... just my personal opinion tho... I prefer it all evenly done, I think they look stupid with tons left on the head and shorter everywhere else and I don't usually like the fur left longer on the legs because it's too schnauzer-ish and makes them look really leggy.
It's your dog tho, you can pick whatever look you want :) Then you just have to cross your fingers and hope the groomer can actually do it, not many have much experience with oes.

As someone mentioned tho, your dog has to be completely mat free and brushed out if you want fur left on. If the dog is matted it's kinder to shave to the skin and start over, within 4 to 6 weeks you'll have the puppy cut look anyway as it grows out.
I like the look with slightly flared parts at the bottom of the legs. I think it might have been Laika who just got cut like that? (spacegirl21's older sheepie) but it's up to you. I guess you just need to take them some pics.

That's me I love the bellbottoms! I think she looks like a Clydesdale horse when she walks.
SUPER cute! Luna was done today, and she does not look cute, but she looks cool. We have an even 1/2 inch of fur everywhere, and her head was left normal. I wish they'd have at least neatened her head up. I'm going to try it myself after lunch....

Thank you for all the pictures, everyone's so cute!!

About the mats, sigh, she does have mats so I guess the puppy cut is out. We had our first baby 4 months ago (a girl!), right after Sunny got a very short fur cut (about half an inch, maybe, yikes, crazy groomer!). So while she got lots of love and walks, we slacked a bit on the grooming amidst the baby craziness. But, she's not jealous of the baby, so at least that's good. I guess we'll have to get her shaved and start from scratch. It's too bad, she's so cute with floofy fur. I feel terrible, but the baby was colicky, and wouldn't let me set her down for even a second for 2 and a half months. Not a big deal because I enjoyed holding her, but Sunny's fur got the short end of the stick. :(

Thanks again for the photos, I will go to the groomer armed with an example of what we want, even if it's for the next furcut.
Hey, congrats on the baby! Of course you had to look after the new arrival- I think most people have their sheepie shaved or cut short when they are expecting, who the h*ck has time for grooming with a new baby in the house??!! At least you have a plan of action. I'm sure she won't mind being shaved again! :D
I looked through all the pictures on here and found one i liked and took it to the groomers and said thats what I want George to look like, and he did pretty much!
