CO vacation with the dogs

We are planning on a vacation to CO Durango area and I have heard CO is a very pet/dog friendly state. For a poriton of our stay we will be heading over to the Grand Canyon. We are tying to figure out if we could board in CO for a few days or board here at home for the whole trip.

We are staying with friends so we know the dogs are fine with us - but can we take them on hikes in that area?

Also can anyone recommend a good kennel in that area if we go this route?

I would check on the internet for places to board in the Durango area. I can never make it past Telluride, love that place. It is a very friendly dog state, but not familiar with Durango area on the boarding.
