Sugar in Colorado

We have a beautiful little girl coming in from New Mexico. She is hearing impaired, not sure if she is completely or partially deaf. I do know she is a beauty. Notes from her Mom are below;

Permission to cross post from CO OES

My name is Olivia Carver and I was given your contact information by the Texas OES rescue. About a year ago I rescued a 6 month old substantially deaf OES from its owner who was going to have her put down. I could not stand to see a perfectly healthy dog put to sleep simply because she is deaf. However, in the last year, I have been unable to handle her or find a suitable home for her. I have two small children with which she is fairly aggressive and we are currently expecting our third child in June and fear that she will be a problem. She loves other dogs, but seems to get startled easily by kids and acts out aggressively. I cannot find anyone to train her, so no one wants to adopt her. I know I cannot keep her, but I want her to go to a good home where she can get the attention, training and love she deserves and needs. I was hoping that you may be able to assist me in finding her a home where she will not be in jeopardy of abuse or neglect due to her disability.

Here are a few pictures of Sugar. She is pretty dirty.....we live out in the country and we flood irrigate. This time of year she is so hot she loves to run around and play in the cold irrigation water! It was last summer about this time when we rescued her and I had her shaved because she was so hot. I plan to do the same again in the next day or so unless you think I shouldn't. It's just been in the upper 90's and even with the misters on outside, she is pretty warm. Thank you both again for all of your help. Hopefully we can work something out for Sugar.

I'm soooo glad this girl is going to Colorado. With this face she would be staying with us if she came through Utah.

Sugar was lucky to be saved by Olivia, now I hope we can find her a furever home that understands her disability.

Good luck Sugar! What a sweet face she has
I'm so glad we don't live in the UK or USA, I know the house would be packed to the brim with rescues by now
Sugar sure looks like a sweetie ,hoping she has the best of luck in finding her 4everhome
I think this should be moved to "Dogs in Trouble".

The young lady caring for Sugar is trying to do her best for the dog. She decided to keep Sugar at her home until a permanent home is found. Her intentions are good, but misguided. Sugar has had 5 homes in her 2 years, living with the current owner for the last year. The reason is, none of them knew how to train a deaf dog. The current owner feels Sugar should stay with them to avoid an interim move through a foster home. Pat at SW Rescue in Arizona has offered to take Sugar as a foster in her home, and the owner has refused.

Poor Sugar is left outdoors with little or no people time, because she lacks training and can't be around the family and kids. If anyone is interested in a special needs girl, that just needs love and training, PLEASE, PLEASE contact CO Rescue. This girl needs her own people and couch to sleep on.
 Why oh why would the current owner not let her go to a foster home?? foster homes are second to none when it comes to evaluating, loving, and caring for our babies in need.

By the sound of it she needs out now, can the owner not be persuaded that it is in the very best interest for SUGAR?

omgosh.. im in lovee..... i always tell myself to stay away from this section but i find myself coming back to this posting. sigh

poor sugar
Why doesn't the owner get the deaf dog training offered by Acoma kennels in Albuquerque? Oh, maybe she doesn't live there.
Are there any updates on this girl?

I know the current owner's intentions are good but what needs to be explained is that Sugar's continuing to live in limbo until she's given to someone who has the knowledge to train her. She can't improve without it. This post is now over a month old and in that period of time, Sugar could have already learned a lot. Is she still living outdoors in the heat?

If Sugar can get into a good OES rescue or devoted home, they can begin to teach her how to live indoors with humans and begin to work on reducing her startle reflex. Dogs with disabilities can be just a little more quirky but I think a lot of us agree that they're "just dogs"... no pity, just finding ways to make it work.
Best wishes and good luck to Sugar. She is an adorable girl! :D
I have a huge soft spot for the deaf ones...
I hope this gal is okay....having adopted an older deaf oes
the startle effect was a big issue since she had never been
handled much!
My two deaf young ones would sleep through a hurricane
(I am hoping living on the coast)
When I pet them to wake them up they stretch!
The longer they are not trained to the surroundings the harder it is.

How is Sugar??
Hello:

I have a completely deaf sheepie that I trained to respond to hand signs, laser light and vibrations. I'd love to have another (I have three hearing sheepies also)

If someone can bring her to the California border, I can pick her up and will provide her with a fur ever home by the Pacific Ocean in cool Half Moon Bay, California.

Please let me know.... :D
Oooh!
It's so wonderful to see you again :D
How is the baby that used to be known as Hush Puppy?

Please, can someone work out transport?
Molly, my deaf sheepie has grown to a little over 60 pounds and is a bundle of perpetual energy (why is youth wasted on the young?). She is a delight and has learned to adapt in her world of silence (maybe she has just trained me...)
At any rate, life here is better now and there is always room for one more 'special needs' sheepie.
Cheers
Awwww. The update makes me smile. :D
Thank you!

I wrote to see if Joe can provide any information on Sugar.
I'll let you know what I hear.
Wouldn't this be great for Sugar????
Good Luck!
Sugar is still with the same person that did not want to send her to a foster home. This would be a perfect scenario for her.

Bette Green has the owner information. She can be contacted through Colorado OES rescue.

I'll help with a leg of transport if it comes through Utah. I hope this works for beautiful little Sugar.

I could probably handle a Colorado to Utah leg depending on where she is in Colorado and where you are in Utah.
Oh, that's wonderful news. :D
Not that she didn't find a home yet but these wonderful offers to help.

Joe wrote last night that he was going to check into her status...
I'll send him this update!
:plead: :plead: :plead: :plead:
Hoping this goes well.
