BEHAVIOR IN GENERAL

My first question to you long time (or new) OES owners is: is it possible to complete train proper house behavior if not everyone in the house steps up to the plate to help with the proper corrections. example: to get them to behave properly when someone comes through the door. Not to jump on people and to be somewhat calm. Also: This is a larger breed and I realize it is up to us to keep things put up, but is there a way to break them from getting up on things such as wall units and such. The stearn "NO" does not seem to be working. HELP please.

Yes :?:

How old is your dog etc.

I have two and they never touch a thing - but they are 3+ years old and have some serious obedience training. I also never leave them unattended. When we are out they are confined to seperate dog proofed rooms. And I have to say i pretty much trained them on my own at home (worked with trainers at class) my husband is only learning the importance of consistency now that he has his own young dog.
She is almost 18 mos. She also is in her crate when we are not in the house with her. She does her antics when I am busy moving throughout the house doing chores, getting ready for work in am, etc. I am sure she does it for attention or is bored (even though she has tons of toys).
I have the same we all 3. Jumping at hubby when he comes home. I told him to stay away for a few min till they calm down but NO he has to pet them. :x He works against me. I guess I have to train him first.LOL

If she isn't tired she will be looking for attention. WHile not all of them need to have something to do - unless you call keeping the couch on the floor a job - they do need activity and stimulation.

DO you two have any interactive activities? Tiring them out with 5 minutes of obedience or other training int he morning can go a long way, especiallym when you do even more at night, mental stimulation is more important than physical activity.
The jumping up on people thing can be hard. Edgar never jumps up on us when we come in the door. But when other people come its hard because they don't follow the same rules that we have so they have trained the bad habit into him.

If we don't have a hold on him to make sure he is sitting or standing when people come in (so he is not jumping) until he calms down then we will sometimes put him away for the first part. Then we will let him out after the people have been in for a while and he has calmed down some.
