Scary sheepie escape for my parents

My mom was getting ready for work yesterday and my dad was doing something in his office. He had let Abby out into the yard as usual, where he lets her run around by herself for a while. They have a completely safe and fenced in yard.

So my mom is in the house and hears a screech of tires and she said she had a feeling and just 'knew' it was b/c of Abby. So she runs outside and sees Abby taking off up the middle of the street. A neighbor walking their dog said they saw her down the street and around the corner. They don't know how long she'd been out running around, but she has absolutely no fear of cars...if anything she prefers to chase them.

Luckily nothing happened to her and my parents collected her again, but they were scared. Apparently (and this part is scary too) my dad has been putting a latch on the side fence for extra security. It was taken off and the gate was wide open...and a side screen door was wide open too. So apparently someone that night had been trying to get into my parents house 8O

that is scary! Glad she's safe again.

As a side note, Roofus is quite adept at opening doors - sliding ones, ones with knobs... around our house, the only safe door is a locked one!
SCAAAAAAARY! I'm glad all is well!
very scary

it a times like this that i'm glad einy never takes him self off if hes got out and you can't find him you just go the front door and there he is waiting to be let back in.

i'm glad that abby is ok and also glad that they didn't acctually get in your parents house.

zoe and einy
That made my heart stop. Glad everything turned out well, but very scary.
Yikes! 8O SO glad Abby is okay, and that your parents' house is safe! Scary, scary, scary!

Do your parents have an alarm system for their house? When break-ins got too close to here, we had one installed. Best thing we ever did!
8O I'm so happy Abby is safe!

Anymore garden gates need locks, not just latches. May be inconvenient, but to keep pup safe and keep out unwelcomes, a little inconvenience isn't so bad. I'm sure neighbors think us unsocial as our front gate is chained and locked, but I've got dogs to protect!!
Very scary. We always kept a padlock on our gate in Phoenix just for that reason. That way if someone wanted to break in it would deter the opportunist thief. Also to make sure the gate would never be left open by someone for Edgar to escape. I'm glad nothing worse happened.
Yeah, they live in a nice neighborhood, so it didn't seem necessary to have a full-on lock in place. Just a nice, secure latch thing. But I'm sure they'll invest in a padlock.

I can only imagine how scary it would be to see your sheepie running uncontrollably up the street (well, uncontrollably until they called her back to them).
How frightening! 8O

Thank goodness Abby is safe and no one got in the house.
How Scary!  Glad all is well--an incident like that just makes you feel so vulnerable--
So glad, everything turned out OK.
It would scare the daylights out of me, especially wondering about the open gates etc. 8O
That's very scary :( I'm glad everything turned out OK.
I'm really paranoid about people letting Bally out (accidentally or on purpose) so we keep the gate padlocked all the time. Bally can only go in and out of the house with the front door and I'm the only one with a padlock key (I don't trust my housemate  )
Oh my goodness! I'd freak out too! I'm so glad everything turned out okay, but wow, what a heart stopping few minutes that must've been!! :twitch:
Happy that all are okay and I would have been panic stricken
Not only is that super scary, how unsettling that someone was creeping around the yard.
Very scary.... the thought of a dog getting loose near cars and that someone was trying to get in.... *shivers*
I'm so glad everything is ok.
I know...I don't know which part is scarier to me, lol. And an interesting thing was I went to visit them about a month ago and I SWORE I heard the back screen door open one night (the back door is attached to the guest bedroom), which is the same door they found open that morning. Scary. Invasion is one of my biggest fears.

I just hope they can teach her to ignore cars a little better. But I'm sure it's a whole different story how she'll react while on leash with them versus running free on her own...
scary! I am so thankful that I bought my house well off the road. I am two dirt roads away from the main road. Almost 2 km away. The roads are so full of potholes that no one drives very fast on the dirt ones.
:clappurple: Glad Abby is safe! I've been looking at my back gate, thinking that I need to put another latch on it farther down. I will get on it this weekend! 8)
