First day out of the crate and home alone day!

Today is Riley's first day out of the crate and home alone day! She will be 6 months tomorrow, so it's probably a little early but she really seems to be ready for it. We have been gradually working up to longer periods of time out of her crate home alone. She hasn't even slept in her crate for over a week now! So wish us luck!

Then tonight she is graduating from puppy class! She really is learning really fast and is a very well behaved puppy!

So wish us luck!

Good luck! will be looking forward to the update of how she did today.
Good luck :D
Just to warn you, they can do good for several days. Then one day, it's like a little gremlin has possessed them, and they have gotten into all sorts of trouble.......

congrats on the upcoming graduation tonight too :D

SO TRUE.
When we had Flannigan he was almost a year and were letting him out like you did.

After 6 months out of the crate and nothing happening, we can home one afternoon to find he had ripped my sofa apart. Could not be repaired. So watch it...
Well hopefully she won't turn into an animal at some point down the road! She has never chewed anything other than her toys so hopefully we won't have that problem. Thanks for the advice though!
they do go through a chewing stage - right around 8 months if I rememebr correctly - mine had never chewed anything before that.

Good luck, but personally I don't think it is safe for a young dog to be uncrated or unconfined during the day. We have a 16 month old Newf who is crated during the day (HUGE crate) and our three other dogs are confined in various "safe" rooms.
Aww bless! Congrats to her (and you!) and I hope she is a good little girl today!
She is out of the crate but she does not have free roam of the entire house. She can only get into a few of the rooms. We have doors closed to some rooms and a gate into another room so she is not completely unconfined to the whole house. I do understand what you are saying though.... She does fine at night so hopefully during the day will be the same story. We started leaving her out for an hour at a time alone and then gradually worked our way up. I guess I will find out in about an hour if this was a good move or not!
OH!!! You must be sooo proud!!!!

My 3 are confined to the kitchen, family room by a baby gate. It works for me...except if I leave the paper towels close enough for Heart to jump and grab....then...paper towel snow ALL over the place....
((that is when I grab that dang newspaper, and run around the room, hitting myself on the head!!!!!! )))  :roses: :roses: :roses:

GOOD LUCK...Keep us posted!!!!!!!! :crossed: :crossed: :crossed:
Summer is like a little angel except if...
1. she can reach a tea towel in the kitchen.

2. she can reach the tissue box in the kitchen.

3. Someone has left the loo door open and she can reach the toilet roll!

4. If someone puts a leaflet through the door.

5. if the baby gate is not closed and she can get in the bedrooms....OMG....

6. it is worth counter surfing.

etc etc etc. add to this scenario one yorkie who can wind a sheepie up something awful and you get mischief!
Riley also definitely loves anything made of paper! toilet paper, paper towels, newspapers, paper in general. That seems to be the only thing that she gets into that she shouldn't. needless to say we have checked the entire house and put away anything made of paper that she would love to tear apart!!
I went upstairs one day to find her in the hallway with the entire roll of toilet paper unrolled into the hallway.... and it was all still attached to the roll by the way!! She seemed to be having a great time though! :D
Good luck!! Hope all went well. :crossed:
Chauncey was great at this age, well........except for a relatively short period when he would get a taste for the throw pillows on the sofa  The good thing is they are the envelope style and he didn't damage the cover only the stuffing.
BTW: He'd try to sneak one while we were home also
Three years old, left loose for almost two years now.

Walked upstairs to find my videocamera on my bed <her favorite snacking spot> , stolen off the kitchen counter, out of it's carrying case!!! Miraculously still in one piece.

Off to find some newspapers to slap myself over the head with.

Hope you had better luck

Kristine
well we made it through the first day of her being home alone! She had NO accidents and everything in the house was still in place.... well except for every single toy she decided to take out of her box and throw around the house! So we are very proud and happy with how her first day went! Hopefully it will continue to stay this way
Good news!

bravo!! what a good girl :)

our pup is 14 months old and we still worry about what the house is going to look like when we get back from a 5+ hour 'out of the house' day. i hope your little girl decides it's fun to be good and stays that way!
We've been letting our two out for increasingly longer times. This morning, my wife decided that she'd leave them both out and see what happens. Bentley is five y/o and is a model citizen. Zoey is just one year and not even a model inmate. I asked her if she walked around the house on her hands and knees to see the house like they do and she claims she did. I haven't gotten any freak-out calls yet, so I'm guessing it's all good.

Congrats adamandamy! Let's hope the well-mannered wins out.

Vance
Yay!!!!! Way to go!! Congrats!!

Sunny just spent her first night out of the kennel this week. It went well too, isn't it so exciting to look around and see that nothing was destroyed?!!

I just posted about Sunny's adventure, should have read more and would have found your post- I could have just added to it rather than starting another one. whoops.
