Suggestions?

Hi everyone,

I am looking for a proper comb/brush to be able to brush my soon-to-be OES (We get her in two weeks and I'm just trying to find one to be prepared). I have searched the forums and I've seen many topics about people suggesting different combs and just giving their opinion, but could someone offer a little more guidance?

Are there any differences between getting a brush versus a comb? And there are many different types of combs, as well... How fine of a comb would I want for a typical OES? And what is the one comb that has two different length threads on it used for? And what is stripping? My OES will not be a show dog so I am just looking for a general brush/comb... but everyone has suggested in other topics different brands and types of brushes/combs so I just am confused as to what I may possibly need!

Thanks everyone :)

Where do you live?
That will determine what brushes are available to you. Different brands in different countries.
When Kirby has his long hair, we have used what was called a rake. WE found it in a store that had a lot of farm like items. It did work for him, it did not pull like a comb but did a better job than most brushes. I don't know the brand name. It was specially designed for long haired dogs.
Being brushed is still not one of his favorite things. It always worked best when he was sleepy, otherwise he thinks it is just play time again.
Enjoy your puppy, they are great!

I live in Ocean City, NJ... so it doesn't get extremely hot and never extremely cold (if that matters.. I'm assuming you just meant what country though... so it would be the United States obviously).

And I also saw a rake type brush too.. I just am confused with all the different types of brushes/combs and they all have slight variations.
Basic grooming equipment for an OES.

Good pair of scissors
Pin brush (straight pins not the ones with those little balls at the end)
Water misting bottle
Comb, both wide tooth and finer for beards, in metal, for knot breaking and inbetween the arm pits and toes on their paws etc and tight spots, especially while coat changing when the matt fairies breed.

In the mist bottle, some water with a few drops of conditioner or other type of grooming spray, always good to mist coat regardless of age and transition while grooming.

At the top of this part of the forum is a line grooming essay done by Carl Lindon, advise you look at it to get an idea of what your in for with grooming an OES.

Practice makes perfect :D
