Rawhide for Puppies?

I've heard mixed things about giving dogs rawhide and I was just wondering what some of you might think. I have a 7-year-old bearded collie, Lucy, that has never been into toys so rawhide bones became toys to her. But, now Clyde, my 5 month old OES, sees her with these and wants them too. Both of them will sit for hours quietly working on their bones and they seem to love it. Is it ok to give him rawhide at such a young age? Lucy's never had a problem but Clyde's too young for me to make any assumptions. The few bones that I've given him so far were a good size so I was sure he wouldn't choke or eat a piece too big. Everything seems to be fine but is it ok for his digestive tract or his other inside parts? Any thoughts?

I think it would be ok as long as you supervise him to make sure he doesn't swallow any peices that he can't safely digest. With my girls I give them pressed rawhide chew sticks, which I buy in bulk. The pressed rawhide takes longer to get gummy and have peices ripped off. I take it away and give them a new one when it gets soft.
And by the way, welcome to the forum! :)
Welcome! I agree - give the pup a Rawhide and supervise him. Some dogs have no problems with them. You just don't want him to swallow it whole (or even large peices) because it could cause a blockage. However, - you can say this about anything - you have to always be supervising them.

Look forward to seeing pictures of Lucy and Clyde.

Thanks! I've been watching him pretty closely and he seems to have no problems with any kind of rawhide but I wanted to be sure that someone else didn't know something I didn't. I don't think I'll ever have to worry about pieces getting too small because Lucy never lets him get that far. She always finishes her bones first and she waits until Clyde loses interest in his and promptly grabs it. Or she'll just go over and grab it and then it becomes a game that they both seem to love :)
