Philadelphia Area Picnic Date!

I have made the reservations at Fort Washington State Park for our 3rd Annual Picnic! The date is Saturday, May 14. Everyone is welcome and OES wannabes are invited! The park is easy to reach, just off the Pa Turnpike at the Fort Washington interchange. It is a covered pavillion with a grill, running water, and clean bathrooms across the way. It is really a nice, dog-friendly park, so make plans to join us! We usually ask each family to bring what they like to eat, and a dessert to share. That has worked well in the past. The grill is a charcoal grill, and I will bring the stuff for that: cooking tools and charcoal, etc. E- mail me off-list so that I can get an idea of who plans to attend. Last year I think there were 16 sheepies!
Hope to see you all, so MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

If Pooh can stand the car for the trip without getting car sick by then, count us in! So that's 1 almost sheepie!
I hope you and Pooh can make it! Have you tried to take him on short rides and increase the duration slowly over time? I hear this works.
your OES reminded me of Ron's. I thought you were his wife posting w/an updated pic or something at first.

Josh - have you tried Rescue Remedy? Also - I've heard that they do better "secure" in the car - depending on your vehicle - maybe in a crate. I may have to make the trip if cutie patootie Pooh is going to be there! LOL

Kristen
I would love to go too.... PA is about 9 hours I think... hmmmm... May huh?
Dang, Philly is 9 hours away from me too. Might be time for a long weekend, though.

J
When I was a kid, my parents moved several times between PA and OK. I believe they said if you drove straight through it was 26 hours of driving. I would love to go, but 2 kids and 2 big sheepies seems like I would have half of my hair missing before I arrived. LOL
I hope to hear about all it though, and to see LOTS of pictures! :D

Stormi and co.
I'd really love to meet you guys - and mid May here is lovely. What is a
nine hour drive really - pretend it's a work day maybe it won't seem so
long. Great area to have a long weekend!

We will be there for sure. Can't wait to see you all and the sheepies too!
Well I've done a 6 hour drive with 3 kids and 4 dogs before... so maybe it wouldn't be too bad...lol
Carl and Norman are so excited that they want to leave already!
Sounds like fun! We'd love to come and meet a lot of the people we "talk" to on the forum.

It's on my calendar!

Chris
That does it. I just requested Friday the 13th off! Luckily, Belle loves road trips.

Jil
WOW! This is sure to be the biggest turn-out yet! Last year we had about 18 sheepies (nearlies are welcome too!). I will send out directions soon. It is easy from the Turnpike. Thanks to all who are interested in attending, I am SO excited by the responses! Chad chad_roeger@verizon.net :D Please E-mail me directly so I can keep the e-mail list up to date!
Me and Dudley went last year with my mum. We had a really good time, and I'm trying to convince her to come with her yorkie mix and me and Duds this year! :-) My mum lives in the same town as Maria, Moe, and Gilbert.

Maybe if Ron sees this thread, he can post the group photo of the folks that came last year. <wink wink>

~Katie & Dudley. :-)
Frank might be a little loopy from all the Dramamine I'm gonna load him up with to get there (just kidding) but we'll be there too.

Thanks for all of your organizational effort!
Sorry to say, we won't be able to make it now. We have to go to a combined wedding shower...aka engagement party...even though I agreed to the picnic, the wife has a different idea about both of us going....maybe next year!
Let Pooh go by himself. He is old enough.
Josh, there will be a lot of disappointed people there who expected to see Pooh! Oh, well - maybe by next year you will have him over his car-sickness!
Chris
Bummer! Belle & I were looking forward to meeting you & Pooh.

Jil
Sorry to hear that you and Pooh will not be able to attend, hopefully you can make it next year. I do plan to keep trying to keep this picnic going as an annual event. This year seems to be drawing more interest than previous years, I'll bet we top 30 OES easily! :D
Awww..I was looking forward to seeing Pooh too. Well I'm still coming with my puppy. :D
Hey everyone! We are getting closer to our May Picnic, and so far I count about 39 OES/Mostlies! Plus "wannabe's" are welcome too! 39 sheepies is one big pack of wigglebutts! I encourage more folks to join us and get in on the fun! Imagine what it is going to be like getting a group picture! I will be working on directions soon. People who are not sure about coming because of not knowing the area, my directions will be very good. I drive the route and transcribe landmarks to a voice recorder, and then put it in writing. I hate getting lost too! Join us!
*sitting here so unhappy, thinking about how much fun you will have*
I think I'm gonna need extra batteries for my camera!

Jil
Mental List
• Batteries for camera
• Water bowl
• Water for in water bowl
• Poop bags
• Yummy food to eat
• Smiles
• Jacket (in case it is cool - it was nice and warm last year, but the site has lots of shady places)
Bring chairs because there will not be enough picnic benches for the WONDERFUL turn out this year! Also, bring umbrellas. because it never rains if you bring an umbrella! There is drinking water available in the pavilion, so that is one less thing to carry.
 I wish I could go, please take tons of pictures for those less fortunate than you  . Daisy and the boys feel left out so I told them we could go next year.
If anyone needs directions, please let me know. They are easy to follow, especially from the Turnpike. See you all soon!
Chad, we need directions from when you get off the tunpike to the picnic site. Thanks, Can't wait to meet everyone :!: Lorie
I still want to come, but we'll be a little late because I recently found out the 14th is the last day of one of my classes. Blah. Is there a time when it starts?
We are starting around 11, but people will be arriving at different times, as there schedules permit.
I'm so excited that I feel like leaving now!
Me too!
Dudley will be sponsoring "Rides for Rescue" at the Picnic next weekend. For a small donation, Duds will give rides to kids and his sheepie friends! :-) Half of the proceeds will benefit NEOESR and the other half will go to the OES Rescue Network.

Check it out! (click here for photo)

~Katie & Dudley.
PS. We will also be doing Rides for Rescue at the NEOESR picnic in June, in case you miss us this time around.
I'll be there in spirit but I hope everyone has a GREAT time and a safe trip. And take lots of pictures please!!!!
Wish we could come, too!! I know you'll have so much fun!!
Hi.

Well I finally found a nice 13 month old male OES to adopt :D . He's located about 30 miles west of Philadelphia. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to help in a relay to get him closer to the Canadian border. I live in Ottawa, Ontario and am only a few hours from the border.

I won't be able to attend the picnic but unless I can have him transported before that weekend, it would be great if someone attending the picnic would be able to help out on their way back.

Here's a link to see him.

Thanks for your help and I hope that this works out. :)

Uncle Pete :D
So as it turns out, the wedding shower we are going to is in south Jersey, so we'll be fairly close to Philly, but alas, Pooh will be at his grandparents for the night.....maybe we can stop over and meet everyone without the pooch.....
Excellent idea Josh!

I'll tell Belle to expect more belly rubs. :)

Jil
We can't wait, especially to see how Baxter Wigglebum acts around his relatives.
Hi,

I'm a new user and have no idea what I'm doing! I just love reading about everybody's babies! We have a 1 1/2 yr old male named OTTO; we just got him from a private owner in November 2005.

I can't believe I won't be able to make the picnic this year; do you typically send out announcements?
Hi :D

If that many sheepies will be at the picnic, I think this may be a world record and someone should contact Guinnes, you never know, it might be the biggest group picture 8) .

http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/

David Letterman might be interested too  . Besides doing his stupid pet tricks, he might want to do sheepie smart tricks for a change  .

Uncle Pete :D
Contact Lester Holt from the today show!!!!!!!! Maybe he will come and you all can get some coverage?!?!?

Umm.......rain date? I'll repost this in a fresh post....
Awwwww man!!!!!

I really wish we could go now that the southwest picnic seems to be cancelled until further notice

Can I send you a carboard Saul so I can pretend I was there when I look at the pictures?
Send the cardboard Saul!!! We'll all take pictures with him and post them.

My husband's band played some campaign stops for President Bush and when his 'people' lost the pictures of all of us with the president, we recreated them with a cardboard cutout. Most people can't even tell! I'll have to see if I can find them...

And Josh, just tell your wife that you don't feel well and will be laying down/in the bathroom for a while. She won't miss you for 3 or 4 hours right?
For all those who are traveling to the picnic tomorrow -
Weather man says cloudy but warm high of 81.
Sounds like perfect weather for a picnic!

Shellie
Best Wishes for a wonderful Picnic today !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please post pictures soon ! :D
Well we were going to go but Odin still needs one last shot (Distemper I think) and the Vet said not to allow him around other dogs besides our Shepherd. I'm also at my last class right now and it wouldn't be done til 3, so even if we were still going we wouldn't be there till later and would probably miss a lot of you. Sorry guys, I really wanted to go! We'll definetly be there next year though. It's a beautiful day for a Sheepie picnic, and I hope everybody has fun! Btw, I'll be posting pictures of Odin later. (Finally) :D
Willow and I just got home from the Philadelphia Sheepies Picnic, and it was fantastic. We had such a great time meeting everyone and swapping sheepie stories. A special thanks to Chad and his family for putting it all together. I would say based on comments that I heard throughout the day, it was a BIG SUCCESS!!! I can't wait until next year. And I can't wait to see the pictures!

The Wiggle Bus made the trip down from up North. Seeing it and meeting those associated with it (human and canine) was an extra special treat.

I know Willow had a good time because she's already sound asleep and we've only been home for 20 minutes.

Ps. Hi Lori, Rick & Murphy!
There are a few picnic pics in the photo section. More are pending. Great to see everyone there!!!!
Well...I just have to say that we had a FANTASTIC time at the picnic. It was wonderful to meet so many other sheepie lovers! I always dreamed of having a sheepie since I was a little girl and when I saw so many at one time well lets just say - I was like a kid in a candy shop! After we arrived - we met a couple that actually live in our general neighborhood (almost around the block) from us!! Can you believe it!! What a small world!!

I was so pleased that my two babies did rather well for there first "big" event. Before Saturday....they had never been around so many "strangers" at once. Just the occasional "stranger" at the park...but never 39! Rosie was so comfy - she just curled up w/some one elses sheepie and started snoozing!! Max relaxed too! Thanks to Chad for organizing such a great time! And thanks for encouraging me to come too (I almost chickened out). I was so worried Max would flip. He's quite the NUT at home. But I was surprise at his behavior. It was very encouraging! There is hope for him :-)

I can't wait to see more pics.....BRING THEM ON!!!
Looks like everyone had a lot of fun! Hopefully we can have one in Canada someday soon... or one in the states that I can get to! :)

Connecticut?
Stacy, we're still talking about getting together in Michigan . . . .

J
I'll be near Windsor (hopefully) from July 1st till the 4th for the International Freedom Festival ( a celebration at the Windsor/Detroit border celebrating both Canada Day and Independance Day) and also near Windsor for a dog show in early September....
If nothing else pans out, Belle & I would still love to meet you guys.

I lead a boring life, chances are I won't be doing anything important either time you're in the area, LOL.

J
O.K. Jil, Miss Boring Life. The 2nd Annual Sheepiefest will be in October in the Chicago burbs. You are expected to attend. I need to meet Belle and Kayli.

Paula O.
Chicago you say?
I hope I can meet at least some of you someday.... it seems like I know so many of you already, it would be great to meet in person... things just aren't usually very close, and planning road trips is not exactly easy with kids and dogs...lol....
Maybe I'll have to plan something for just my girls and I.... of course, if there are puppies on the way by then I won't be able to go in September either....lol.... or maybe just bring Sky depending on timing....
Ha, Paula! Chicago it is! I just hope it's on a "good" weekend for me. October can be iffy work-wise. I'd already planned on it in my head.

Of course, Chicago's only a four-hour drive . . .

I didn't take Kayli to the Philly picnic, but Belle seemed to be pining for her, so I might have to take her to Chicago. Can you believe that Belle wouldn't eat until she was home & Kayli was back in the house? And then, of course, Miss Belle had to growl at her 3 times.

Jil
When and where is the Chicago event? My wife would probably welcome the concept of me leaving and taking the dog with me. Probably the kids too!
Chad, the last one was October 9 AND 10 - a 2-day event!

I didn't go because I had just gotten Belle two weeks prior to that and I didn't think she'd appreciate another long car ride.

J
Debcram (Pirate's mommy) is the offical planner of Chicago Sheepiefest. She's been MIA but I think she's on vacation. Anyway, last year it was a 2 day event but I think this year it will be only one day. It will be the same weekend as the local agility trials so you can watch sheepies go up the teetertotter and through the tunnel. It will probably be held in Wadsworth again, which is up north not real far from the Wisconsin border (close to Gurnee). Everyone is invited!
