well I assume you made it clear to him you were not happy? Assuming also it wasn't because he really needed to go out, or he is sick?

If its just he is comfortable now and trying to prove he is the big DOG you can only try to keep an eye on him and if he tries it again make it VERY clear that only goes on outside. I never had a male dog try it more than once or twice.
I made it VERY clear to him that this is a NO NO. The back door is open all day for them to go in and out as needed. So long as the weather holdes the door is open. If not, I let them out about 10 times a day. More then enough. Hope this is a one time deal.

Me neither. Do they give you that incredulous look when you let them know it ain't happening like: "What do you MEAN you don't want me to do this, you should be honored?"

For hard cases, stick a belly band or boy diaper on him. No fun marking if nothing get's marked, and in my neutered male's case he doesn't like feeling the wet against his body (I think) even momentarily so stopped immediately and has never resumed, even when several of his female relatives are in season and smell simply delicious.

I've sometimes used the same style doggy diaper for a few days on some of my fosters who aren't properly potty trained and/or submissive wet and every time I pull one out he runs for his life

Sounds like he wanted some attention - I guess he got some!

Somebody is checking to see who is still in charge..........I know you made it perfectly clear he is NOT the one. I like the belly band idea! 8) 8)
great idea belly bad!!! I wil watch and see.
This is the first time in 8 weeks. Once only when he came here. Thata I understood but still told him NO NO.
Is Bear just maturing?? If so and you are not planning on showing him I would suggest it is time to neuter. My perfectly trained boy just lifted his leg on a planter one day, had him neutered 2 days later and have never had another problem( he's 3 now). They do like to mark their territory when the hormones start to flow- it is natural.
Good luck

JOJO

He is fixed and has been for 3 yrs, He is 3 1/2 now.
And neutering only decreases marking in 50% of the males who mark. SInce not marking is easily trained or marking can be averted at least, the odds do not make it a good reason to neuter your dog considereing the health issues.
