Langley is he trained??

So Langley is 12 weeks old and hasn't had a mistake in a week. If I don't take him out he takes himself out to pee out the doggie door. Do they usually get it this young. I cannot remember with Laika but I do know I was fanatical about taking her out and she didn't have much for mistakes either. Am I fooling myself and thinking he figured it out?

What age did you puppy get it? survey says...

That sounds great :D
I would think having both Laika and the availability of a doggy door would make it easier for him to get it.

Just a thought- does anyone who has a doggy door know if the puppies do well when they are in a doggy-doorless situation?

For example - if you have one, and your puppy does well with it.
Then say you are going to spend the weekend at a friend/parents place, and they don't have a doggy door - how do they do? For a pup or younger dog, I can see where they might have a problem. They are used to going out frequently, whenever they need to go. I am assuming they don't develop a larger bladder capacity, as there has been no need to. They also don't need to "tell" you they have to go, as they just went out the doggy door....hmmm, anyone??
That's awesome if he has, though most pups don't even really have enough muscular control to know to hold it til 16 weeks or so....

That being said, Leo definitely lets us know he has to go out. When he needs to pee he sniffs, circles, whines and looks for newspaper and tends to head for a door, though I don't actually think he understands he should go outside. He just thinks there might be some paper out there to pee on
I did at first put a piece of paper on the lawn because I thought it might encourage him to go, and it did, but I only did that once and now he seems to look for it.

If we're not fast when the sniffing and circling starts tho, forget it, he pees... maybe its because Langley has a doggy door?
He also goes out because he can. He has taken to taking his toys out with him. I taught Laika to go out and bring them back.

I am wishing at times he didn't learn how to do it. (I didn't teach him) I didn't plan on it for a couple more months. Because now every time he goes out I have to stop what I am doing and watch him. I almost have it cover with patio stones. Get the rest this weekend. But there are rocks out there and he likes to put them in his mouth. Also along the edge of the kennel there is grass; the other day he managed to get a good snack out of that and threw up his supper. Raw isn't nice coming back up

So sometimes I hate he learned to go out.
