My first case of poison for the season

Ugh. Started mulcing the flower beds last Thursday and came in with a little dot on my right lower arm. Didn't know whether I had gotten bitten or stung by something (didn't feel anything bite me), just knew it was itchy and a bit watery. Never even gave poison a thought.

Fast forward to Sunday. The little spot grew MUCH bigger and spread to other parts of my right arm, with one or two small spots on my left arm. Itched and oozed like the devil, and I've never been good at ignoring an itch. Tried Witch Hazel, which alleviated the itching for short spurts but it would even wake me up at night. Started with Calamine lotion yesterday, which helped but still wore off. This morning I took a Benedryl and used the Calamine again and went to the drugstore to see what the pharmacist could suggest I use.

So now I'm using a spray called Ivy-Dry Super, which is supposed to relieve itching, dry the ooze and reduce the redness. Seems to be working so far, thankfully. :phew:

Hope this isn't an indication of things to come this summer. Some years I can get by with nothing, other years I get multiple bouts. A few years back I had poison FOUR times!! 8O Got to the point where I was afraid to even step outside!

Wish me luck - looks like I'll need it!

oh that's just terrible :( I hope you're starting to feel better soon :ghug:
Chris...maybe you need full-length gloves! 8)
Gloves and LONG sleeves
Hope it dries up soon.
Maybe you need Ginny's Dog walking outfit? :D I hope your rash clears up soon..if not GO TO THE DR!

Happy gardening. 8)
Oh I know how you feel!! I can walk across the street from it and still get it. I always seem to end up with it at least once a year. My husband, on the other hand, could roll naked in it and never get a single itch. Not fair!!
Ugh! Bless your heart! :hearts:

Robbie gets poison easily, too, and it's always just awful. I, on the other hand, *touch wood*, don't get it. Don't know why, just never have. But, I don't want to tempt fate either. :twitch: So, I steer clear when I see it. :sidestep:

Hope yours clears up quickly and you don't get it again all season!! :crossed:
I feel bad for you :( I usually get it every year. One year I burned it by mistake - I won't be doing that again
Hope it gets better soon.
I put bleach on my spots or Ephsom salts - it really burns but feels better
