May 15 Deadline - OESCA Breedwide Health Survey

The OESCA Health Survey ends May 15th. If you haven't entered your dogs yet, please don't delay. The survey questions cover any Old English Sheepdogs you've owned in the past ten years. The survey is open to all Old English Sheepdogs, registered or not, pedigree known, or not, no matter where in the world you live or where you acquired your sheepdog. It is equally critical that dogs who have not experienced any health issues are represented along with any issues you have to report.

Please go to http://www.oeshealth.org/HRCUpdates.htm ... althSurvey to read more about the purpose of the survey and why it's so important that we all participate, or http://www.keysurvey.com/survey/211252/2567/ to go directly to the survey. The survey is anonymous and very user-friendly. I entered all six of mine in less than 15 minutes.

After you're done entering your dogs (and thank you if you've already done so!), please take a moment to go through you address book and forward this to anyone with an OES. Permission to cross post is also granted. For those of you who breed and/or rescue, please contact people you've sold dogs to/placed dogs with and ask them to participate as well. It's critical to the OESCA Health & Research Committee's decision-making process that they know what health problems top the list of concerns in our breed as a whole so they can best decide what research to support.

Thanks so much,
Kristine Loland

Kristine, is there any way I can update our previously submitted info to include Rebecca's cancer since it was diagnosed after the fact?

when I asked about tracking they said they could make changes if you had registered an email address- other wise no. Don't know if that helps.

I asked cause I couldn't remember if I had done it or not - I hadn't

Deb, Kerry, you both asked this once before and I didn't get back to you, did I? Sorry about that.

There is supposed to be a way to go back in and do that, and I'm in the same situation, so give me a little time this afternoon to walk myself through it and then I'll share here in case others are in that situation too. If it doesn't work, I'll talk to Chris G and see how she wants to handle it.

Thanks so much for reminding me!!

Kristine
OK, this is what I did:

I went to http://www.keysurvey.com/survey/211252/2567/

Scroll to bottom for:
Please select an option that applies to you.

() This is the first time to this OES health survey.
(X) I would like to update information that I have previously submitted on a dog. (You will be directed to write in the comment box at the end of the survey the updated information for your dog)
() I have already answered the general demographic questions on a previous visit to this OES health survey and wish to enter data on another dog
.

I selected the second option and clicked continue.

You will see:

Old English Sheepdog Global Health Survey

South & Central America
Europe
British Isles
Asia
Africa
Australia & New Zealand

Gender:

Male
Female

Please write your dogs additional health problem or correction in the comment box.

A seven year old intact bitch I submitted data on last year has since been diagnosed with mammary cancer. She had surgery and is doing fine.

If you would like to receive a statistic report for this survey in July 2009, please provide us with your email information. Your responses to this survey are anonymous and not linked to your email address.

Would you like to add new information on another OES? You will be permitted to enter up to 5 dogs on this visit to the survey.

Yes
No

I re-entered my continent and the gender of the dog, plus added my comment (they will have to add that data by hand) plus selected, No, I didn't want to add another dog. And then I hit submit and got:

Old English Sheepdog Global Health Survey

Your input in this survey is important. On behalf of the Old English Sheepdog Club of America Health & Research committee, thank you for your participation

It's not perfect, because it won't correlate with her other data, such as what health screening was done (irrelevant in this case) or the fact that she had two litters. But it does get the mammary cancer case counted.

Of course, she's 8 and spayed now, but why confuse things further?   That data will be reflected in the next survey. She was 7 and intact when I entered the info, and also when she was diagnosed, so I opted to try to keep it as simple as I could.

Kristine
Someone else asked and used the method described above to update her dog, and it worked OK for her as well.

:rimshot: 16 days left till the survey closes. :rimshot:

Does anyone need any help with it for any reason? I'm meeting with a friend next weekend to help her with it, though it seems pretty easy and userfriendly to me. But maybe not...?

Kristine
My crew are entered.

Thanks, Wendy. Your efforts are much appreciated.

Kristine
Mine are too....
I entered all the dogs that were applicable, past and present.
Survey completed. :D
Did it ages ago with my mob, been printed in state breed club gazettes here also as well as on the international list, been bumped to the top to remind others world wide it is closing soon.

Hope you all get lots of responses not only locally but world wide, sent links to europe as well so I am keeping fingers crossed globally the response is full of data for the OESCA health committee to evaluate.

Look forward to down the track hearing the results of the global survey and what is health wise seems to be a priority in the breed.

Just want to say thanks also for OESCA health committee for undertaking this on behalf of all OES owners and breeders world wide. :D
You're all wonderful

I was up at breeder's and entered her dogs for her. As we went down the list of puppies/dogs she'd sold/placed I'd ask: did so-and-so enter so-and-so and she'd call the person and ask. One person complained, when she handed the phone to me, that he never hears from me EXCEPT to nag about these things (well, he's a nice person and didn't use that term exactly...  ) But it's true, I have been a nag about this survey.

It's amazing how many people near and dear to me STILL left it to the last minute, which means the next time I'm going to forego my obviously worthless "nagging" and simply hire a drill sergeant personality and give her a list of phone numbers to call. (hey, Judi - what are you doing five years from now? :sidestep:   )

For all of you who have participated already, thank you so much. For those of you who haven't, there's still time.

It ends on Friday, after which it will be years till the next one.
