Two Part Question please...

What state/country do you live in and how do you keep your OES's coat? (shaved, few inches, medium length, full coat?).

Puppycut is so vague, which is why I was hoping for a little more detail? :)

If you're not sure people are aware of the weather in your state, could you tell us first? Like I think we can safely assume we all know what the weather is like in Alaska. :)

Thanks!

I'm in Mississippi. It's a lot like Texas (noticed that's where you're from from avatar) - hot in winter, perfect in spring & fall, humid and VERY hot during the summer. Jasper is still just a baby, but we're hoping to keep his coat long. He's an inside dog, so he won't be outside for long periods of time. I dunno...I may be singng a different tune come July-August when it's 100+ here and give him a fluffy puppy cut.
Alabama here.
Albert is in full coat right now, as he is outside alot. Come summer though, I am definetely getting his hair cut very short.
Pennsylvania. Full coat. Hot, Humid summers. Cold, Snowy Winters.
There are plenty of military bases in this area, tell them to send you over here.
Hi,

I live on the west coast of Canada , we never or rarely get snow. At the moment our weather is a bit cool in the mornings and sunny in the afternoons. This year we experienced 4 days of snow!! A rarity in these parts as the weather is pretty mild here. I have crocus already blooming in my yard!!
I once commented however, that in the Pacific Northwest we claim we don't tan but rust. It rains a lot in the fall and winter. Our climate is just a bit cooler than California's.

Arg! You had to ask - Poor Merlin was in full coat until his visit to the doggie spa yesterday and was shaved right down. Boy is he mad at me!! He refused to get out from under the coffee table since he returned home. (My friend the groomer gave me this gift as a way of a thank you for a previous favor to her).

Panda is clipped short too (I've never seen him in full coat since his rescue) as I've had to get him clipped a few times since introducing a good diet and excercise. His hair is curly and rough unlike Merlin's. Still getting him used to grooming and each month he's improving.

Blue - only has his nails clipped.

Given a choice I love the full coats and really don't mind brushing even three dogs. Trouble is now with three of them in the house and it being muddy and raining outside I decided to get Merlin done. Next year I would love to have both Merlin and Panda in full coats. I already regret that I had Merlin done as I miss that shaggy coat. I always had Shaggy in full coat except the last year of her life to check for growing lumps.

All three are indoor dogs. In the summer when it's hot here they will be outside/inside as I always have the door open and they are free to choose. I have carpets upstairs and laminate flooring downstairs. Next year I hope to have most of the house done in laminate which makes a difference on whether they are clipped or not.

Marianne and the boys
I live near Maxmm - in PA. and real close to Fort Indiantown Gap.
I clip my sheepie boy down to about 3/4 inch every spring. Actually I am thinking about doing it a little earlier this year. I never thought I would do
this, but I actually looked at this nice dog "warmer" coat just in case it got
too cold after I shave him.
In the early summer I shave his belly to the skin. I think it really helps as it is really humid and hot here by about mid june.(great for belly rubbins)
You really don't see his shaved belly unless he
is laying down.Of course the pit areas and the rear leg rubbing
areas stay nice and matt free. Now, that said - I really love when he is
in full coat. Usually this is just before I shave him. I have always been
surprised how quickly his fur reache 3-4 inches, and at that point it really
slows down.
It seems like he really likes being shaved, because he takes off running and racing around like a maniac. It's like he feels so free. But my favorite
part is that he gets really snuggly in a "hold me, hold me" sort of way. I think he is just really chilly for a few days! I love it though.
They all look so different with and without all the fur.

Do you think you see more personality with or without the face fur??
I live in Florida semi tropical and lived in Alabama, Indiana, Kansas and Tennessee. I have always until recently kept the coat at 3/4 to 1/ 1/2 inches at the time of the cut and let it grow for 1 or 2 months until it gets 2 or 3 inches. In the winter I always do my last cut in September and the spring cut mid March. Also I have never let the hair grow to a point that it hangs over the eyes, they can't see for goodness sake. I am letting Roger's coat grow now only because I have this crazy idea that I want to show him. We started practice last week at the local AKC. Any way grooming at this length is no to bad they are very cute that way. I have found in warm weather, 85 and up, hair longer than 2 or 3 inches makes them run for the shade, come inside or swim in the pool. Roger actually runs from one shady spot to the next if I walk him off leash.
We live in Louisiana. Like Texas, Mississippi... it's hot, humid, sticky.... At the end of February I usually clip Abby down to about 1/2 inch or so. It's kinda like a birthday gift to her. She loves it when she gets clipped. She is sooooo spunky. She runs, dances, prances and gets really active. I love her personality when she's freshly clipped. By Christmas she is back in full coat ready for the camera and Christmas photos.

My mom gets so mad at me when I clip Abby. She loves her in full coat. I do too, but I know she's happier in 90 degree weather with shorter hair. It makes it easier to dry her if she wants to play in the pool.
We are in beautiful Massachusetts.

Weather: Variable and Exciting !!

Winter-snow, ice, below zero temperatures at times
This years feature-Blizzard in the Northeast

Summer-Often hot and humid ...

Our sheepie is in a full coat. For summer we will
as the groomer to place him in a puppy cut.
We learned with our first sheepie they are more comfortable
for the hot weather in the short cut.
Juarez, Mexico, in the border between Texas and NM.

25/35 in winter, 100 in summer.

Full Coat for Lennon, Puppy cut for Sofa because her hair has not grown yet.
They stay inside if it's too hot or cold or it's raining while we're at work. In summer they are kinda hot (Who isn't with 100 degrees??), so we may get puppy cut for them this year.
Here in Wichita, Ks. it's HOT in the summer and humid. Often 100 degrees plus. In the winter its colder than a brass monkey's uh..... tail! We keep Truman in a puppy cut year around. Mainly because he hates to be groomed and he looks so cute!!
Hi. we live in the middle of the Uk. Its coming up to he end of winter here its dark dismal and raining outside, oh! for light nights and sunshine. I have just had dougal cut short, normally I would wait till end of march but as he is action dog, thinks he is a retriever in the water, slides up an down muddy hills. He barked when we were at the cafe were we meet up for a chat with around 10 other dog walkers his bark is so deep he is now known as the barry white of the dog world.
Its very pretty were we live.
Like Zahra, we are in Massachusetts, though I am not quite as enthusiastic about the weather.... instead of enjoying it, we tolerate it -- and just barely.

Our dog cam to us in September as a mess, so Mulligan was shaved in late fall. He has been in a puppy cut all winter, and when it is at it's coldest, he is dressed in a sweater and/or coat if needed (below 30ish with wind, or if it's raining).

I have to say he doesn't seem to mind the temps at all until it gets below 0 F, or around 0 with a good wind.
We're in Ontario Canada, central part of the province.
The weather here is cold 90% of the time, with winter days commonly at -30 or colder, not even including the windchill. This year has not been as bad, but we think it's not bad if it is higher than -20. We often have snow from September through until March or April, I've even seen it snow in May and once in June here. (We are in the snow belt, and close to about 250 lakes) A hot day is anything over 15 celcius, and we rarely get anything over 25 even in the height of summer. Right now we only have about a foot of snow on the ground because it was very mild last week, around 0 on several days, and melted a lot.
Last August Dancer was shaved down, but I do intend on keeping the dogs in full coat. I love the look of a puppy cut too though, so when they are not showing anymore they might be clipped down to a few inches.
Hey Rogers dad where in florida are you located.Just curious I was born and raised in florida, born in Hialeah,as a young adult I moved to Port St. Lucie, and the Stuart area. Now Im in Stoughton Wiscosin, and winters really suck, this yr we have had alot of snow and Im not a winter person, lots of snow w/ temps in the 20's or colder.Spring and fall are wonderful for the most part chilly and sunny then at night it dips down into the 20's/30's.Summer is awesome it gets nice and hot here I love it!!Lots of time at the lakes.Since this is going to be a differnt summer than last yr(b/c mickey was very young last yr)im not sure how ill keep his coat, but I reallylike the puppy cut meaning it looks spikey on the top of his head, and nice and shaggy every where else.
