wooden floors

okay i have decided i must get these floors done asap.

I am confused as to which is better to get however.

I am going with Brazilian Cherry to match all the woodwork and cabinets here in the house. But i don't know which is the better way to go ....... the total all wood, or the engineered wood?

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions??? I need to decide THIS WEEK so i'm under the gun on this one.

Thanks,
ALi

Ali I am a little confused engineered wood ? please explain.

If you mean laminated wood then I would say it is advisable, we put this down in our bedroom and the sheepies are in and out of the room and we have no stains or scratches on our flooring.
Hi Stuart,
that is where they take about 1/4 inch of the cherry wood and laminate it to other wood...........

The real hardwood is about 2 inches total.
One man has said that i can sand down the engineered wood at least 3 times if needed and refinish.........

With all the dogs, i am concerned about scratches, and know before we move out of this house wold need to have this done to put on show market. So i'm just a bit as confused as you!!

i want to put in what ever is the best....... but most cost effective for us too. Especially in THIS economy!
Hi Ali

We have laminated wood in our bedroom and it is really resistant to sheepie claws ours are in and out of the bedroom all day and we now have our flooring down about eight years and nothing has been done to it.

I would say go for the engineered wood.

Stewart
Unless different brands/grades of engineered flooring are different now than when we checked them out a few years ago, remember that you can't refinish the engineered floors down the road. When you get wear (which obviously everything wears) you'll be replacing, not refinishing.

If that's no biggie, then no biggie! :D
ali, the best advice i can give you is to think how long you will stay in the house.....

laminated wood floors are typically less expensive BUT only have 1 refinish in them....where as, solid wood floors can be refinished many times.....

termites like both....

we have the laminated ones...and between me dropping stuff on them, panda scratching them and termite damage....id personally prefer the solid.....

OR even better, id go with a tile that looks like wood floor...easier all around!

ooh, darcy, those are so cool!
Distressed wood foors are popular here. Then it won't matter what your dogs do to them.
I think i will go to Lowe's tomorrow and see what they say and have. Now that i know the amount I need............. there and Liquidator floors too.
Darcy, those are great alternatives! Hmm, may have solved a big problem here.....the house with 5 different floors: tile, wood, brick, vinyl and carpeting......in a single story ranch.

Ali, personally, I'd do the real wood for the reason that it lasts decades even centuries whereas laminates will be lucky to get 15.........
I fell in love with these wood tiles...ive done a few homes with them...until you get down on your hands and knees and/or walk on them with heels on, you CANNOT tell the difference.....

i kinda hope that the termites go haywire on my floors....then i can do this and no longer worry...well, at least not about the floors...the roof may be another story
Since so much of the valley is one continuous termite condo, your dreams may come true, especially with your past experience and the imported "terminator" termites that will eat anything.
