penis...

Okay I always had girl dogs. Now I have a boy. Do I have to do anything special with his parts? I notice it can get yicky looking and have been cleaning it. Do they get cleaner; aware of their pee? He pees and doesn’t care that it runs into his feet.

I would love to know anything I should be looking out for with having a boy that be great!

I think, if anything, they care less about peeing on themselves as they get older. Clyde doesn't even bother squatting anymore.

You can keep the hair clipped down on the unit itself. I only clip the hair on the tip when it looks really long and gross and then only with extreme care!
I keep the entire belly shaved. Less to hit...

I also keep the penis clipped very short. I think it smells when it gets too long.
They don't care if it runs onto their feet - like if they pee on a hard surface and it runs like a river toward and onto a foot. :(

This is true of all breeds, unless you have a really prissy dog. Even Tazz the wimpy min pin lets it happen.

Is the stuff coming out green or infected looking? You can do washing with warm water. If it doesn't clear up in a day or so, you may need a trip to the vet.
If you are very clean and you want your boy to pass inspection you can flush the sheath.

The yellow legs, depending how water proof your dogs coat is and how often you bath him or let him play in water or how dry your climate is will effect how much of a problem this is.

Archie used to be terrible - I would quietly freak and be embarrassed, but by the time we have returned home his legs were bone dry if a dry day and not smelly at all - yes I smelt them

Have a hose on tap by the back door to give a quick rinse then towel them dry.

He improved with age and as he got longer and taller hits them less when standing, and now cocks his leg more than just stands. (maybe he didn't like peeing on his legs?)

I trim his belly area in front of it.
Ok. I had to laugh...is this a porn site? 8O Nigel usually has his belly shaved at the groomers which includes that area. (sanitary clip) This is fine if you don't show. I have had OES for over 30 years, and Nigel is my 4th boy. I think the girl parts are more likely to have grossness. He will clean himself eventually. Little boys just have "wet willy's". Dry him if you need to, but don't mess with him unless you see something problematic.

Boys are big sweeties...enjoy him.
Other than perhaps clipping the hair there when he gets older I would leave him be. My vet told me that if you are constantly cleaning it for him he'll never learn to do it himself..... (yuck)
Our groomer always gives Max a shaved belly, unit, and twins.

I'm not sure if it's for keeping him pee-free, but he stays pretty clean down there.

Of course, he always holds it in when he's at the groomer, has to go really bad when he gets out, and pees all over his front legs......

On another penis-cleanliness-related topic, we get drips of what don't appear to be pee. They're whitish and I can imagine what it is...... I'm assuming this is normal, as he doesn't seem to be sore or infected or anything - just a few drips from time to time. We get stains on the truck seats all the time. Sorry to hijack your thread, but since you're talking about penises, I figured I add to it.
Well, everyone has pretty much discussed the Willy, but don't forget the empty sac in back. If your dog is neutered and they leave the scrotum, be careful when you brush or shave. That little bit is always a surprise..."What this........Oh!"

Yes, you are probably correct.

Have you asked him what it is about the truck seat he finds particularly, eh, exciting?

My (neutered) male doesn't pee on himself. He lifts his leg or stretches himself out. I do shave a good portion of his belly just for cleanliness sake, but he lives with all bitches, including his dam. Perhaps they all get on his case. Sort of the canine equivalent of "put the damn toilet seat down!!"??

Hey I'm still in training my upright males in THIS house to do that :P
erm why is it so hard for women to put theseat up for us men?

Or would you like pee over the seat? 8O

Just asking
I'm thankful my male hasn't peed on himself!!! I'd hate that. I remeber my FEMALE always had pee that trickled down her back legs though when she was a puppy.

I'm more icked ...and I think mr. j has more of the heebie jeebies when the lipstick makes a visit. He's thankful it mostly just says hello to me.
oh my I hope I never see lipstick! ack!!!!!!
OH, you'll see lipstick! At our house we call it the red crayon.

Barney is pretty good about not peeing on himself, usually, but he does often get the river of pee headed toward one of his legs. I try to get him to run around a little on thr grass after that to try and dilute it a bit
