Poor Guy loses his manhood today *snip*

...and getting the ol snip snip. I have never seen someone so depressed to not get breakfast.

Hopefully all goes well and I guess the good news is ...he'll probably be quiet for a day. 8) Although I think we're just as miserable watching them nonstop the next few days.

If I have an appt tomorrow, should I put a cone on him while I'm gone? Not sure how I'll be blocking an area off yet if I have to since he could never fit in his cage w/a cone.

This is him right before we left... he knew something was up as he tried running under the couch yet I don't think he quite fits...

Look at that pissed off face... He did his routine of pooping and peeing and each time he looked at me like ..."so where's my water?" (what he's mostly concerned about) ...then he asked to go out again thinking if he peed just once more... he'd get SOMETHING. :(

oh wow he doesn't seem that old! Good luck all.
Poor Boo Boo.. momma so mean .. you come live with me in Nova Scotia.....
   He is sooo pretty!!!!!! Poor boy...you can come live here in St. Louis with me too!!!!!!!!!!
If he is anything like Archie, he won't even know it happened :D

Daft dog carried on as normal after his super naps from the anesthetic had worn off, and didn't bother inspecting his op.

The collar was a no go anyway, he had it off in a Trice!

Here's hoping all is well. :crossed:
Don't worry, he'll probably never even notice. Clyde didn't. It was harder to keep him calm than anything else.

How come you're doing it so early with him? (That's not meant to sound accusing, just curious!) It seems that most breeders will have you wait a bit longer until the pups have done a lot of their growing.
I rather get it over with! I read a thread a little while ago trying to convince someone else to wait a little longer, and I feel he'll be just fine.
Vet just called Mr. J to say he only has 1 testicle, and the other either hasn't dropped or he'll have to make an extra incision into the adominal area to get it. He asked if we should wait a little longer then to do it, and he said no... so guess he's about to go under now.
Good luck to you!

No cone for Oliver either, we put gym shorts on him, the ones with a tie around the waistband. Put the tie on top his back, then secure to his collar. I don't think I would secure to the collar if I couldn't supervise though.
His testicle was up in his abdomen, so he'll be a little more sore. They had to make another incision to remove the testicle, but my husband said I can pick him up in a few hours!
Poor boy.... gawd he is just so cute.... love that face :)
Jo, how's the little guy doing?

Is he home?

Bumble's breeder said, "Neutering at 8 to 10 months should be fine." so we had it done too. I was unable to find any medical information that indicated the length of time you can safely wait to neuter before testicular cancer becomes a risk. The risk is said to be 13 times higher in dogs with retained testicles.

Bumble's "lost one" was located way up by his kidney so he had two incisions too. Thankfully my vet has small hands because she had to search for it. http://oesusa.com/index.723.jpg They kept him overnight because it was invasive abdominal surgery. Neuter fee was about $450.

How frequent are retained testicles a problem in this breed? Before selecting a male puppy it's probably wise to ask if all the boys in the litter have dropped if pups are at least 8 weeks of age.
I am SO THRILLED that they found them both. Our first guy's papers said "One testicle was small and hard to find"... yah, because they didn't find it. He had a cryptorchid and was essentially an all-male dominant intact dog until he developed a Sertoli tumor in it at the age of 11. After removal he became the sweetest guy...
6girls, I don't think I know someone more organized with their pics than you!!!! You have great examples of everything! :)

He's home. He waits until the very last second that he can't see me anymore to stand up and follow me into another room. I was sitting on the bottom of the staircase, and he just laid on the same step (mind you there's only room for one).

Vet said they had to make 3 incisions. Gave me medicine for him for the next 5 days (rimadyl). He said it was like an easter egg hunt b/c the second one was microscopic, but they saved it to show me. ...said it was fairly difficult for him but was just glad he found it. SO AM I.

He did come home w/an ecollar b/c they said he won't stop licking it ...and they're right. I think they gave me a size too small though, but I'm used to not sleeping.

Thanks for everyone's concern! I always feel better getting reassurance here.

Awww. I'm glad you had some quality time with your boy. It's almost like a given that it's going to cause a problem... it's just a matter of "when".

It's difficult too because when I asked what I might look for with testicular cancer I was told to watch for feminine traits. When you have a dog that already isn't a humpty-dumpty type boy and doesn't have any marking behavior it makes you worry. The only other thing I was told to watch for was enlarged nipples. We weighed the risks of waiting verses the benefits and believe we made the right decision. If he had been normal, it would never have been an issue and we may have even shown him.

Organized? Crazy! One of the reasons I take pictures is because I can't find good examples when I'm searching for information. I couldn't find any pictures of what his incisions might look like... where they would be or how big they might be. By taking a picture it allows others to learn what I was unable to learn myself.

Hugs to your baby boy. Now the fun begins in keeping him quiet! To keep his incision covered, Bumble wore my nightgowns and long t-shirts.

After 10 days, I was only left with a couple that hadn't been ripped... he had a tendency to put holes in the fronts... one was left with the shoulder seam completely ripped out . 8O
I used underwear on Blue to stop the licking, it worked very well.
Well last night he just slept with us. As long as he was touching me, he was okay. Otherwise, he was walking in circles like something was up his butt. I can tell it was because he wanted to grab his stitches but was trying to avoid touching it. He's clingy today, but he's the BIGGEST WIMP DOG I've EVER met. He screams ...literally, when you scare him around the corner, screams when he gets any shot, screams when a bug lands on him, so sometimes I think he's lacking a testicle b/c God contemplated making him a female.

The 3 incisions, and a shot of his pathetic crying face.

GRAPHIC TO SOME WARNING
(although I tried to cut out his third leg).

Ouch - poor guy!

Give the baby a big hug from me :ghug:
yeouch, that looks like the sewing machine was set to zigzag! 8O

Now wonder he wants to lick!

Give him a few days and he'll be bouncing around, my Vet said to keep Archie calm for 10 days

They have never owned a sheepie that was very clear!

But with those incisions best he does stay calm. good luck with that! :crossed:
Ouchie. What a sweet face.

Some babies are just more sensitive than others. Bumble was a wild man when we picked him up the next morning. I swear I'll take the next one home the day of surgery because the dude was SO excited to see us I was afraid he was going to pop his stitches. He was galloping in place down the hall on the slippery floors while being walked on a leash.

And thanks for posting a picture to further my education
You too used creative cropping to avoid any x-rated doggy pictures.
Poor boy. Poor your family, a miserable puppy with a lampshade. Somebody's going to be whacked every few minutes.

Yes, my 2 sheepies are the biggest Woosies.......I thought MO was bad until Jack came along. "Ow, you are touching me the wrong way." excuse me?

I hope the Rimadyl keeps the pain down and by Sunday he's over the owies. The lampshade must remain though, sorry.
he sounds just like dreamer i ended up putting boys underwear on him he never stop licking also i think now it was the shaving so close , i just shave his privates last week and it drove him crazy for 2 days ,, duffy also had 3 different stitches but it never bother him,, we have such babies
Aw, poor little guy. That looks like it sucks. I hope he heals up fast!
Poor little thing! I feel sorry for him. A funny story? Eight years ago I took my 7 month old pup to the vet for the same thing, and the vet greeted me at the door. As he opened the door to let me in, it was like a slow motion scene from a cartoon!! The pups collar fell apart, I kid you not!! The brand new collar just gave way. It was like the powers that be said."not this boy!!" Neither the pup nor I had been pulling on the collar, it was brand new on that morning. To the pup it was like a repreve from the governor. He bolted, running across the main road. I was so scared he would be hit by a car that I bolted after him, running in front of a 4x4 and nearly ended up hit. We both stopped traffic and after the shock of the dog and I running at random, we then stopped traffic again because everyone wanted to stop and see why the crazy lady was standing at the side of the road bawling her eyes out and the vet was comforting her. It feels like it happened last week.
Hoping he is feeling better soon :( Poor baby
