Breeder referral???

Hi, this is my first time posting. Hope all of you are well. If a breeder is not listed on the OESCA, does that mean they aren't ok? I live in Minnesota and there are two breeders on their site. One is having pups in 2010 and the others' email address wont work.

I was talking to a nice woman who breeds out of Hanover ( Wintergreen Kennels) [link removed]. She isn't on the list, but seems like a nice woman who answers my questions and seems great. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

In order to be approved to be on the breeder referral list of OESCA, a breeder needs to be a member of OESCA, have signed the Breeder's Code of Ethics for breeding, follow that code of ethics & finish to it's AKC Championship at least 1 dog out of every 3 litters they produce. This shows that they are seriously interested in breeding to better the breed & not just to make a few bucks off a litter. Quite frankly, most of the breeders listed there do more that these requirements & finish more dogs than the minimum required. It takes a lot of time, committment & $$$ to breed good, sound, healthy Old English Sheepdogs. People listed on this breeder referral list are committed to doing so.

I know nothing about the kennel or "breeder" you mentioned & I have been in this breed since 1986 & actively training & competing in conformation & obedience since 1997. I have been co-breeding with my mentor for the last several years. Since I do not know anything about this breeder you mention I righfully cannot say anything bad or good about her. All I will say is that anyone can sound nice on the phone & even in person. You need to know the right questions to ask & you need to know what a good sound Old English Sheepdog looks & acts like so you can compare her puppies & adults to others you have looked at. Remember, this will be a 12-15 year or longer committment. You can never ask too many questions.

Hi, would you please PM me with which email address wasn't working on the breeder referral list? I'm the webmaster for the OESCA site and would like to fix it.

Good luck with your search. A lot of people from your area on this board that I'm sure will help you find a puppy from an ethical breeder.
Got Sheep, I tried sending you a PM, and I have to be a member for at least an hour :D
I will try PMing you later to night or tomorrow. Thanks so much for your quick reply. I really appreciate it.

ChSheepdogs, Thank you for the information. I find it quite useful. Thanks so much again!

I may be asleep before the hour is up. :D
However, I will have my laptop at work tomorrow and check back.

Sorry about that, Amy. I had to put that into place (among lots of other things) to protect against those pesky spammers. :(
No problem Ron, I fully understand why you do that!

My 9 month old came from a reputable breeder in Minnesota. I think you are referring to them because they are not breeding again until 2010. Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions at all.
