saulmr and the Danita website advertisement or not?

The saulmr danita website member responses seem to me to be advertisements. Would you guys consider removing the advertisement and continuing to be members? :?

Saulmr is a generuos and active member, no one makes you click on their link to their shop. I for one, do not mind it and hope they do well.. Rah rah for small business!!!
well said i dont know where my post has gone but anyway i dont see what your problem is guest
Guest (totally not a flame but more of a so-you-know), you may want to know that just b/c you don't post your real username, your IP address is still recorded, and I'm sure Ron and the moderators (prolific posters) can match them up.

I'm only mentioning it to prevent flames in the future. Unless you're using a site that hides your IP address (which plenty toolbars for this do exist) I've noticed on my own how some people seem to act differently when they think they're posting anonymous.

I love seeing the different pictures saulmr/danita create. The latest one is a hoot!
I agree with JSMarcus, you are not forced to log on to their website nor are you forced to purchase anything from them. I think it is a nice way to find OES merchandise made by OES lovers. I for one have no problem with their website being part of their posts.
I think their stuff is adorable, and I click the link at times just to see the cute artwork.

I am the only one that can see IP addresses here... I am also the only one that can see any information added in the private areas of your user profile (i.e. email address). In order for me to see an IP address, I must click a button on the post, something that I very rarely do. When I do, it's usually because of something that is abusive or inflammatory, which was not the case here, in my opinion.

Further, a very large percentage of people post from dial-up connections, and/or a very large provider like AOL or Sprint or Level3, and they get a new IP address every time they dial up. Other ISPs give people on DSL or cable a new IP address every day as well, so the ability to match IPs with a particular user is somewhat compromised.

I run this site with a philosophy that:

1) Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and is entitled to share it anonymously, within reason.
2) Anybody is entitled to ask questions anonymously.
3) People who take advantage of #1 and/or #2 will not be "outed".

If I was in the process of deciding upon the fate of a certain post, the fact that the IP matches the IP of a member would actually encourage me to keep the post, based on the fact that it carries more weight and credibility with me coming from a member.

Sometimes, though rarely, I do make an editorial decision to remove or edit a post.
Here are the criteria I have used in the past:
1) Pure commercial SPAM (cigarette ads, porn ads)
2) Duplicate posts.
3) Posts responding to removed posts -- to leave them would be confusing.
4) Complaint from an aggreived person, who isn't brave enough to post in her (or his) own behalf, and takes a chicken crap approach of threatening other members of the forum that she (or he) is going to sue me, but doesn't have the guts to say so to me directly. I may remove such posts simply because I don't want to deal with the <nice person>, which of course meant that she (or he) "won". Too bad, since I would have allowed her (or him) to post very nice things about herself (or himself), and the overall effect would have been quite positive for her (or, of course, his) image, but there you go.

I may also edit posts based on the above criteria, as well as to:
5) Redact profanity.
6) Edit for clarity and grammar, but only under the most egregious circumstances.
7) Edit to point to photos on the oes.org server, to either link pictures submitted, or to capture and host hotlinked pictures.
Well i for one love danitas web site for sheepie stuff,IM not a fan of ebay, and i love the fact im in some small way helping a small business,in fact i have 5beautiful dolls being made for me right now,and I couldnt be happier.as all of us know it isnt easy to find sheepie things, rugs, shirts, stuffed animals.etc. and her web site ehlps me 100% in finding anything I want or may want to give as gifts.Like all have said no one is making any of us click on her web page,I do it because i enjoy her art work, and think she is just such a wonderful person. So if you find it offensive just dont click on her site,BUT if you do I bet you end up buying something :D
I find smilies distracting and offensive, please remove from all posts!

There is a HUGE difference between spamming mulitple forums with advertisements/links proclaiming "Check out all the great merchandise at..." and a link in a signature. Though not everyone has purchased something from thier shop, everyone enjoys what saulmr and danita bring to this forum.

I would recommend future complaints/suggestions like this be made by email or PM to Ron (the admin), especially if you do not have the cajones to log in.

Now, if anyone is looking for a better sex life, to lose 30 lbs in 1 week or make millions from your home please click on ...

It was just a question. 8O I am happy to see everone loves and respects the post from saulmr, I love the forum and participate often. You will find that I am always willing to say or ask any hard question and because I like the Forum so much I thought I would put it to the members. I still think the advertisement is a little commercial but always enjoy reading what they have to say. Saulmr , Thank you for your many contributions, the membership has ruled in your favor and that speaks highly of you in general. Sorry for any hard feelings and I am happy to live with what ever is the majorities feeling on this and any other subject. I forget to sign in sometimes and just go on and post anyway.

     these better???or how about these 8O 8O 8O 8O .Im really happy at the fact this forum comes together when someone wants to be silly at someones elses expence.(im wording this very carefully as you know)it would be an aweful thing if Ron was to make danita take her web site off,in which i think i know where he stands on this.i think we all should be able to speak our minds in here, but when it comes to being totally off the wall thats how we should treat it...off the wall....what the heck here ya go Gato :D :D :D :D

1st off, they wouldn't be able to email or PM without being logged in, and secondly I really do believe that everyone has the right to post their feelings anonymously.

But I have enjoyed your humorous approach!
Every now and then you have to stir the pot if the stew is going to turn out right.

That's what I am here for.

Now off to make my "Ramen Surprise" from the recipe thread.
I think everyone here has the right to post how they feel and to make suggestions on what they would like to see change in the forum. I would however miss the links to Saul and Dani's shop. I love going to their site and looking (wishing) for all of their wonderful items. I love all the avatars, but the latest one makes me laugh and is one of my favorites! :D

Stormi and co.
I don't mind seeing danita's stuff advertised in saulmr's posts, I think Ron will need to go on a case by case basis, because while Saul and Danita's stuff is sheepie related, it could lead to others advertising their own stuff that may not be sheepie related, which could lead to a very commercialized site. And since Ron's rules clearly state no advertising I can see how the question came up.
Danita's web site is great!!!!!!!!!! I would most likely not have found it, if there was not a link. Thanks
Dear oes.org members,

We want to thank you for the support we got from you on this thread about the advertising for our store. It's nice to see how the members pull together when important issues arise, and how the community is aware of what's going on, either be advertisement, questions from new members or puppies and breeding. This is a very close community and it makes us feel honored to be a part of such a wonderful place where everyone accepts each other's opinions, are always willing to share some advise and always take things with a very sheepie-like humor.

As you all know, we've been active members of the community for almost two years now, we've adopted two OES last year and thanks to the forum we're more involved in local dog rescue. Rogers Dad question was generated out of genuine concern about the forum and the content of it, and is a very commendable thing to care for the forum so much. The idea from the store came from a painting I posted on October, everyone liked it a lot and asked me if I was willing to sell it, and now the rest is history. My little store started out of the forum's member suggestion, knowing how hard it is to find sheepie stuff out there.

I'm hoping that my husband and I can continue to be active members of this wonderful community for a loooooong time, my intention never was to get rich or spoil the forum with unrelated advertisement. Believe me, the wonderful comments I get from you when you receive your drawings, or when you openly express how much you like my work are far much valuable to me than the few bucks I could make out of them. I'm really happy that I can bring a smile and happiness to people with my drawings.

Thanks to Ron for the opportunity, thanks everyone for your support!!!!

Danita.
This made me realize that I never thought of it as advertising, maybe just a reminder that it was a place to get great sheepie stuff.

J
I never really thought of it as advertising either. To me, it's not that noticeable, it just looks like a quote or another part of the signature. I think that it would also bog down the forum if people had to ask for the website all the time if they wanted something. (Not everyone uses the PM or e-mail.)
It would also be different if they just showed up and started marketing. Didn't we all start asking for the stuff and where we could by it? By that logic, if Carl ever does put out a book or DVD he wouldn't be allowed to speak of it here. We'd have to go looking for it out on the wild terrain of the internet or worse yet, the USPS! (Heaven forefend.) We started it so we need to deal with it. Maybe advertising regulations do need set up before anything else happens or someone else barges in and says that precedent was set, yada yada...
As it is though, I don't think it's bad. The link is unobtrusive and it seems that the merchandise is pretty rockin'!
P.S. Saulmr your avatar right now is the funniest thing I've seen. Had I been drinking milk, it would have come out of my nose!
I love Danita's work and would miss it greatly if it were removed. I love their changing avatars. I appreciate Saul's insight, stories, and posts. How can you not love a couple who renamed Sophie to Sofa because she is such a couch potato?

Let's talk about dogs, listen and learn about dogs, and see great pictures (photos and art) of our OES. Let's not waste time being unhappy about what someone else said, did, or posted.

One of the great freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment (with apologies to all the non-Americans on the forum) is the freedom to completely ignore speech that doesn't interest you. Don't like a particular member? Don't read his posts. Don't like a link? Don't go there.
>>Votes for Danita and Saulmr's site. I too enjoying viewing their articles and newest creations.

To be fair they never came in here blatantly advertising any of their wares, it became a work in progress after they contributed as valuable members of this forum.

The only thing I can see as perhaps having an impact (sorry Danita and Saulmr) , as I love you guys, is I hope people will also continue to purchase items from NEOES rescue as monies from that offset cost to their rescues. I'd even be open to paying a few dollars more for your items and having say a dollar go to NEOES. Now who's going to argue with something that helps sheepies in trouble? That might be a lot of work however and it's just a suggestion as I know you guys have also taken in rescues.

Now having said that , I noticed even before this post appeared, Saulmr encouraged people to go to the NEOES site to check out the items. Gotta luv that and he and Danita truly have the best intentions.

Leave it to someone who doesn't know history to mess with the present, I am making my kids study extra tonight, maybe myself also. By the way I have visited your store several times and like what you have done. I am grateful that you saw the real meaning of my comment.

Live well and prosper
I also love Danita's stuff! Right now I'm patiently awaiting 0rder number 2! Please keep up the beautiful artwork!

Danita's store has made it possible for me to get cool goodies with my OES mix Dudley on them. There just aren't enough shirts out there with OES/boxer mixed dogs on them!! :-)

~Katie & Dudley.
Hi Katie :) How is Dudley doing?
Duds is doing great! Thanks for asking. I think we've turned the corner a little bit - I've been coming at home for lunch everyday the last month or so, and it's really been helping. He doesn't always want to play, but I think he's glad to have a break in the middle of the day.

We got another roommate in my house, and she's generally home in the mornings - she is willing to puppy-sit for us when she can. The two mornings this week that we tried it out were pretty good so far.
