New update on Zorro

You will know from my previous posts the state Zorro was in when he came to us last February, I am happy to say that in between times and some 14 months later this young boy has changed remarkably.

We were at the vet yesterday to get his yearly injections and a health check, our vet is satisfied with Zorro's progress and has given him a clean bill of health, we are happy he now weighs 38 kilos (84 lbs) and his eye and ear infection have cleared up. He gets a hard doggy biscuit every second day so we are having no more problems with plaque.

As you may also know Zorro comes from a litter where a Genetic Disease infected some of the puppies, we have sent blood into the University of Liege and we have received a satisfactory reply but according to the rules of genetics when one of the parents is a carrier then 50% of the pups will be carriers.

I would like the opinion of the breeders on the forum on this subject, I am strictly against using him and my vet is the opinion since he is a good dog we should use him at least once or twice, her arguments are since there are no tests we should try at least once but to restrict the amout of times he sires so as not to over do, when a test come out to get him tested immediately and notify the puppy buyers of the results asap.

Furthermore the gene pool in the OES no longer allows dogs to withheld from breeding and he will be a positive addition to the Stud dogs available, she also had one or two other points regarding using him and in her opinion as long as we take care there should be no worries.

It would be nice to hear some opinions as I do have some people who would like to use him and I will have to make a final decision soon. I would like to use him on Misty as they are so similar and I think we may get some nice pups.

One last thing after a break from showing my wife has decided it would be nice to finish the German Champion with Zorro, so I will start showing him again in June at an international here in Germany.

Nice to see you going back to the ring Stewart. I have nothing to add to your question, but i hope the breeders will keep it online so we can all learn something!!
