Trimming Butts (pictures)

I've been growing out the wigglebums' coats for a year now. :cheer: There were days when I didn't think we'd make it. :phew: But, now that we're here, it seems pretty simple. I don't know if it's gotten easier or if I have just gotten used to the maintenance, but either way, I'm pleased!! :yay:

Now that we've got something to work with, I wanted to learn the right way to trim them - particularly butts and feet. I missed the seminar at Mandy's house last year. :( I have read and seen all the videos and layouts that have been posted here. But, I was still scared to try. I really need hands-on instruction. :?

I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to do just that recently. A wonderful lady who has been showing for 20+ years graciously agreed to teach me. I was beyond thrilled!! I was so excited the night before we were to meet that I could barely sleep. :excited: I felt like the little boy in that Disney commercial..."I'm too excited to sleep!!" :excited:

Since I know how everyone is always looking for instructions and pictures, I thought I'd post a few of our results. Here are some before, during and after shots of the wigglebums. I love it. They have never looked better. :P

For some reason, the best "before" shot of her butt would not upload. So here is a side view of Genevieve before trimming. She's just been dried here:

Here she is during the trimming process:

These were taken the next day after I brushed her out a bit:

My too tall boy's legginess isn't as noticable now.

My next assignment is to buy scissors. If anyone has a good source, I'd love to know about them. :P

you did a great job. I would love to learn how to groom to show dog perfection LOL What great looking dogs :cheer: I love sheepie butts. The top sheepie looks a lot like sophie
I'm so jealous you have help!!!!!!!!! They look marvelous ...you really did an AWESOME JOB!!! ...and I love how long their coat is now! Grown a lot more than Yuki's would have in a year!
Oh now you post pics

Will bookmark this for next time
Thanks! :D

They do look great, but let me clarify, I was learning at the feet of a master. She trimmed, I watched and took photos. :o I can't take any credit for how great they turned out. Now, in the future, keeping up with it, it's all on me. We'll see how I do.
Looks very nice. :) I bought my scissors from Ryans Pet supply if that helps any.
They both look amazing!! :clappurple:
Except that her right ear is black, Genevieve and Tiggy have nearly the same markings. One long right front sock and one short and short back socks.
Who helped you? Is it a secret? Give 'em some props!
The very talented and lovely Grace Caplan taught me.
Great butts :go: Well done the kids look stylish
Ok, I believe you -
I was trying to figure out who's hand that was in the one picture!!! :D :D

Oh, Grace is just a doll! And did she mentions she does agility too?

She may have trimmed the butts, but you grew the dogs out and they look great!

Kristine
They look great :hearts: :hearts:
Maybe Grace could do a grooming demo
at the toes picnic!
Marty and Jim can do the Obedience and Rally demo!!!

I love to watch her work!

She is a doll! :D And yes, we talked about Agility and Rally. Jim had Star in a Rally competition that day. Grace and I talked about me putting Genny into agility classes. Beau & I start Rally O classes next week.

And thanks again, I am very happy with their coats right now. Hope I can keep them in shape now that I've learned a little bit.

And yes, Kathy, I enjoy watching her work, too. She makes it all look so effortless. I just wish I'd have a video camera. :D
What great looking kids! Will you be offering butt trimming in St. Louis :)

Bite...

Oh, never mind, where's that wretched tea, you wicked wench! <blech!>

I think we've established I'm not permitted to own scissors.  8) Perhaps Sunny can be lured in that direction with the promise of agility and rally and obedience matches and we'll con, eh, I mean ask her nicely to do a demo. Though I think there will be other grooming proficient individuals on hand, so...

Kristine
Your sheepies look great Tammy!
I am hoping someone can do something with Miss Marley's Butt in St Louis. I still don't even own scissors. Morgan is so easy :D bzzzz clip :D
Oh you're funny, Holly!! I think a grooming demo would be a great idea. I'd love to watch!! Kerry's offering Marley for a subject. :D As long as it's not Kristine doing the trimming. :sidestep:
what a cute butt

See, this is how misconceptions start!

If you want your dog to look like he lost a fight with a lawn mower, no one does this better than me.

If you want your dog to look like he's permanently going up (or down) hill, I can show you how to do this too.

If you want your dog to look like he's wearing slippers, this is my specialty.

And finally,

If you want to make sure your dog's head coat is too short to put up in rubberbands, but too long for the dog to see anything short of maybe a building, boy, oh, boy have you found the right person for the job!!! :D

Clearly, someone as versatile as I am in the grooming department SHOULD be the one doing grooming demonstrations! But for some reason I'm never asked...????? :lmt:

[hey! Kerry, where are you going with Marley??? Chicken!!! Bawk, bawk, bawk, bawk   8O :P :? ]
^^

Well if you bring scissors (can you own them now?) I can probably make her look like that myself :P
LOL, you are too funny

I can't wait to see Miss Marley....... from the rear.

And perfect timing with all these comments. Chewie is going back in the ring this weekend, so I have been trimming on him. I've been getting flashbacks while cutting of all the possible horrors that could happen....thanks

Why are you trimming on him??? 8O 8O 8O LEAVE HIM FOR MARNIE!

Better yet, maybe I can pay Sunny to do it. I forget - is she entered?

Oh, psht!!! You're no fun!!!!  :P

Yes, I do have unauthorized scissors. <shhhh>

Sunny is not coming - shower being held in her honor..

I have somewhat graduated. I get to trim now. I even got an unsolicited compliment last time. Trust me, I almost fell over....
Don't worry, I'll leave the finishing to Marnie. :)

Oh, that weddding stuff. I tried to tell her to elope. Or, better yet, get married in the BIS ring so we'll all be there

Trim as little as you can. Marnie can't fix mistakes like Sunny can, so if you make one, she'll take him down as far as need be and you'll be growing him out for months. Ask me how I know this...

Scissors at daybreak?
