Pneumonia, Fluid around the lungs

I just picked up my beautiful and incredibly sweet ten week old OES yesterday and I took him to the vet today to get a check up. Turns out he has some pneumonia and fluid around his lungs. He's staying for treatment until 6:30 and then going back in tomorrow morning.
Murphy is incredibly sweet and friendly. He had no fever at the vet and had been eating/drinking/going to the bathroom normally which surprised the vet. He's very strong! I hope the treatment goes well and he gets better quickly. I miss him very much.

Could this have been picked up from the place I got him? It was a puppy place (luckily they are paying for all the vet bills). And does anyone know if this is recurring (or happened to anyone else)?

Wow! Pneumonia can be caused by viral, bacterial, fungal or smoke inhalation. Is is common in dogs with other medical problems......weakened immune systems or hormone inbalances. The fact your pup is strong is a good sign. I assume the vet started the pup on a standard antibiotic, but hopefully also took a culture to determine if the treatment needs to be changed to fit the type of pneumonia.

Dogs should be enouraged to cough, even with you tapping his ribs to dislodge the gunk. A little exercise as well will also encourage expelling. If caught early and treated aggressively and correctly, there's little chance of lasting problems. However, the longer the problem has been present, the less likely of a full and complete recovery......some pulmonary problems later.

Mycopic Pneumonia is caused by fungi in the soil usually from decaying plant material....think inhaling spores. For example Valley Fever affects dogs as well as humans particularly in the low deserts of AZ and Calif, histoplasmosis is from the Ohio River valley, Blastomycosis from the Great Lakes and Mississipi river area. I don't know of anything from Florida.

Since he came from a "pet store" probably a bacterial or viral cause. Hopefully bacterial as they are far easier to cure. Usually upper respiratory problems are lumped together as "kennel cough" but sounds like this guy got the nastier bug.

Poor little guy.
Poor puppy!

I hope he feels better right quick.
Hope he recovers quickly--sounds like he is a strong puppy!
The vet immediately started him on antibiotics and he's going to have a few days treatment with a nebulizer. I've been giving him mild exercise and so far he's doing alright.
Thanks for the info and well wishes!
welcome from central fla good luck make sure the vet really looks over the pup since i know from living in s.f and rescuring a bunch in miami the pup place you got him from don't tell all that is wrong with the pup
