Name help - I need to name a boy!

I've decided to keep a puppy, a boy, but for the life of me can't think of a name that sticks.

My dogs were all named after characters in books until Piper, who is named for a character in a TV show (Charmed).

This boy is a big, goofy, cute puppy who seems fairly quiet but not overly laid back.

I had always thought when I kept a boy of my own breeding he would be named Durc, a character from a book (The Clan Of The Cave Bear), but it just doesn't seem to work for me.

Other names I've toyed with are Epoch, Landon, Gordon, Ramsay, and Wilson.
Any new ideas and or opinions on those ideas are appreciated :)

I'll ask Todd too when he comes in. He and LeAnne read the same books you like. :D

heh.

I love the name Albus for a male sheepdog, from Harry Potter. I think once that coat grows and and goes grey , it will be perfect! I also like Walter and Perry, from the animated tv show "Home Movies". But I think that would work better for a pair of male sheepdogs; having just one named Walter or Perry wouldn't quite work. The team of them were ridiculously silly on that show.

So I'd say keep a second pup, or go with Albus!!!!

Ok ok, that IS in the running too.... it was actually the first I suggested but someone doesn't like it.
Pull out some classic english novels and skim through them. Jane Austen, etc. They have some great names in them.
I'm rather fond of Bumbles for big goofy guys but probably not suitable for show ring

Barnaby..would become Barnie, Cedric, Declan, Dirk, Gavin, Luke, Merlin, Miles, just about any of the Q's: Quinn, Quillen, Quay, Reginald, Truman   Aren't we helpful...

Actually one day a name will come that will suddenly fit. Jack became Jack when he did a straight up from 4 on the floor.....Jack in the Box. One dog I know become Bruce after they decided Big Bruiser was too complicated.

Congrats on the newest member. :yay:
LeAnne is on the phone. driving down to my house. :D

She likes Perrin, from the Wheel of Time series.
It is the name that came immediately to mind for a dog, especially an OES. He's a big guy, laid back, cautious and thinks things through before acting, and can communicate with wolves in the book.

She also likes Ramsay/Ramsey.
what about Aslan from the chronicle of narnia?
we have a Leonberger Dog at our dog park that they keep in a Lion cut who is named Aslan.
Name him Leo to go with Piper.
Oooh like Perrin so different and unique. :D

Piccys of the boy you are keeping. :D

Hope all went well yesterday with the little girl leaving the nest, always such a hard and sad time to say goodbye. :( She was a sweetie. :D
Everything went well with the first pup leaving the nest, she cried for about 15 mins and then slept the rest of the way.
She really bonded with her new family right away when they came to see her a few weeks ago, so I think that helps too.

As for names for my boy... Leo made a few light bulbs go off. LOL I *think* Leo is a name we're going to serisously consider....
We loved the name Wyatt too, but not sure it suits him.

So, here are the names on the table at the moment:

Ronnie
Leo
Wyatt
Durc
Landon

Perrin is a cool name, but I prefer names that have meaning to me... or I at least am very familiar with the frame of reference for the suggestion :)
Leo is a great name! :D
If not perrin then no brainer HAS TO BE "RONNIE" :P

You will make someone real happy with that name  :roses: :roses: :roses: :excited:

Landon & Durc are different and unique too. :D
I liked Perrin because I've read the books and thought it was cool that the author wrote about a character that had the characteristics of wolves/dogs, ie he had exceptional hearing and sense of smell, and could tell if someone was scared or lying etc by thier smell. And he could communicate with wolves. But I agree the name should have personal meaning for you, so I guess you should go with ............... Ronnie

I like that one :D
I think I'm going to have to read about Perrin, it sounds interesting....

As far as Aslan goes.... my cat Winston looks creepily like Aslan, and I think if I ever have another long haired orange cat in a hundred years after Winston dies I'll name it Aslan.
You're letting yourself in for a BIG read then. There's 10 or 11 books in the series to date and its not finished yet. I started buying the series years ago when the author said it would be a 4 book series 8O
I believe the author has a fairly serious illness that has delayed him finishing the latest book.
Yeah, I haven't read them, but LeAnne and Travis as well as Todd have read them all. They are eagerly awaiting the new book.

LeAnne has just started reading the series again, to get back up to speed. Almost done with the 1st one . It is a mere 782 pages long, not counting the glossary.......
There are currently 12 out, the 13th one is the eagerly awaited one. Oh - I got corrected! There are 13 out, if you count the prequel. (The New Spring?)
The 1st one is called The Eye of the World, author is Robert Jordan.
LeAnne says you should read them!
I have decided to reread the series before the next book is released. There are so many threads to the plot that I've forgotten some of what's happening. I cant figure out how the author has managed to keep the whole thing on track. I'm glad he has though. :D
That's a series I haven't read yet but you're all making it sound intriguing so maybe it needs to be next on my list :)
My first sheepie was named after a village in England. Tangham. It was unusual and got a lot of comments. So look at an english map. You might find a good name that way

I am a Gordon Ramsey fan. I had to explain to my son his show, "The F word" is food not the other BAD word. Ramsey would be cute.
Names I like:-

RAIN
CHEWY
DILLON
LEWIE
BOOTS

Good luck with the name.

LOL Yeah except the other f word makes it's appearance on all of his shows a lot more than the word food! I LOVE Gordon Ramsay...

Anyway, since this topic got nudged back into existence, I've named the puppy Leo, and his registered name is Lakesong's Forever Charmed.

The next female I keep, likely out of Panda's next litter, call name will be Paige or Pheobe, reg name again something to do with Charmed.
How big is Leo? I weighed Langley a few days ago and he was 17lbs. (I will get on the wii fit board  tonight)

Coming along nicely

Be very interesting to see where he will end up size wise. Laika was on the small size and she is huge now! But not overweight at all. Just a big girl
Leo is 25lbs.
The other pups are all between 22.5-25.5 lbs
he's catching up!!! yeah!!
How about Oscar!!! Or Jake!
:D

Our Sheepie is called Remus, who was one of the sons of Mars ( greek stuff)
