Agility Training(told by Garfunkel)

OMG OMG OMG I think it Agility Day. Dads getting the treats out of the fridge, I have to run over to smell it. Yep, thats the treats. Moms getting her shoes on...OMG, OMG,OMG!!!! I can't contain my self, I'm shaking, jumping, prancing.

Ok, we're in the car now. Maybe if I whine a little they will drive faster. FINALLY...its been a WHOLE two miles. It took forever. Mom and Dad are walking around the back to open it and....dang they said "wait".

Ok we're inside now and Dad tells me to stay, that sooooooooo hard. Oh wait, there's mom and Simon. I think I'll go say "Hi". Opps dad's calling me again...Hey Dad, look, its Mom and Simon. Heeyyy, why is Mom turning away from me???? Dad loves me...He's calling me again.

This is soooo much fun going over the jumps and the A-frame...Hey there's Mom and Simon. Hey Simon want to wrestle??? Dad's calling me again...Dad come over here...its Mom and Simon.

Why is Dad looking at me with an exasperated look on his face???

That's a good one.
The whole family is there, what's a dog to do????

I imagine mine say something similar, but a different version. Mine are several dogs, all working with one person. Do they compare notes with each other when they are in the house together??

"I did a jump, walk, jump, table, weave, jump - what did you do??"

" I just did that same jump, something about learning to bounce..."

"Oh, I am so past that now.... 8) "
Would it help to run Gar around the building a few times before entering to wear off some of that hyperness? But then sheepies just love to have fun.......

Oh I got so yelled at last week (my instructor is the serious kind) for trying to wear off some of Morgan's excitement before obedience. I can't imagine if I tried to do it to Marley before agility. I think there is this thing called drive which they like us to use to our advantage
I thought about that. And it can work to your advantage, but I also wonder if taking time to "sharpen the pencil" before entering the door with a little exercise and commands might help.
Sometimes the "wearing off extra energy" plan can backfire.

My beginner class that just finished had several very energetic pups and young dogs.
The week that 2 of the owners tried the "wearing down" idea came up with mixed results. One was better and one was horribly worse. The worse one seemed to feed on the attempt!

I know another male show OES who is the same way. He gets so much worse behaved if they walk him a lot before going in the ring. He is better just going from grooming or crate. Seems odd,, but it really can happen. You just need to know your dog and what works - or what doesn't. 8)
Simon and Garfunkle sound like Tonks and Luna at Agility! Except that Garfunkle sounds a little more obedient. A few times now, Luna has left Adam's side when I start Tonks' run, and followed all of the commands that I give to Tonks. It ends up being two sheepies running the coarse at once!
Yes, each dog is different, you just have to experiment to see what works for your hounds. They are indeed different!
