Humane Society fustrations

Well i've been trying this for a year now i think. It feels like longer! lol. But i posted another thread talking about breeders and how to know if the person you are getting an oes pup from is a good breeder. I got a lot of great feedback from that! After Me and My husband discussed your reponses and what we were really looking for, we decided the best fit for us and Bruno (our 3 year old samoyed rescue) is to get an older rescued OES. But its been nearly impossible to find any in our state. We live in Washington. Well finally after months of looking one appears on petfinder we see this sweet lady Sashie who is a beautiful 3 year old sheepie! She seems to be telling us with her eyes, "please come save me". The only issue is she's in Vancouver, WA which is about 6 hours from us! arggh.. We know there is no way with tax season (i do accounting) and my husbands freight business so busy this week that we can get there till saturday. I try calling the Humane society to find out what i can do to hold her, we know we will take her, we have no doubt about it. but they offer us no help whatsoever. Just a "yay whatever maam nothing we can do for ya goodbye" I tried, i'll give you money for the 2 day hold. Or i'll come after work but we wont get there till the middle of the night? uhh no to that too. So now i'm just hopeing that she's there in 2 days so i can go get her because even if they know someone is a good home and very enthusiastic to save Sashie ultimately they dont really care, its a dog in dog out, each dog is just a number kinda place. Its so disheartning and after going through this a serious of times in my life with other dogs of ours i realize if i didnt already have schooling and training for the career I have now. I'd seriously consider doing something to change Human Societys who never seem to humane. It makes me really appreciate and love those that volunteer effortlessly knowing ever animal is special and work to give them a home and life that is more then dog in dog out but dog in great home forever! ok thanks for letting me vent..the end.. =)

Left message on mom's voicemail just now saying, "hey Mom, was just thinking maybe you a Winston want to take a road trip to Vancouver today." hehe yeah she's going to love that! . Oh yeah Winston is our familys 7 year old OES and mom's resident licker!
Well i'm so excited, due to my distress i got a reference for a contact with the Greater Portland OES rescue organization and they are currently in contact with the Humane Society to release Sashie to them as we speak. I am so excited and really hopeing that this works out for her! Thank god for the OES Rescuers, they are really amazing!!! (still keeping fingers crossed)
This is all very exciting!

YAY!

Congratulations.
Well we seem to have been stalled out again as of last night. The Oregon Rescue is working really hard and I have to say I couldnt be more proud of their dedication! I found out even more sadder news about the situation last night though. This has apprently been an issue there before. The problem is even with the Rescue attempting to get these dogs, the humane societys in that area at least can be very money funded and with the possibility of getting more for a purebred sheepdog, will and have in the past sold them to highest bidder knowing the Rescue was on their way to get them. I have to attest though that for our area we have a fabulous humane society who I know many of the workers personally and they work very much with Rescue organizations when they can so its not a All places are like this. But I just found out that this is not the first time this has happened in their particular area. It really breaks your heart. Statistically the turn around on these dogs who are sold for the biggest bucks is huge in comparison to the Rescue Organizations who can get them into a place that is prepared and able to care for a sheepie. But i digress it is not over yet and god bless again these rescuers who've ive been told are not above creating press on this to get that lady out of there safetly and to expert hands.
On a good note, I did get a great phone call update about a pomeranian i took in a couple weeks ago who was in a bad situation. She is in a great home now and loving life with her 2 other pomeranian friends. Laura is her new mommy now and i'm going to do a follow up visit sunday night. That has nothing to do with sheepie's but hey I can't disciminate with any dog in need. Plus my four year old loves to help the animals with me so its a win win.
Okay for anyone interested to know. Its with great excitment that i finally got to get Sashie yesterday and bring her home. There were a couple hick-ups in the picking up of her and a lot of help from some wonderful OES rescue's and volunteer members. She is so freakin cute!! Probably the sweetest i've ever met. (I'm not just saying that cause she's mine LOL) But so far she is responding best to me in the way of commands. She is an absolutely sweetheart to the rest of the family too. Bruno seems very excited to have a girlfriend and being the gentlmen he is offered up his dog house too her so she could get some rest. He does not sleep in it except for the occasional afternoon nap or when he want a rest from running around back for a minute. I guess it gives him solace and he's very protective of it, so we were all quite suprised to see him showing it to her. We are taking her to the vet this afternoon to have her thoroughly checked out but so far so good. She seems very happy and warm spirited. She is also about 20 pounds at least too heavy so me and Bruno are trying to run her around but she doesnt make it quite as long as us...haha. I love that she stop in mid jog and plops on the ground..lol. She looks well for lake of better term very sheepish at us when she does stop as if she's saying i'm sorry i tried. I cant wait to take her up the road this summer as we live in the mountains and get her some real excersise. I'm shooting myself now for not having batteries for my camera, going to get some today so I can show everyone my new dynamic duo! Will post tomorrow but yay..it was a happy ending!!
I am happy to hear that everything worked out. Good luck with the newbe and I will look forward to your pics.
Congratulations!!!! THANK YOU for rescuing a sheepie in need, and for being so persistent about it!

I'm a little concerned about a doggie that can't keep up with you guys. I'm glad you're taking her for her first trip to your vet!
Welcome, glad you were finally able to rescue an oes :)
I know i'm was concerned too but did find out that she has a slight upper respitory cold that Vet is going to get her some medication for. He said not too worry about that and we'll get her on a healthy diet and excersise. But he's sure the cold, and lack of steady exercise for awhile now, plus the 4 hour transport yesterday has all contributed in making her a very tired girl. So we did well after that in keeping the 2 dogs apart and letting her get some rest, but both are going to vet today so we will all work together to get her up and moving and healthy again.
she sounds like a sweety please we all want to see pics and updates.. and welcome from fla
Thanks for all the updates. :D
That is super that you ended up getting her, as well as to the vet quickly for treatment. No sense having her get really ill or more rundown.

Definitely need pictures!
Congratulations on your success! Glad she is home!
Oh this is such a nice story! I'm so happy for you and Sasha. I'm sure she'll have a great life now thanks to you! Welcome!!!!!
Congratulations on adopting Sasha! Your persistance paid off in spades for both of you. I'm sure your vet will recommend a sensible diet plan and moderate exercise to help get the weight off of her. Good luck and I look forward to seeing her pictures.
Ok i managed a couple pics on my phone last night. I seriously must say that i tried a LOT of pictures but alas i think she is really being a clown on me because everytime i tell her to smile she looks all cute at me and as soon as i go to hit the button she does this instant turn. So i have a lot of pictures of her behind! LOL! I swear she smiles and shakes a little back and forth as if she is laughing at me, then nudges me and gives me a lick. Yeah she knows what she's doing! hehe.. (such a goofball, we're definitely starting to see her personality come through!) But here is her sweet face and also one from the side with Vada. I'm not exactly sure how to put photos on here but heres my attempt.

<img src="http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r289/nfarris4/IMG00054.jpg" alt="Vada and Sashi"></a>

<img src="http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r289/nfarris4/IMG00058.jpg" alt="Sashi"></a>

Also Vet says she is doing great, just a cold, not in her lungs or anything and she should pick up momentum here soon, we've seen it so i think he's right. Which will be great on Vada who when i told her last night, " lets let Sashie play outside while we eat dinner" She got really upset and watery eyed. I asked, "Vada whats wrong?" she says, "i'm just worried Sashie will be scared and get lost outside without me" it was too cute! I said "well dont worry honey she's got bruno and a big fence around the whole yard, it'll be hard for her to get lost!" Sure enough she was there when we finished dinner surprise suprise...lol[/img]
oh heck, I dont think that worked on the pictures. I'll just direct link in case anyone is still curious.
