I'm Getting My First Puppy

Almost two years ago exactly, I came across a picture of an Old English Sheepdog that needed a home on a website. I didn't know what he was when I saw his picture but I fell in love with him immediately and a day later I was going through the interview process to have him made my forever dog. As soon as I scrounged up the information that he was an Old English Sheepdog, I immediately crammed as much information in my head about the breed as possible and stumbled upon this forum, which was where I got the most of my useful information.

When I adopted him, I was told he was 5 years old and in good health. He'd been cleared by a vet and everything. We opted to sign up for the obedience class that was offered at a discount along with his adoption but put off going to it for a few months. Once we were enrolled, the instructor told us it looked like he had some troubles sitting and we should have our vet look at him. Our first vet said that he was fine and probably just didn't like sitting. After a while though, when we realized he was having issues getting back up as well, we returned and saw another vet in the same office and he explained to us that he had severe hip dysplasia and prescribed some pain medication for him.

Some months later he was having a really hard time getting up off the tile floor and we returned to him and that's when we discovered that his puppy playful attitude was actually because he was senile and that while we'd been told that he was 5, in actuality he was probably closer to 11. We only got a couple more months with him before he was unable to get up, go to the bathroom on his own, or lead a comfortable life.

A year after his passing, I decided that I'd really like to have a dog again and I could really only stand to have an Old English Sheepdog. I started lurking around here, got a lot of information about puppies, and started my search for a breeder. I found a litter that was born at the perfect time for me and my family, I fell in love with a puppy, and now I'm doing the countdown for when he gets to come home.

I'm hoping that this time around I'll be able to be a little more active on the boards and I'm positive that I'll have about a bazillion pictures to share of my puppy. :D While it's not my first dog, it is my first puppy ever, so I'm excited about all these things I get to go through that I've never experienced before. :D

Aw, thanks!

I waited to post until I'd actually selected my puppy, so yep, I know. I've got a boy (which was the exact gender I wanted) and his name is Puck. He's got one blue eye and one brown eye, which I think is adorable. He's also pictured in my avatar. xD

Once he's home, I'll have tons of pictures to share. (:
Oh my Puck is such a cutie!!!
You must be going nuts till you get him. How long
do you have to wait?? No to long I hope.
AWWWwwww.... :aww: :aww:

Not too much longer, no. He'll be coming home April 10th. It's still long enough that I can get all of his supplies together but not so long that I'm absolutely dying. That happened while I was waiting to pick him. ;)
Puck is adorable!! Can't wait to see more pics--ANTICIPATION is part of the FUN! I know you will love the 'puppy' experience--they are so much fun!

Well this is the week! He turns 8 weeks old tonight and should be flying to us by the end of the week. We went shopping for a lot of the final stuff last night, like food and dishes and treats and gates and crates. I'd already bought most of the fun (squeaky!) toys a month or so back in preparation.

I feel like I've been so excited and anxious for the past, I don't know, seven weeks so now I'm trying not to get too worked up, but it's hard to contain the excitement! Luckily baseball's started up so I can share the excitement between two things, so that poor puppy isn't overwhelmed when he finally gets here.
Puck finally made it home yesterday after a long flight and ride home in the car. We've been playing with toys, trying to find his favorite. Turns out he likes his leash and my pajama pants more than anything. ;)

Isn't that always the way with kids? Buy a great gift and they want the wrapping or the box :D :D
aww puck is adorable. You're in for a lot of fun :aww: :hearts:
Congratulations!
He's adorable!!!! Awww.....the puppy stage! Have fun with it (in EVERY sense of the word)!

Hugs from Charlie's Fam! :ghug:
Thanks everyone! I'm guessing I should have got him some more chew toys. I underestimated his ability to chew everything. 8O

The first night home was as much of a nightmare as I thought it'd be, with him crying all night. My husband asked me why we were ignoring him. He's just like our baby, he says, so we should pick him up and let him in the bed and snug him, just for tonight. So I told him how that would end up the way for oh, the rest of our lives. So then he asked if maybe we shouldn't just move the whole crate up into the bed.

Last night we left a light on in the back part of our room and gave him a chew toy that he actually likes and he only cried when it was our middle of the night run out and back in, and this morning when he woke up and wanted to come play with his dad.

Amusingly enough, he just let himself out to use the bathroom too. Instead of just running around wildly like he typically does, he picked up his leash and walked himself over to the door and waited for me to let him out so he could do his business. :D

The cats are still terrified of him. One will only look at him from around corners and the other one has been hiding in cupboards where he's close enough to his food and litter box that he doesn't have to run past the ever so frightening puppy.
What a smart little boy to ask to go out. :clappurple:

It took my cat a couple of weeks to stop avoiding the new puppy like he had the plague.
