chewing gum STUCK to paw

Hi. My little Odey, who's blind, stepped in old chewing gum on a sidewalk. It wasn't there long before I found it, as I had just brushed him probably about 2 hours before. It starts in the middle of his paw and goes to the fur around his "wrist" (sorry for the human anatomical thing).
I was able to cut out as much as possible out of the fur, but it is really stuck between the pads on his paw. I scraped it with my finger, and a little did come off, but it's way in the fur in between his pads. It looks almost as if someone took an object and pushed the gum into his foot. I know that didn't happen, but to give you an idea how far in it went. Suggestions, please. Thanks.

Given another thread here on oes.org about how to get gum out of clothing, I am thinking that some warm (NOT HOT) vinegar will soften the gum and allow you to swab it out.

I hope the vinegar isn't too acidic for Odey's cute little paw, and it may smell like vinegar for a while, but most of it will wash out. Not all of it, but most.

Whatever you try, would you please come back here and let us know?
Thanks!
Hi, Ron.
Thanks for your reply. I'll give the vinegar a try. It's been a little difficult keeping Odey clean. He's still a pup, and then you add to it the blindness. Well, that equals one pretty dirty dog baby. He seems to try to wash, but misses a lot of things. I never really knew how effective dogs are at cleaning themselves. I watched them over the years, but didn't know how well they did until I watch the little blind guy try and do it.

I laughed when you said, "cute little paw". I'm new to the OES world, and from what I've seen of my other dogs over the years, Odey does not have a LITTLE paw. LOL. They are monsterous mits, and I love them. He's pretty good at waving.

Thanks so much for your advice. I'm glad I found all of you. I need a lot of advice with Odey, especially because he has special needs. You guys are all great!!!! :)
If the vinegar doesn't work you might try baby oil.

Odey is beautiful :D I have an OES that's only vision challenged... we think she see's shadows. We have to be her eyes when we take her for walks but around the house she's perfectly fine unless something is out of place.

Wondering if you can use different touches to train your baby. Even extra special dogs like Odey and Kaytee can learn basic commands as early as 8 weeks of age. We sometimes just need to be a little creative  Thanks for adopting this adorable little fella!
Hi. Thanks for the nice words about your visually-challenged dog. In regard to your question about touch training; Yes, I've started working with him. He was about 10 or 11 weeks old when we adopted him, and I started the basics with him as soon as he came home. He knows "sit" - two finger taps on the back side. He also knows "lie down" - two squeezes on his front leg. He knows "all done" - wiggly fingers to his cheeks. He knows "no" - snout squeeze. He knows "time to go out" - he can hear very high-pitched sounds, so we shake windchimes by the door. When he's outside he knows it's time to walk when I jiggle his leash. That moves his collar, and he will start to walk.

He also, like yours does, does very well inside. Steps are fun to watch sometimes, as he leaps off the landing like he's superman. I guess he figures it's easier to jump than try to figure out where the landing ends.

I think it's great you gave your little furbaby a good home, too. I was really concerned about how hard it may be to help him, but I'm finding he's just as eager to learn as any other dog. I bet you probably know that, too.

Thanks for your post. I'm glad to be meeting new people. Everyone here seems so very nice. Have a great day!

Agree, but rinse, rinse and then rinse some more.
And rinse more.

Chewie had some gunk that needed solvents to get it off his feet and hocks. Needing to preserve showcoat, trimming it off wasn't an option.
I evidently missed a spot between 2 toes on his right rear foot and ended up with a mild chemical burn. He licked it to the point of an oozing infection requiring oral and topical ABX.

Vet wanted to trim the foot hair, but knowing I wouldn't - he just had to bring it up! 8)
