Who is an OESCA member?

If you are an OESCA member, can you reply to this thread? I am working on the yearbook and want to look at member's photos for possible use in the book. Don't want to miss any great shots because I couldn't put your forum name with your real name! Also, if I find a picture that I like and may want to use, I will contact you privately. I'm looking for candids at this point.
I am also looking for the show photos for specialty winners and placements. If your dogs fit the bill (2006-2008) please let me know what photos you have. Send info via PM here at the forum or to 37maxwell@gmail.com. (My Comcast addresses are corrupted and being worked on at the moment!)

Also, still looking for artwork for the yearbook. Must be a member to contribute!

Also, can everyone tell me what they use the yearbooks for? For instance, do you use them for pedigrees and pictures or stats or as historical reference? I have the book laid out in what seems like a useful and historical progression but I haven't been in this too long....Just want to make sure that what I think is what some of the "old-timers" are thinking. (I was going through old yearbooks and found that Suzi's sire's breeder has been showing dogs longer than I've been alive! I can't wait to see her at the end of the month!!! )

Thanks everybody!!!
Mandy

I've got a lot more pictures than I actually post. When you say candid, do you just mean unposed?

All of the above, but especially pedigrees and to a lesser extent stats.

I've found that I like the layout where the pedigrees are all in the back, alphabetically, for ease of finding them the best. Color me funny, but I also prefer the stats to be together for all years. Some have done a year by year by year collection, but me I'm just as happy looking at three pages (or whatever) of obedience etc stats covering all of the time period layed out sequentially but together. Of course, that may just be further proof that I'm odd, but you asked, so...

Release of 2008 performance stats has been pushed back to this month. Makes me crazy. It's a lot of work for them, so I am sympathetic, but having checked and checked all February in great anticipation, now they're saying March and I'm getting a wee bit nervous about it.

Kristine
LeAnne and I are both members.
However, we are too "new" to have input on a yearbook, as we are yet to see/get one. 8)

My pictures however, are fair game.
Mandy, been one for over 30 years now......
I have lots of pictures but you need to contact me for what you might want/need. mine all went down with the website...... :?

I too like the pedigrees in the back alphabetically......... and i like little bits of historical info put into the yb too.

I have some great panorama pictures of an old New England Specialty where there were 20 dogs at least lined up in the class. Other things like this too in my files.

You should contact Diane Mckee for some historical pictures...
Mandy, Don't forget that I'm getting some random images from members too via email. I've received one ad already too. Also, you may have email size restrictions on your gmail account. I can handle emails up to like 50mb, in case people's emails get bounced due to size limitations.
Well I am a member but don't have much to add :D
Just a reminder, here's where you can find the info to place yearbook ads and guidelines for photo/artwork submissions. $50 OFF Promotion on all Ads ends 4/30! http://www.oldenglishsheepdogclubofamer ... k2008.html

New members, the book is really nice. It's hardbound and in B&W & color.
Hallaleula!! I have until APRIL 30th to try to come up with an ad@ I've had so much on my mind this past 2 weeks.......
Back diagnostic tests yesterday, not looking forward to the future decisions........... All the OES BS going on...........
at least i have time for this@ BLESSYOU
If no one poses an objection, I should be a member in a few months. I've submitted my forms and should be on the next list published in the Times. :)

I love the oesca's yearbook, beautifully done. Deb was so amazing to send me the 2002-2005 one, I look through it often, use it as a coffee table book

WAAAAH! I can't buy a page to make people aware of the forum.

My vet beat you to it and unloaded two huge stacks of old OETs that she had inherited on me a couple of months ago. Actually, she was doing me a favor. They were from before I joined the club so ones I didn't have and I use them for pedigree research, plus I love the historical aspect of going through them.

Kerry - I've also found old year books at the nationals. Those are great keepsakes as well.

Just make Mandy hire a trailer to trek them all up to Rochester so you can thumb through them and see what you want...

Naw - I'm helping you unload them!!! I'm serious. Bring bunches and have a big sale. Proceeds to benefit health and research!!

Or, OK, maybe just cover OESCA's costs

Speaking of the '10 national, we're thinking of offering agility and maybe rally fun matches in addition to the respective trials. Unfortunately AFTER the trial, if so, so no chance to practice beforehand, but opportunity to correct for any mistakes after the fact.

I believe Kerry's the one who suggested it must be followed by the margaritas and mojitos I owe her for having volunteered her to work herding (you, of course, have no experience as to what it feels like to have people volunteer you on your behalf  )

I'm scheduling those for post agility, knowing Sybil and all...Busy night. Bring the old OETs, wait till we're good and toasted and take your revenge by selling them to people too toasted to realize they can't actually fit 300 old OETs in their van for the return trip without having to tie a dog to the roof.

Oh, SYBIL!!!

Still no 08 rankings. Tick-tock, tick-tock.

Kristine 8)
Or....
perhaps Mandy could let us know how we can order, pay for have mailed or pick up on our way to sheepiepaloozza some issues and she gets the added bonus of having some room in her garage between now and the 2010 nationals.

and BTW - poor Sybil.

Why not?
I am told that ads are not accepted for this book, it is a showcase for the dogs.

Have there been ads in previous editions?

No.

The yearbook really is strictly about the dogs. Now, there's nothing to say you couldn't buy a page (or more) as a tribute to your sheepdog and say something like "for more information on his great accomplishments see www.oes.org. " 8)

Are there any OESCA members near you? If so, ask them to lend you an old year book, any one, and you'll quickly see why it's not the right place for a flat out ad.

On the other hand, I don't think there's anything to stop you from taking out an ad in the OET.

We were told that since the yearbook is a book for OESCA members, we are only allowed to sell space to the membership.

Time to join RON!!!
Or maybe I could pay others who were placing ads as long as they included "Another responsible breeder sponsored in part by the OES forum at www.oes.org" in a consistent type font at the bottom of their page...

Cute, but the yearbook isn't strictly for breeders, which makes sense because neither is OESCA. So you'll find "ads" dedicated to the memory of such and such a dog, celebrations of performance dogs' accomplishments ("first OES to earn an OTCH, first OES with a breed championship to earn an OTCH, or even just Ch so and so earned these titles the past two years, and did so with a high in trial or by placing first each time or whatever), thank yous to breeders for trusting the person with a certain dog, and the usual so and so won this or that big conformation event, or his or her get went on to do great things and many thanks to the people who helped make this possible.

Think of it more as a pretty printed collection of brags with beautiful pictures, pretty artwork and some valuable information thrown in for good measure. (reviews of specialties, statistics and pedigrees mainly).

I absolutely love taking the ones I have out and paging through them. So many memories, people as well as dogs.

I don't think there's anything to prevent an OESCA member from taking out a four page spread celebrating their rescue dog's accomplishments (well, except expense) if say the dog turned out to be an excellent herding dog or obedience dog or whatever. It's a celebration and commemoration of the breed's accomplishments during a certain time period, so it has more historical than advertising value by far. They really are wonderful keepsakes.

Thanks Mandy and Deb both for doing this. It's a tremendous amount of work.

Kristine
To obtain old yearbooks or OETs drop me a line at 37maxwell@gmail.com and let me know what you want.
Payment is made to karen burdash, her info is on the OESCA site.
Yearbooks are on sale for $20. OETs are $3. Deals are made for bulk orders!

I will have some items with me at pittsburgh this weekend. If you have a special request, let me know!

Great! There ought to be a mention of all the wonderful online communities *cough* Especially if an online community were to sponsor such an article? :D :D :D

Persistent, aren't you?

As wonderful as the forum is, it has yet to sire a dog or earn an AKC title, and so far it has never won a national speciality or produced enough breed champions to warrant a register of merit, so you won't find mention of it in the pedigrees or statistics sections.

There really aren't articles. There are articles and columns and editorials and ads in the quarterly OET. In fact, I write one of the columns when I have things to write about. Completely separate from the year book.

You can always try bribing Mandy to look the other way and letting things slip in like: "Maureen Clark, who does not spend much time online so doesn't know about www.oes.org - on the plus side she actually has time to train her dogs! - handled Brightcut Lewis & Clark UD RAE2 (plus some other titles I forget) to the first OES RAE in 200X and followed that up by becoming the first RAE2 in the breed in 200X".

But somehow I don't think that's what you had in mind 8)

I think we need to take up a collection and buy a year book and send it to Ron so he knows we're not just making this up. Anyone have a favorite they'd like to recommend?

Kristine

Did I mention that you should join OESCA?
When is Rochester?
Maxmm wrote:

Marilyn's going to check on the exact dates but we both seem to recall mid-September. 2010 of course.

Agility will be indoors, on rubber matting as I recall, as it's being held at a training center. Rally and obedience the same I think, which will be really nice for the more advanced dogs as I really hate jumping them on thin matting over concrete.

Are you going to California? Performance will all be outside, but at a lovely venue (chair actually sent a picture to the performance list, very nice of her) and fully baby-gated.   Herding is separate and, yes, they are offering it and it sounds like it's going to be dynamite.

Dates for the 2010 national are Sept. 19th thru the 25th. The actual dates for the perfomance events weren't really clear to me in the communication but they seemed to be days of the week BEFORE the conformation judging. I got the date information from Madeline Erickson who is on the 2010 national committee. They will announce the actual schedule in plenty of time for those of you who can only get away for a few days.
Once again, the National is on my birthday! Let the cake baking commence! :bdcake:

Now, as for the pic of your poodle's butt. Oh, I'm sorry, you mean Guinness in his poodle clip? OK, so we won't attach THAT pic of him to the application but rather one of him in the rescue parade at the national and another of you working agility at same...

If that's not membership material, I don't know what is.

You forgot to mention when your birthday is. Lord knows it must be within 12 months of a national...

If we had known, I could have printed it all out, filled out my sponsorship page, had Sunny bring the entire membership application to the Pittsburgh specialty, have you fill your part out, someone rushes down to Maryland to have Cindy fill it out, rushes it back to Pittsburgh so Sunny can drive it to the house of the OESCA secretary and HAND DELIVER it.

Evidently this is what it will take to get her to join! When's the next Eastern specialty?

Or she can just come and hang out with at specialties ANYWAY as non-members -- if they choose to REMAIN non-members, despite INVITATIONS to join -- are most certainly also welcome at specialties AND mass birthday bashes

What kind of hazing is involved in the initiation process?

Who gets to vote on the application?
Depends on who you are. Each perspective member's hazing is tailored to their individual needs.

Each person who applies has their name and who their sponsors are published in the OET, just in case a member has info on how bad the person is and they can say why they shouldn't be given membership. Then the board votes on each person's application.
I will join :D only if hazing involves lots of sheepdog kisses and wine. Let me get un crazy and I will fill out application. Do I list you guys as sponsors????? Maybe I better have another cup of coffee and look for the application Where the hecky durn is it?? Do they let crazy people join??

well I am a member so I guess tha answer is yes.

application:

I faxed pages to my sponsors and they faxed or emailed them back and then I sent the entire packet in. the sponsors have actual questions to answer in the packet.

They let me join. Enough said. 8)

Application can be found at http://www.oldenglishsheepdogclubofamer ... cation.htm

(use the PDF version)

You need to fill out your section, and each sponsor needs to fill out their section (i.e. Mandy can fill out Sponsor 1 and I can fill out Sponsor 2). You also need to sign the code of ethics on the bottom and include that as part of your application.

Hazing is at Sponsor 1's discretion.
