what should i ask for?

my Nanna and grandad are coming to visit me for 16 days next monday from the uk, i've told them that them both being in their mid to late 70's fly from the uk to visist me is enough gift but my grandad insists i'm to have something.

as you know i'm 22 weeks pregnant with our second little boy

i had isaac nearly 4 years ago in the uk so not being able to bring my baby stuff with me except my pram/stroller as isaac was still using it then, i gave it all to my best friend who had just had a little boy.

now you may think i would need every thing but a friend here is seperating from the hubby and moving back to the uk so she has given me a full furnature set, a brand new never use car seat, a full bedding set ( and my frined from the uk is sending me back th one i had for isaac. ) and hospita lgrade breast pump ( i just need to go to target ot get a few replacement bits) and a moses basket with rocking stand as well.

my MIL has a gym and play station and changing mat and high chair she bought for when we visited from the uk.

i picked up a brandnew fisher price papisan chair at a yard sale for $20 and a baby sling for $20 in the sales. and my mum has already got most of the clothing basic for me and i've picked up a few outfits in the sale.

i really can't think of anything i need or even want. i've made loads of bit like wash clothes and bibs and shoes on my sewing machine and i also have loads of reusable nappies from isaac ( that i never really used as i couldn't manage to work and wash at the same time but i don't work any more)

i don't want them to fell like i'm rejecting the fact that they want to buy me something so any suggestions of things you found usefull would be great.

sorry for the rambling. but my grandad is insisting and the things that were stolen in the break in are to expensive to ask for so i've no idea.

thank you for reading

I always think a nice gift for a new baby is a feeding dish/bowl? My two girls both had lovely ones with Beatrix Potter pictures on them that we used every day. Its a great practical thing to use to remind you of who bought them and a nice keepsake too!
Did I miss a diaper bag for mobil changes?
Our in laws wanted to buy a playground set for the backyard. Something for the summer maybe (swimming pool, play stuff), or even a wagon/jogging stroller? Because once you have more than one ...knowing you have everything (for the most part) for the kid already, it was all about more diapers and toys they can both enjoy (but mostly for older kid). Heck, a good gift for your older kid so he doesn't feel left out is a good idea.

Or you can ask them for a giftcard to your favorite store, so you can buy as you need.
I suggest something small like a nice children/baby cutlery set maybe with chidren/baby crockery(although the y might grow out of the crockery set the cutlery will always get used...my daughter just turned 17 and she still uses her silver cutlery with a princess on them).
Will you be staying in the US forever? A "529 Plan" for the children's educations, or the equivalent from across the pond?
I was going to suggest that as well but chose not to. We received that as a gift and thought it was such a clever idea.
:?: Why'd you choose not to suggest it then? :D
Because we received it as a gift, but as I typed it, I backed up b/c I'm not sure I'D be brave enough to "ASK" for it. Then again, I'd ask my mom ...just not the in-laws.
How about a very nice photo of the two of them to keep in the baby's room or memory book? I've had the same problem, a few people insisting they want to get Riley something, but I don't want anyone to spend the money, no one can really afford it right now. I didn't even let anyone throw a shower. We are better off right now than most of the family, and this is our second baby, whereas others in the family are having a baby as well, and they need the help more than we do. Mostly everyone has made or bought outfits because they can't help themselves......
i forgot a diaper bag coz i think in four year i forgotten what a regular purse is lol.

i have about 4 diaper bag in differnet colours, and cuttlery is lovely but when i organise a christening in the uk for him thats what people tend to buy. Isaac got 3 complete sets of plate, bowl, cup and matching money boxes. (we would like them both the be christen church of england we have yet to find something simular over here)

you see my dilema i really have no need for anything.

thank you for all the suggestion i will talk them over wit hmy mum over the computer befroe my nanna arrives.

I know it doesn't sound like much, but I bought a couple swaddling blankets as a gift and I still get thank yous from the Mom. There are several manufacturers like Snoozie and Miracle Blanket.
I was going to say Miracle Blankets too. :) I also loved my wipe warmer and shopping cart cover.

Babies R Us has a neat list of shopping guides:

Blanket sounds nice.

How about a gift certificate to a nice photography studio for baby pictures?
I bought my daughter a swaddlekeeper online...she loved it and so did the baby...she got an extender and used it until 6 months:

The baby seemed to love it and went to sleep easier with it on than without it. Nurses designed it and you can get it in so many designs...we loved the fleece ones.
photos would be lovely but hubby has his photos in a local gallery and won't let me use photo studios as he has most of the gear anyway.

and they did not steal his big camera in the break in thank god!!!

i think i'm going to look in to the blankets they sound great

thank you all
